My husband and I had to make a last minute trip to Chicago during the Covid Pandemic. Our son was at Northwestern Medical center and we needed a location nearby to the hospital. This hotel is very close to the hospital and walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops etc. We asked for an upgraded room with city view, as husband is top tier Marriott. Small but nice room on 19th floor. Science theme is kind of cool, but weird bathroom design with a curtain to pull around glass shower for privacy. Nice bathroom amenities. Keurig coffee pot in room, also a small fridge. No maid service due to pandemic which was fine with us, they said if we needed anything just ask at desk. Desk attendants wore masks, and there was hand sanitizer placed at elevator. Almost every time we came downstairs, someone was cleaning the desk area and high touch surfaces like credit card reader. Robots were available for deliveries to rooms but we did not use the service. Hotel restaurant was still closed but plenty of other places with outdoor seating in area or for takeout. Nando peri peri chicken right across street was very good. Would stay here again if need be.

This is a worthwhile hotel for your stay in Chicago, for a number of reasons.

First, the central location is excellent. The Magnificent Mile (including the very worthwhile Starbucks Reserve Roastery) are just a few blocks away. In the other direction, you're only a few blocks from the lakefront and Navy Pier. All of this is interesting to walk around and great for dog walks (more on that later).

Second, the themed decor for the hotel and rooms are interesting and unique. The science-y theme is not kitschy or overbearing. I'd say the rooms are actually more like a light steampunk theme. The robot butlers are at least interesting to watch and navigate around, although we didn't order anything from them.

Third, the dog policy is great. Unlike many other Marriott hotels, this hotel doesn't charge a dog fee. The quality of the hotel and lack of dog fees puts this hotel right up there with Kimptons for stays with dogs, in my opinion.

For the bones of the hotel, the rooms themselves look really nice. They are small, but well designed with an interesting glass walled shower that you can close off with a curtain. There are not too many rooms per floor, which is nice because it cuts down on the noise in the hallway. The gym is a good size and has some interesting equipment (bring your boxing gloves!) not usually found in hotel gyms. During the pandemic there is no in-room fridge, but they were able to bring us a mini-fridge when we asked. The restaurant was pretty good, but with a small brunch menu. One potential downside is that the parking is pretty expensive (you are right downtown).

Just spent a week here for a family Chicago vacation. The rooms were really nice. Good size rooms. Beds were really comfortable. Our kids loved the unique touches around the hotel from the iPhone gramophone speaker in the rooms to the robots that bring stuff to your rooms. My little son loved Cleo/Leo and made us order way too many extra towels and water to see the robot come up to our room.

The staff was friendly and helpful. Really a great and unique place to stay in Chicago. I would highly recommend it.

I really liked the hotel and enjoyed my stay there. I was traveling during the Coronavirus Pandemic, so the hotel was pretty empty, and all its facilities were closed. The hotel’s location is great! I personally find it perfectly located. It is a few blocks away from Lake Michigan (& Navy Pier), very close to the Gold Coast & Old Town areas (lovely areas of Chicago), and also walkable to the Loop/Millennium Park. There are a lot of restaurants and shops around. Because the hotel was empty, I was allowed to check-in earlier, at 11 a.m. Also I requested a room with the best city view the hotel has, and I got a room (#1901) on the 19th floor with the lovely view of Trump Tower. My room was small, but I felt great staying there. It was completely remodeled and ideally clean. I really liked its design. My Queen Size Bed was comfortable. The bathroom was not really separate. The shower stall was part of the room, only the actual toilet was separated by a door. I personally liked this design. It felt very modern. The bathroom amenities were of a high quality and smelled nice. For 5 days that I stayed in my room, I never had room service. However, when I called to the front desk and asked for something, they brought that thing to me pretty fast. I payed $85 per night for my room, and I believe it was an amazing deal! I would totally stay in this hotel again when I come back to Chicago, and I recommend it for a stay!

My husband and I stayed yesterday evening and I have to say that this hotel has it all! The entire hotel is beautifully themed, tastefully decorated, and no attention to detail was missed including in regards to cleanliness and COVID precautions. We were greeted by an absolutely amazing and professional front desk host named Jason whom happened to be the supervisor. He was proud of the hotel and its features and left none of our questions unanswered. He was extremely polite and made us feel very welcomed! They also have robot employees and one of them named Chloe delivered water to our room, even the robot was friendly and exciting. The hotel and room was extremely technically advanced, comfortable, clean, and the room came with a small package of sanitizing wipes. If you are ever looking for a boutique hotel to stay in while in Chicago I highly recommend this one. I’ve stayed at quite a few and so far none of them can remotely compare to EMC2 especially in regards to service. My husband and I will definitely stay here again.

