It doesn’t get more Chicago than this 1893 icon of old-world design and good cheer. Originally home to an elite men’s club, the Chicago Athletic Association hotel building is an architectural gem dating back to 1893. Converted to a boutique hotel and urban playground of the same name in 2015, the property sports 240 guest rooms, seven bars & restaurants, the city's first Topgolf Swing Suite, and a downtown location central to Millennium Park, Lake Michigan, The Loop, and more. The Chicago Athletic Association hotel offers an artfully-restored historic stay along with some of the city’s most-lauded dining and drinking outlets. This hotel has received the 2022 Tripadvisor's Travelers Choice Award for consistently earning great reviews and also ranks within the 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.

Great food, drinks, and ambience. Wheelchair accessible and excellent service by the staff. All were friendly, and tried to anticipate the needs of the guests. Has multiple choices for food, coffee and restaurants inside and adjoining the hotel of various price points for every guest budget. The speak easy was awesome! I was surprised just how much fun I had during my stay.

Treated myself to a stay here to visit friends before I had to move to a different hotel for a work meeting, and I honestly wish I hadn't blown my points on this one. The hotel is nice enough, the staff is absolutely amazing, from the folks at the check in desk to the bar tenders to the cleaning ladies I met in the hall, and the food I had in the game room and the drinks I had at Cindy's were great. But the room itself was bijou as all get out, and I guess the climate control was broken because I could not get the temperature to not slow-cook me to death. Maybe it's a matter of "you get what you pay for", but the next time I have to stay in Chicago, I will simply stay somewhere less in the mix but with a bigger room and better AC.

Good morning, 11ko11! Thank you for choosing the Chicago Athletic Association for your recent visit. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. Unfortunately, at this time we do not have climate control due to the age of the building and it running on a 2-pipe system. I truly apologize for any discomfort you may have experienced while staying with us because of this issue. I am happy to share that this project is currently in the works, and we will be having climate control air/heating all year around by the end of this year. I completely understand your frustration, but I hope this news will encourage you to join us as a hotel guest once more to truly "wow" your next stay. I am glad to hear that you got to enjoy our outlets on property. We do have a wonderful team here and we are very lucky to share all that we have with the public. If there is anything you may need, please feel free to contact the hotel directly. Sincerely, Kylie

In booking this room, it indicated that four people can sleep within this room, with two double beds. Upon check in, the bed could not accommodate 2 adults, only one adult per bed.  I find this to be misleading in your booking details, and presented a problem for the three of us. We called to ask for a rollaway and were told this was against fire code policy for the room we were in. After trying to make this work and being unable to, we finally went in person & spoke to the evening front desk manager, voicing our concerns. She was kind enough to switch rooms for us, which allowed the space for a rollaway bed. However, on the first night, we were given an air mattress, which we discovered had a leak in it during the night. The next morning, on our second day, I called the front desk and told them that the air mattress was faulty and they ended up bringing in a rollaway bed. This hotel was very good at coming up with options to fix problems, but for the amount this room cost, it was unfortunate that these problems existed to begin with. The bed situation was our main concern, but I have some other concerns to also elavate. The wifi kept cutting out of the room and was not user friendly, especially with laptops as one of us was trying to work and could not get stable connection. The first room we were in had a broken mini fridge, and the air conditioning did not work properly. The second room was better in those regards, but the TV wasn’t working so they had to have an engineer come up to our room to fix it. The hotel also doesn’t have ice machines, so we requested ice from a gentleman but it was never brought to the room. All this to be said, I want to once again state the employees were very nice and really tried to help us, so this was no one’s individual fault. If anything though, this hotel looked gorgeous, but did not deliver for the price tag. If anything, it felt as though they weren’t prepared to be a hotel, as most attention was given to the Cindy’s restaurant in the building, opposed to the guests staying in the hotel.

Good morning, Julianna W! Thank you for choosing the Chicago Athletic Association for your recent stay. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. I recently attended a business meeting at the Athletic Assoc Hotel ... what an amazing venue. The history and connection to our business was powerful. The Founders Room was one of the most inspiring spaces to run a meeting. I would highly recommend this hotel and venue.

