This is the parking area. The owner was very nice and made sure we had a spot off the street.

This was a happy surprise. We were visiting the University of Chicago, and the local Hyde Park neighborhood does not have anything approaching a flagship hotel. From what we could tell on the web, the Beadle Residences was our best bet for comfortable, multi-day accommodations.

Once we arrived, we discovered that the bedrooms (2BR unit) were spacious and well appointed. The kitchen area was very nicely outfitted. The wood floors were in immaculate shape. And the furniture was simple but well-maintained. Ditto for the bathrooms. The price was right. And the off-street parking was very welcome.

I know some visitors a few years ago had issues with room quality, but I have to believe that management has addressed those concerns -- and then some. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a pleasant, comfortable place to stay in Hyde Park.

We came to Chicago to attend the University Of Chicago. This was a fantastic location, really close to the University only a 10 minute bus ride. Close to many amenities, grocery store, Pharmacy, Starbucks and restaurants. Also very close to Downtown, only a 20 minute bus ride. The apartment suited our needs perfectly, very cosy 1 bedroom apartment. The Site Manager was fantastic, extremely helpful and made us feel very comfortable. Highly recommended.

We rented a 2 bedroom unit for 2 1/2 months while our sister was having treatment at U of C. The manager was wonderful and did everything she could to make us comfortable. We are Southerners and she even brought us a space heater so we could endure the January & February temperatures! The location is so convenient to restaurants and grocery shopping. We loved the neighborhood with the old brownstones, too. When we had a car, the covered parking was a major bonus. Our family had a wonderful experience at the Beadle.

We were a group of about 20 (some families with young children, older sibling groups, and singles) to attend a South-side Chicago wedding. We rented three (3) units at the Beadle with the goal of inexpensive lodging in an area of town where we could walk to food and easily commune as a large group in the units. We achieved this goal, though we did not meet the accommodation expectations of some.

Make no mistake-- The Beadle is not a hotel -- no front desk, no onsite food, we were given only a 3-hour check-in window on our day of arrival (2-5pm), and the rooms were not as plushly decorated as even a 2-star hotel (no upscale bed coverings, throw pillows, curtains). We could not secure enough towels for our group, so some of us ended up running around the corner and buying some. There was very little if any bath soap as well.

The Beadle is not a condo -- technically it is, but again, the furnishings were so basic that it lacked the homey feel of other condos in which I've stayed.

Our three units felt like a nicely appointed dormitory room or "my first apartment." Of the three units, our room (313) was the nicest--a relatively large (maybe 500 sq ft) 2-bedroom, 2-bath with a futon couch and two chairs in the living room area, full kitchen and a small dining table for four. One of the baths was a large en-suite with a Jacuzzi tub. The furniture was clean. However, there was a strange noise coming from between the walls in intermittent bursts all night that sounded like a small buzzer. It wasn't the refrigerator...the sound was just loud enough to wake my wife up several times both nights we stayed. I slept through it. Our party did comment that largely we slept on the beds, cots, and futons comfortably.

The worst room of the three had a gray microfiber couch that was badly stained. It gave the occupants the heebee jeebies, and while they complained about it, covering it with a sheet helped them forget about it.

All the statements above are not complaints...just stating the facts. What I liked most about the Beadle was the location -- Hyde Park is a neighborhood, so you really feel like you're staying "in" Chicago, along with the locals. A major strip of stores and restaurants, including a location of Chicago's famous stuffed pizza Giordano's, were all a short walk away. You could reach Lake Michigan walking in just over 10 minutes. We walked to our chosen site for the bachelor party, Park 52, an upscale restaurant turned club at night.

Parking was adequate with 11 off-street spaces that frequently were available in addition to on-street parking. We had no issues parking the 5 vehicles in our party. Our group's overall price -- approximately $83 per adult for the two night stay with 4-6 adults per room -- could not be matched by a Chicago hotel.