For a one night stay in the middle of the Corona Lockdown, we booked the EMC2 Hotel in Chicago. The Service was very limited - for example even the booked breakfast wasn't offered, the terrace wasn't open and we had to wait quite some time till the room was ready.

But the hotel is very beautifuled designed, the rooms are very well concepted and everything was very clean. Especially the glass shower in the middle of the room is an absolut highlight.
The cityview is breathtaking and the location is really in the middle of the city. Beautiful to walk around and experience the city.

Overall - a nice stay, a beautiful hotel and for the service limitation is hopefully not the hotel managment responsible, just a global virus. :-)

If you are visiting Chicago downtown, the EMC2 is your hotel!
We stayed on the 21st floor in a King Room and were pleased with our visit. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The rooms were tidy and clean. If you need towels, tissues or anything else, you can simply ask Alexa (amazon echo dot in each room). Cleo and Leo, which are the 2 service robots, will bring you anything you ordered through Alexa directly to your door (really enjoyed this feature). They also have 3 smart elevators that will transport you to your floor swiftly. The gym is 24/7 open and has a nice size, and includes typical cardio and strength exercise equipment.

My better half and I made a trip out to Chicago over xmas to visit her grandmother. We stayed at a Comfort Inn in Joliet for the first couple of days, and hung out in Chicago proper for the next two.

Honestly, the Comfort Inn was a better value. Obviously with hotels in the middle of the city you're paying a premium for location. I don't mind that at all.

I do, however, mind paying a premium for an objectively worse room. The rooms here are GORGEOUS, but the controls are finicky as hell, there's no minifridge in the room, you have to sign up for some BS to use the wifi. The restaurant is really good, but the shower was malfunctioning when we first arrived.

All the way around we didn't have a BAD time per se, but I can't really say I recommend staying here for more than a single night. It's basically all gimmicks, no substance.

We have stayed at EMC2 3 times in the last year and absolutely loved it each time!
We would go as far as saying that it’s been the best city hotel we’ve stayed at in recent memory and would also add it to our top 10 list.

EMC2 is close to everything but away from the noise too in downtown Chicago’s core. We found EMC2 to be well located to allow us easy access to the neighbourhoods we wanted to visit. We highly recommend checking out Sawada Coffee.

EMC2 is such a treat for hotel design aficionados and was designed with the intent of hiding things in plain sight for your discovery. If you are sharing a room with someone, you might want to be well acquainted as the shower and vanity area are not very private but the shower itself encased in glass is unique and the shower head has good water pressure. We definitely noticed how high quality the bedding and linens were after staying at a Westin prior; you will sleep very well here and be comfortable in the plush robe provided.

We also appreciate Leo and Cleo, the hotel’s robots that deliver things to your room when you call the front desk. This fits into the quirky but refined style of the hotel.

Breakfast is included for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum and above and we do not agree with reviews that give the breakfast negative reviews; we found the service and the quality/quantity of the food to be quite high. We’ve tried the avocado toast, the breakfast sandwich, and the french toast and everything has been great. We also give them bonus points for making it very clear what is included and what is not compared to other hotels. We also never got her name but one of the servers there has been the best we've ever encountered at a hotel restaurant (and many other dining establishments).

We hope to visit again one day when we can travel to Chicago! We visited pre-COVID so we cannot comment on how the hotel is now.

We really enjoyed our stay, the room was quiet with unique modern decorations and the shower soaps smell so good! The walk in shower is so cool.

The staff was what really made our visit, especially Aubrey! Tiara and Luis at reception also gave us exceptional service. We're from Chicago so we don't usually use hotels downtown but I highly recommend EMC2 and will be booking with them in the future!

Valet is not free, when I was there just a week ago Valet was $65 per day. I don’t think tipping is required but I tipped approx $5 each time I need to remove my car which wasn’t but twice because almost everything was walking distance. Next trip I will be sure to use a Uber instead since most rides for the few rides that we did have to take wouldve been less than $10.

I know you can get delivery. Don't know about a specifc restuarant. As to relaxing, make sure your room is large enough. Ours was small with only one chair so dinnig in, which we did once, was a challange.

Yes, the hotel is in a busy, affluent neighborhood called Streeterville. Google "Streeterville day spas" and you'll see lots of results.