The hotel is in a beautiful historical building. I was helped by Paul, who was friendly, efficient, and gave impressive insight into the history and amenities of the building. The drawing room/lobby is excellent for writing and relaxing. The dark wood details and comfy seats there were a highlight for me. The rooftop bar also has a great view. I’d recommend a stay here, if only for the unique history and stellar location.

I would stay here again but not in a room above an event on the 8th floor. 9th floor is loud. MOD was responsive but not a good nights sleep. Lobby is great, watch out for the extra $4 non happy hour fees on food and beverage.

Good morning, S4480KFjohn! Thank you for choosing the Chicago Athletic Association for your most recent visit to the city! We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. I want to apologize for the inconvenience of the noise for your time with us. We do our absolute best to place guests as far away from the 8th floor when weddings are booked, but on some busy weekends it may not be possible. I'm sorry to hear this caused a bad night's sleep with us. This is of course not always the case, and we would be happy to welcome you back for another opportunity to extend a better night's sleep. Please feel free to reach out to the hotel directly if there is anything we may assist with. Sincerely, Kylie

We had two dozen rooms reserved for family and friends for our daughter’s wedding, and everything was exquisite, from the wedding, cocktail hour and reception venues to the rooms themselves. We could not have asked for more. The staff went above and beyond to anticipate and accommodate all our needs. Bravo, Hyatt. Bravo!

This was our 1st stay at the Chicago Athletic Association hotel. We were there for 4 nights. The hotel is beautiful with many original features and modern convinces. The best part was the location, we walked to most spots or could access the train quickly. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 is the cost compared to others within the same location.

Beautiful iconic hotel - however our experience left a little to be desired. From the start, I had called the number to get rooms added to the wedding block which was full, but I was not past the deadline. I ended up on the main Hilton number and some sleazy salesman tried to tell me that he couldn’t get me a room on the block, but that he could get me a great deal for $850 a night which was the cheapest rate. He would not give up and I eventually had to hang up on him. I got in touch with the hotel directly and they wouldn’t open up another room on the block for both nites but gave me one for one of the nights. Little did I know that if I would have just waited and booked my room online without the block rate I would have saved myself about $100. The hotel is stunning; the rooms are ok. For almost $900 for two nights I was expecting a little more. Our room had an interior view of an air duct out the windo. It’s downtown - I get it. The bathroom smelled like sewage and the fan didn’t work. There were 2 adults and 2 small kids getting ready for a wedding at Cindy’s upstairs which was nearly impossible because the bathroom smelled and we couldn’t get the humidity out of the room to get ready using the mirrors because the vent fan in the bathroom was broken. The front desk person spoke like a robot while we were checking in and seemed very apathetic. My mom (mother of the groom) woke up on Mother’s Day to her toilet bubbling like a volcano and had to trudge through sewage to get out of her room. The wedding reception was at Cindy’s was amazing. Food, drinks and service were stellar. Will continue to go back to Cindy’s, but will definitely stay elsewhere.

Good morning, jaquelyntaylor! Thank you for choosing the Chicago Athletic Association for your most recent visit to the city. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. I want to apologize for all the confusion you experienced with the Hyatt reservations teams before your arrival. I completely understand your frustration. For future references, please feel free to reach out to the hotel directly and our in-house reservations team would be more than happy to assist you. With our hotel not being built as a hotel and originally just a private club, unfortunately all of our rooms are completely different and don't all offer views. I hope we have another opportunity to welcome you, and I would be happy to ensure your next room is something better with a view for your stay. I do hope that you had the chance to bring your room issues to our attention during your stay to have them addressed. I understand how uncomfortable that may have been with 4 guests in the room and it being so humid. I apologize this was your experience. Although you did enjoy Cindy's, I hope we have another opportunity to welcome you back to truly "wow" you as a hotel guest. Please feel free to reach out to the hotel directly if there is anything we can assist you with. Sincerely, Kylie Lebron