All in all, our choice of the Beadle Residences accomplished our primary goals. While some in our party would not stay there again, I would. The Beadle was fully booked with our traveling over Labor Day weekend, but you could probably just switch rooms upon check in to avoid any dirty couches on other weekends.

The proprietor graciously did not charge us for any of the kids under 12 (6 total), even though the website clearly indicates a child surcharge. We voiced our appreciation for this kind gesture.

If you can deal with what I've related in this review, The Beadle might just be an excellent choice for you.

Very good place for the price they offer. Parking facilities are great, and a good option for accommodation in the Hyde Park area. This place is a very good option for people who wish to have short term stays (up to 2 months) close to University of Chicago.

I stayed at the beadle Inn two nights.

When I arrived, prior to check into line, the office was closed and there were too many numbers on the door to go through until we finally found someone who could help us. Apparently they had gone home and left a lock box on the unit for me to use. We stood outside in the cold probably 10 to 15 minutes while we tried to find someone to let us in. Finally talking to a number, I was instructed to use the lockbox to get my key. Not the greatest welcome after a long travel day. This should have been told to us prior to our arrival.

My first impression was that it was a very nice unit. Easily accessed from the outside on the second floor from the stairs. We meet interior with separate bedroom and laundry facilities. Certainly capable of a long-term stay.

Just a few blocks away is a long Strip of eating establishments and probably every other type of shop you might want. It is a nice area and seems safe to walk during the day. Having the coffee shops and restaurants close by was a big plus.

The interior is rather stark but comfortable. The cold hard wood floors could use some rugs. My feet hurt from walking around without easily placed throw rugs that would help warm the interior. When I went to make coffee, coffee maker had not been cleaned in sometime and was filled with moldy grounds. The carpeting in the bedroom was not clean and needed to be either replaced or restretched. It was a tripping hazard.

After a long day at work, The second night, I went to use the Jacuzzi tub and filled it with hot water. It would not turn on and I could not find a switch anywhere else in the unit. This was certainly disappointing as I was ready for a nice hot and relaxing soak. There were no instructions anywhere in the unit for how to use the appliances. Most of that is pretty well-known, but some people might appreciate instructions.

The digital TV was maybe 19 inches across. Early small four units such as this or what you find in most rooms. Not a big deal except for the fact that it was planned into the wall on the opposite side of the road from the couch and rather hard to see. Nice try, but it wouldn't take much more effort to make this a really nice unit.

We reserved a 2 bedroom unit. After walking into the smoke filled office and signing our paperwork we we taken to our unit. When left in the unit, my husband and I just looked at each other and said " what are we going to do?". It was that bad. Stains all over the furniture, mold in bathroom. I didn't want to touch anything. Then, I did something I never do...I went back to the office and asked if they had another room. The staff was very cheerful and was eager to make us happy. The second room we saw was no better than the first. The third room wasn't great, but much better than the first two (mold in the bathroom, rug not vacuumed etc). Believe me if there had been another place we could've checked into, we would've been out of there. Unfortunately, there were multiple events in the city that weekend and everything was booked. Someone mentioned that these units are more like a dorm room than a condo/apartment. I agree. However, I'm not sure I've seen dorm rooms as bad as the first two units we saw.

We stayed here with my family, with small kids, in December 2010. The apartments are very well maintained, comfortable and clean. There are, e.g., dishwashers, washing machines and dryers in the apartments, which made our life with the kids much easier. The location was excellent, at least for us, as we were working at the University of Chicago and it's close their campus. It is in a nice neighborhood (Hyde Park) and there are good local services, including several grocery stores (we liked the Treasure Island). It is also easy and quick to get downtown by train. All in all, the Beadle is excellent value for money.

I don't know why a previous reviewer had problems with booking a stay with children, we had none. We did tell them in advance about our children, ages etc., and they offered a crib (which we didn't need). The stairs leading to the apartments on upper floors were a bit of a challenge with a double buggy but we managed.

