I booked a 3 night/$1313 USD stay under a Canadian Mastercard. At check-in I requested my US Visa card be used and reconfirmed this when I checked out. The clerk said the invoice would be emailed. 10 days later....no invoice and discovered my Mastercard had been charged in error! I called the hotel to fix this and Peter charged my Visa and said it would take a few days for the credit on my Mastercard. I requested a courtesy compensation and he reversed the $60. destination charge. 4 days later, my M/C was credited, but during the 2 weeks, the CAD/USA exchange rate changed and the difference is $41. more. After 2 calls to the Customer Service number I finally got an invoice, but Peter refused to do anything further. The hotel clerk made the 2 mistakes...not me! So much aggravation, time and extra expense through no fault of mine. I've never had this problem with a hotel. Go somewhere else like Hampton and save yourself this misery. Oh...the toilet handle was broken and the night side lamp didn't work either.

Hotel's Favourite
Great location. Easy access to Red Line on L. Close to great restaurants. Friendly staff. Seems to be a bit light on amenities that one would expect at a hotel of this class (likely due to new acquisition of hotel and Covid). Be sure to ask for a coffee maker and extra towels. Bed and sheets very comfortable. Room temperature easily adjustable and comfortable. Nice to have a mini fridge to save deep dish pizza for the morning! On site restaurant and bar was closed as of mid July 2021. Room was great for a family of 3. As with any downtown area of a major city, lots of homeless nearby. We never felt unsafe or uncomfortable. We will definitely stay again the next time we stay in downtown Chicago!

Service was absolutely terrible. Hotel room was not cleaned well. Many services not available. Not ready to host wedding parties. We were the bride and groom and brought in 25+ hotel rooms. We did not feel special or even acknowledged. Our room was never even cleaned for our wedding night even though prior to staying they asked what time we would Like our room cleaned. Our phone never worked so we could never call for assistance to collect garage bags that sat outside our room for days or even bring more towels. We told them the phone was broken but nothing was ever done. We spent $600 + on items in our hotel welcome bags that were suppose to be delivered to our guest but never were. We brought it up to the hotel staff the first night guest didn’t receive their guest bags and still the next day when more guests arrived they did not receive their welcome bag. Our guest were suppose to check in at 3PM the day of the wedding(normal check in time no special treatment) but guest were waiting until 4:30-5 to get into their rooms. We will never ever stay at a Royal Sonesta again. We travel a lot for work and holiday and have received better service at a 2 star hotel. I urge you if you are thinking of having your wedding hotel room block here DONT! The hotel was the only problem we encountered our wedding weekend and our guest were very upset. I wish we would have had our block elsewhere.

It’s a bit tired and certainly not a 4 star hotel. Think shower curtain, big bottle bathroom toiletries and worn carpet and you get the idea. Location is ok, ish but it’s in an area that just gets a bit seedy, one block away from more upmarket parts. But here is the real surprise, came back to my room at 5.15 to see bed was not made and room not cleaned ( 2 day stay), I didn’t want cleaning staff bursting in as I was getting ready for dinner so I phoned reception to ask what time rooms were cleaned to be told that this was a union hotel and rooms were only cleaned after a 3 day stay! First time I have encountered that one and guess I don’t mind making my own bed but just not what I expected. Would not stay here again, there are better hotels for the same or less money

Alexander will stay in our heart as a plus to enjoy our trip. Professional, nice, he gave us excellent tips to make our trip to Chicago better. He is by himself a reason to stay in this hotel. I want to thank Alexander so much for taking care of us so perfectly.

Great area and hotel room was nice and clean. The front desk staff (Alexander) was very welcoming and friendly. He made us feel comfortable and made great recommendations in where to eat around the area. Will definitely go back here again!

Not Handicap accessible at all even though offer higher rate rooms stating they are. Over priced room for what you get. Only one elevator working. Parking garage three blocks away. Pictures are deceiving.

I used to stay here frequently when it was a Kimpton hotel and it was great. Thoughtful service, great perks, spacious rooms, and literally the best bathtub in the city (in the Spa rooms and suites only), stocked mini bar and snacks, mini fridge and coffee maker in every room, etc. Unfortunately the change in ownership seems to have made a tremendously negative impact. Some of my least favorite features: -Only one elevator was in service, so lines and wait were really long. -The restaurant is closed so there is no in-room or onsite dining, and they didn't share that info until we arrived even though based on other reviews it doesn't look like a new thing. -The mini-fridge was broken -No coffee maker in the room (such a weird amenity to skip!) -Outdated decor and furniture. I have been coming here for like 13 years and the rooms look identical to the first time I stayed. -The whole hotel smells kind of musty now? I think they're not doing any housekeeping during stays, which is pretty weird. -The labels on all the phones have been removed so it's impossible to call the front desk to get, you know, a coffee maker...or a towel...or literally anything. Really too bad that it's lost what used to make it such a fun stay. I miss Kimpton :(

Staff was friendly and responsive. But check in took 45 minutes with only a moderate line (4 Parties). Hotel restaurant down for renovation - no big deal. Several broken items in room - only outlet in bathroom, bathroom vent fan, shower/bath fixture (stuck on shower only), phone handset and no instructions at all on phone (like what to press for housekeeping…front desk). Only 1 elevator was working all 3 days - serving all 17 floors - so long wait sometimes for that. Room was otherwise comfortable. Nicely equipped fitt mess center. Pool was clean and fun. No housekeeping services provided but not mentioned - maybe a COVID thing. That didn’t bother me. They brought up fresh towels and soap and whatever upon request. Oh - free but horrible internet. Even the premium version was bad and not accessible on my apple devices at all during evening hours (peak times). Admittedly I’m from San Francisco and tech spoiled - absolutely expect fast and consistent internet at 4 star or better hotels - even if not free.
