This review is for Barrington 139. This 3 bedroom/3 bathroom villa was ideal for our family of four (two boys 14 and 10) plus Oma. It is a pet friendly villa. We brought our 3 year old cocker spaniel. The views are fantastic and with 5 balconies, you will not have any issues enjoying the beautiful Atlantic. There is one large deck under a twisty tree. We ate our breakfast there the first morning. The trees on the property are absolutely stunning, and it makes this entire complex really special. The unit was very clean. I always worry with pet friendly accommodations because sometimes there can be a smell if people don’t crate their dogs while they’re out or bathe them before they arrive. There was absolutely no unpleasant smell in this unit. It was spotless. Some of the furniture is dated. But that’s fine. The layout is exceptional and it could be renovated anytime, but I bet it’s a money maker as it is now. We read in the guestbook that the owners purchased it in 1989 and they are from Massachusetts. I’m sure it was an excellent investment. Each master/king bedroom was very private. The 3rd bedroom was a loft with two twins. It overlooks the living room. There were adequate kitchen supplies. We made simple breakfasts and lunches and ate out for dinner. Driftwood beach is just steps away. We spent an afternoon at South Dunes beach as well. We’ve been to Jekyll so many times we cannot count, but this was our first time at VBTS. Why did we wait so long? My interaction with the staff was minimal, just at check-in, but I recall Rachael being very sweet and efficient. We shall return. Thank you for helping us achieve a quiet and reflective New Year’s holiday!

The location was convenient to the beach, shopping and dining. We stayed in a one-bedroom villa which had a queen bed/bathroom area and a kitchen/sitting area w/ a tv, dining table and a glass door that was off its tracks and didn't operate correctly. The walk to the beach/boardwalk was very convenient and the restaurant bar on the property was small and crowded. The food/drink was good. We had to eat at the bar since there were no tables available. We were traveling with another couple and their accommodations were similar, but their Condo allowed pets as they brought their dog. Both units had very old outlets that would not hold a plug. Our unit was on the end of a building and there was no outdoor security light for the 4 nights we were there even though we reported it more than once.

Two long nights of hearing the dog or dogs running in the room above. Front desk says there’s really nothing they can do since they allow pets here. No fan. Clock broken. Furniture very uncomfortable. No more Villas for us.

Good afternoon, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience you experienced from your weekend visit to Villas by the Sea. While we do have many pet friendly units, the guest above could possibly have been more respectful of others staying nearby. I have forwarded your comments with the appropriate staff so that corrections can be made and I thank you for taking time to share your comments. Sincerely, Dick Coyle General Manager

I had made reservations for this resort in march for a November vacation. I booked an oceanside room (they technically don’t have ocean view rooms, but they do). In August I upgraded my reservation for a better room for the cost of $300. When i arrived, i got the room at the end of the resort with of view of dead trees and broken fences. This is what i paid extra for! If you are looking for a room with a view, i strongly recommend one of the other hotels on the island. Plus when we got here, we were advised there is no housekeeping services due to covid. You have to empty your own garbage, change your own bedding if you want it changed. However, there is no adjustment on your billed for this lack of service. If you wanted clean towels you have to call housekeeping and they will leave the towels outside of your door! I have been here twice before and i dont think i will be back not if this is what you get for your money! To many other choices to stay at in the area.

Good afternoon, Thank you for taking time to express your concerns from your recent visit and I am terribly sorry that we failed to meet your expectations. While we are located on the ocean, many of our oceanside buildings do not have a view of the ocean. We are in the process of creating a new category of rooms that are truly "oceanview", with no obstructions. I also would like to apologize for the inconvenience with the lack of housekeeping services. It is a two fold problem- one being limited exposure due to Covid concerns that is still common with many visitors and the other being lack of adequate staffing. The availability of labor for Jekyll Island is extremely limited, and most other hotel operators on the island share the same challenges. I do hope that you would consider another visit in order for us to display the type of hospitality we are capable of providing. Sincerely, Dick Coyle General Manager

We spent three nights at Villas by the Sea. The facility is located at the northern end of the island and was very private and quiet. Location wise, it was perfectly situated to take long walks on Driftwood Beach and to access the bike trail which was right next to the parking lot. While our stay was comfortable, the unit we stayed in, 102, was just plain tired. It needs a really GOOD Spring cleaning (every corner in the unit was dirty), and some remodeling - peeling paint in the bathroom, burned out ceiling lights, exhaust fan not working in the bathroom, etc. - is sorely needed. One of the drawers in the bathroom vanity refused to stay closed (maybe there was a ghost continually pushing it open?!!) and this presented a hazard to the shins when entering the bathroom. There was no way to turn off the outside light by the front door which shone into the hall and the bedroom. We had to sleep with the bedroom door closed to keep out the light. Unlike all the other units around us, however, there were no screens on any of the windows or doors, so we couldn't enjoy the beautiful weather and crisp Fall air (we did open the back door once and a bird flew in!). Also, though we requested a beach view, and the unit was facing the beach, a hedge of bushes out back totally blocked us from seeing the ocean.

Good afternoon, Thank you for taking time to express your concerns from your recent visit to Villas by the Sea. I would like to apologize for the issues that created some inconveniences during your stay and the items mentioned have been addressed. While we do not have screens on our windows, there should have been a screen door on the patio doors. We hope that if your future travel plans include a return visit to Jekyll Island that you would again consider Villas by the Sea and enjoy a more pleasant experience. Thank you.