If I'm allowed to nitpick a bit, they could have a bit more extensive collection of kitchen stuff (pots and pans etc.) as well as some cleaning equipment (e.g., at least a broom if not a vacuum cleaner) in the apartment. The WiFi was provided by a third-party provider and it was a bit annoying - one has to go through a slow login process every time when connecting.

We were supposed to stay for two weeks but ended up staying for more than three since I fell seriously ill and could not travel back home as intended. Traveling with small kids, this was a very difficult time for all of us. I have no idea how we would have coped without all the help from the owner, Wayne. He proved to be a very good human being, helping us in every way you could imagine and being extremely friendly and flexible at all times. I cannot thank him enough for all he did for us! (He did also promptly take care of smaller problems like the tv not working.)

Regardless of our exceptional circumstances, I would definitely recommend the Beadle Residences to anybody traveling to these parts of Chicago!

We returned some weeks ago from some days at the Beaddle Inn in Hyde Park, Chicago. Is an appartment hotel that has just started to work.
We were obliged to book here because of a Medical Meeting at Chicago and as usual all hotels were sold out. We were 4 collegues travelling from France and booked a 2 room suite.
One of us had some problems to find the hotel, from O'Hare Airport he took the metro to Chigaco downtown then some bus and he got lost in between. For the rest of us, we had no problems to get there, we decided to take a taxi because we were tired and shuttles dont go to Hyde Park (the taxi fare was around $70 US dollars). Other good option would have been to take a shuttle, bus or metro to Chicago Downtown and then take the Metra ($2,3 US single trip, $20 US 10 rides and around $ 5 US weekend fare) to 53rd Street HypePark station. The metra station is around 5 minutes away walking.
During our stay we came back to the hotel very late and did not have any problems in the neighboorhood, it was always very calm because of the University and there were security cars patrolling all the time (also at night).
They had just opened the hotel-appartment business, so we had some minor problems (one of my collegues was not able to receive a call from his wife in France but to call in town was ok. There was no "real" reception and we weer provided with a mobile phone number in case of any problem, fortunately the first day we arrived around 17:00 there was someone from the staff waiting to give us our keys).
The rooms and furniture were new, very nice decorated with a completely equiped american kitchen. Flat screen with cable TV. Hot water all the time. One of the inconveniences is that the Hotel is not very practical if you want to hang out late night near Michican Avenue and the Loop, Metra train leaves Millenium Station in Chicago in direction to Hyde Park every 45 minutes or more until 1:00 am. A trip by taxi from Chicago downtown to Hyde Park at 1:00 was around $30 US. For those wanting to relax after a long congress day is the perfect place (if you like to cook!). There is a fast food hamburger chain nearby and for breakfast a very good PancakeHouse in front of the Metra station.
There are other restaurants that we did not have the time to explore and a big book store.
For people going to Mc Cormick place (like us) check the Metra timetable because you can be waiting for almost 30 min or even more if you miss the train. It is a 10 minute trip and you get directly to Mc Cormicks.

I am sure with time they will be able to solve those minor issues, Wayne the manager is a serious and respectable guy. I had a problem checking out, my credit card was charged thrice by mistake but he reimbursed me immediately. Oh, surprise! Back home when I received my bank account statement there was a difference of more than $80 US between the 3 mistaken charges and reimbursements. I called my bank in France, they said it was a problem at the hotel, I contacted Wayne who was also surprised to hear this and even if we did not know what was the problem he accepted the responsability (it was their mistake) and reimbursed me the difference.
We definitely recommend this Hotel appartment.

This is a condo/apartment building where they've converted some of the rooms into "hotel rooms."

When they first opened it a few years back, it was really nice. But the last couple times I've stayed there, it's showing its age. Furniture is old and dingy. The microwave display didn't work. Towels were old. Mattress had seen better days. And the televisions are hilariously small - they're about the size of a laptop monitor.

It's still a lot of space for what you pay, having a washer/dryer is great, and if you're wanting to be in Hyde Park the location is perfect. But before these units were really nice - now they're just adequate.
