Staying at the Indian Summer House was a truly wonderful experience. Don and his team were so thoughtful, from preparing our specially selected breakfasts, to taking us on a trip through the agricultural land to a traditional tea shop where we tried local delicacies! The food prepared by Rajesh and his kitchen team was delicious with so much flavour, using seasonal ingredients taken straight from the garden. The place itself was absolutely stunning- the rooms were beautifully designed, keeping the traditional style while having all modern amenities, and the outside area had a real tropical feel with lovely water features throughout. Don was incredibly hospitable and made our stay a relaxing break from our busy holiday. It was such a comfortable and welcoming place and I can't wait to return!

It sounds like this was a holiday inside a holiday. Part of our ethos is giving guests the time and space to step outside of their busy travels, life or schedule, to make sense of their wonderful India experience. We seemed to have nailed it on this occasion and we would warmly welcome you back to show you more of what a living a Kerala life is. Thankyou so much for this lovely and insightful review. Much appreciated by the whole team Kind regards Don

This is somewhere you have to go to experience - I would struggle to really describe the experience. Personal, quiet, intimate, luxurious, only 5 rooms (and it would be perfectly correct to call them suites!) All facing a courtyard garden, and essentially a tailor made break from everything.

We had the most amazing stay at the Indian Summer House! I absolutely LOVED the writers retreat with Caroline van de Pol and my partner and I were able to indulge in the luxury of the Indian Summer House environment and explore the local sights. I participated in the daily writing workshops which covered a variety of topics including personal essays, lyrical essays and poetry. Caroline's warm and friendly approach was professional, entertaining and wonderfully supportive. The one on one consultation was very affirming and I was able to establish some goals for myself that I have already started working towards. A special treat was sharing our work with the other participants. A little scary at first but always affirming and I think this helped to bond us all very closely. We took it in turns to share some of our writing during the evenings with fellow guests who were not part of the writing retreat. Again - a very special time. Along with our classes and discussions we also had plenty of time to focus on our own writing for as long as we wanted. Sharing our thoughts, ideas, doubts and vulnerabilities in an exquisite environment was magic! We arrived at the Indian Summer House at about 1.30am after many hours travelling and were greeted by a delicious drink and Jasmine flower lay. After our first night in our luxurious room we awoke to the first of our daily yoga sessions with Riju - who was extremely kind and generous! We also made sure to have a couple of Ayurveda massages dring the week - heavenly! There were a number of excursions suggested for us including a walking tour which featured a short river crossing with Jayan -third generation boatman, a wander through the agricultural land featuring tapioca, rubber, bananas and more. Then tea with Mohanan at his traditional Tea Shop enjoying local delicacies with our chai (pazham pori, bananas, tapioca chips and pappada vada). Then back into town past Nehru Park and over the first concrete bridge in Asia before returning home through the back laneways of Muvattupuzha. Shopping and a cultural tour of Fort Kochi were also available and we opted for the cultural tour with Peter our guide. We visited Tharavadhu where we learnt about the famous Swami who recently celebrated his 101 year death anniversary and the many books he wrote, some of which were at the house written in Sanskrit on palm leaf. Another tough part of the day was relaxing by the pool and deciding on the daily menu or where to have drinks. The chef, Rajesh, delighted us with a cooking demonstration of the evening's meal made with the vegetables and fruits from the Indian Summer House's organic garden. On our second last night we dined on a wonderful Sadya meal prepared by Rajesh and eaten by hand off banana leaves. Sailing and kayaking on Lake Vembanad and picnic lunch at a Private Sailing Club was also one of the activities available to the non- writing guests. We were so well taken care of by Albin, Rajesh, Bindu, Biju and the gardening and security team A truly magical stay and we can't wait to return!.

Everyone attending the Writers Retreat participated with energy and purpose and I really enjoyed the diversity of the group and the supportive interactions. We are glad you enjoyed the local excursions and activities that were on offer and hope that you got a glimpse of local life in Muvattapuzha Kerala India. And you were also able to enjoy the daily yoga and a relaxing Ayurveda massage whilst working up your best seller! Thanks so much for the review it means so much to the team who work so hard to create memorable experiences for all our guests!

Thankyou so much and yes Rajesh is a bit of a gem and just a great guy - he takes time to listen to what you like or your dietary restrictions whilst at the same time introducing the diversity of Kerala cuisine! He loves healthy eating and keeping things light and tasty - perfect for travelling! We very much appreciate your review and hope you will share your experience with others. Kind regards Don

What an oasis! The Indian Summer House was our hidden gem in Kerala. As soon as you are welcomed you enter a feeling of tranquility- beautiful surroundings, a fabulous pool area to relax in and the best food we ate in India. Our only regret was we only had one night before our flight home - I urge anyone to extend their stay, it has become our reason to return to Southern India!

This is an excellent place to stay. All the staff are well trained and friendly without being overly so. Our room was modern, well equipped and the shower room was palatial - there was even a rain shower! The food was excellent and the cook even came through after each meal to make sure that we had enjoyed the food and that we could ask any questions. The House is built around a central garden with a veranda which allows ready movement even in heavy rain. Added to this, there is a large swimming pool. We would strongly recommend this little palace!!

We had an amazing stay at ISH. We've visited Kerala many times and this was our first visit to ISH. It was an oasis of calm, perfectly situated within walking distance to the vibrant town of Muvattapuzha. Don and Mini have created a wonderful property, fantastic Keralan architecture in beautiful grounds with comfort at the forefront. The food prepared by Rajesh was delicious - wonderful curries and a brilliant banana pancake! We were looked after by Mobin and the rest of the staff brilliantly, nothing was too much trouble. The experiences that are available are fab - really well thought out, I don't think we'd have had the confidence to visit a tea shop with the locals on our own to have Chai and tasty snacks. Going with Rajesh we learnt so much. And we felt privileged that Don and Mini took us to their local temple for a Pooja. The surrounding area is interesting to visit and see more of beautiful Kerala. Daily yoga with Riju was great and we enjoyed some excellent Ayurveda treatments with Leela - mum even had a foot massage by the gorgeous pool. Overall a fantastic stay (I've run out of superlatives). Would totally recommend. Thank you so much for looking after us so well.

Me and my husband had the most peaceful and relaxing time staying in the Indian summer house.Staying there is a really amazing experience in India where the staff look after you so well and aim to create the perfect stay. We had local tours of the markets, tea shops and Fort Kochi amongst other things, which were really interesting and special. The in house massages were also a fantastic away to relax. We had incredible food cooked by your own chef, and were able to try all sorts of South and North Indian cuisine that was so tasty and demonstrated true Indian home cooking. The house itself is very beautiful, with incredible gardens and a large swimming pool perfect for those balmy Indian days. I would highly recommend a stay at the Indian summer house, the longer the better!

What a wonderful few days we spent at the serene Indian Summer House! The welcome was warm, the accommodation spacious and comfortable, the food and service superb. We enjoyed a magical evening celebrating Divali, with rangoli, an incredible singing performance, candle lighting ceremony and poolside BBQ. We experienced a slice of local life, meeting the toddy man and the ferry man and taking an excursion for tea. There are also plenty of relaxation opportunities - daily yoga to start the day, spa services, a delightful pool area and plenty of shady spots for quiet reflection. Could not recommend this more highly. Can’t wait to return!
