We've been here several times for long weekends, but this time we came in March noticed a definite decline in the quantity and quality of food the restaurant. True, this is their off season, so we'll give them a partial pass. While the quantity has always been too much for the people served, that has been one of the hallmarks of the Dillard House. However, this time the quality was just not the same - nor the service.

The fireplace suite was a different matter. The beautiful king-sized bed is comfortable and housekeeping is very diligent about cleaning, stocking, and ensuring that we have a good supply of logs for the fireplace.

Overall, the Dillard House fireplace suites are a very affordable alternative to renting a mountain cabin. We were on the far end of Highlands and enjoyed the valley views, views of the horses grazing, and a relaxing morning trail ride around the farm.

Despite several glitches with the restaurant this is a relaxing, affordable place to recharge your batteries.

We've visited the restaurant numerous times over the years and the food has always been good. This was our first time staying at the inn. We don't ever want to stay there again. The staff were unaccommodating and anything asked (which wasn't much) fell on deaf ears. The rooms themselves were decent, somewhat dated, but overall okay. After an afternoon of rain, it finally stopped and the sun came out. My kids wanted to swim in the pool. When we got there the pool was locked, so I went to the front desk to ask if they could swim. I was told that since it was raining and storming earlier they locked it. I can understand that they lock it during a storm, but it wasn't storming now and had completely cleared. That's it, no, "we'll see what we can do to unlock it for you" or even an "I'm sorry, our policy is...". This was the feeling you got of the overall attitude of some of the staff and we have no desire to come again. The location of Dillard House is beautiful, but there are many other places in the area just as scenic that are more customer friendly.

Honestly, I was worried about staying here because of some of the reviews. Also, please realize a lot of the hotel reviews listed are for the restaurant.
We opted for a fireplace suite and stayed in the Valley View building. Price was great! Love the suite!! Very clean and nicely decorated. Some of the furniture had some wear and tear but doesn’t bother us at all. Has a living room with wood burning fireplace (although the wood provided was green), separate bedroom with king sized bed (very comfortable), kitchenette, tons of closet space for longer stays, bathroom had a shower/tub combo and a walk in shower, and back porch with rocking chairs. Will definitely start here again!

I used to stay here years ago when kayaking in the area. Happy to report that the ambience and service hasn’t changed. What a rustic, authentic and warm experience. The Dillard family still owns and manages the property, and is staying true to the traditions of quality family style southern meals, and rustic but comfortable accommodations. My room was clean, and the service was great. I will come back!

This was a first time visit to a long storied famous Georgia destination in Dillard, Ga. The accommodations were a genuine disappointment. It is obvious that the Hotel portion is resting on it's laurels and not keeping pace with it's past reputation. The rooms are in desperate need of upgrades to bathrooms and entertainment centers. The TV's are pitiful! The only redeeming value was the beds are great! Our sleeping experience was a disaster since we were placed next to the mechanical room that had an errant pump with a squealing bearing that kept us up for hours. Thanks to Mark, the security guard, assured us it would be taken care of and offered a breakfast voucher and a move if so desired. We accepted the voucher and declined the room change since was 4:30 in the morning and a Convention starting in 4 hours. The hotel acknowledged the noise and offered a 10 percent room discount. We ordered the carry-out Country Breakfast that arrived with no butter or jelly for the biscuit and grits and no other condiments. The bacon was fabulous!

Awful experience. Food was terrible! Service was poor! We came here many years ago, and it was great. It's apparent the ownership no longer cares about giving their guests a quality experience. Very sad to see it fail. My wife said never again!

I'd heard about the Dillard House for 40 years always in very positive ways. I just spent 3 days there and I wonder why my experience is so different. We stayed at a "chalet," which was not in any way positive. The furnishings were in poor shape and nothing had been updated since maybe the 70's. The driveway up the mountainside is only partially paved and is wide enough for only one car to pass with no wide spots to pull off to let another car go. The streetlight outside our chalet did not have a working bulb so we had to carry flashlights to go out at night. There was no dishwasher or disposal & no maid service was available. The stove, fridge, and microwave were very old & rickety and it took more than 30 minutes to nuke 2 sweet potatoes which were still uncooked. The wall paper was dirty and the tub had a dead cricket in it. It had been there for a long time because this is the end of November. Some space heaters didn't work and cheap curtains did not warm up the room because the windows are single glazed. Cobwebs decorated the dining room chandelier and the everything looked neglected and abused. We cleaned up what we couldn't stand to live with. The flatware was like in a real cheap cafeteria. It is the shabbiest "chalet" I have ever seen and I felt insulted to be expected to stay in it and pay for it too. My reservation was made about a month before arrival so there was plenty of time to prepare the chalet properly. The Covid-19 crisis is no excuse; this shabbiness is long-standing.
Dillard House advertises a petting zoo which has about a dozen goats and a few chickens as well as a few feral cats. That was it. No other animals to be seen. The goats could only be petted if bribed with food. That's the "Children's activities"

This place seemed to be heaven on earth it had very beautiful views from the hotel room and then the horses. The rooms appliances wete outdated like the tv was an old box tv and we only had cable tv and an older dvd player in the room for entertainment which was ok. But after staying from Friday to Sunday we needed an extra day since my fiance wasnt done with his job he was doing in the area. We got moved to another room for the last day which was fine so we moved and asked for a late check out and they told us it was for 3pm. He was going to be about 15 mins late to pick us up from the room for check out and called the front desk and told the staff which they told him it was fine. When we checked out they ended up charging us over a $100 for the extra 45 mins we were in the room even though they said it was fine on the phone and mentioned no charges or me and my kids would have exited the room and stood outside to wait for my fiance to pick us up. Then two days later we got hit for another $300!!!!! They claimed that we had broken the tv in room 167 which was the first room we stayed in. The tv was a very old box tv no worth no where near $300 if we had in fact broke it. They said they had pictures of pieces broken off the back. Which is hard to believe seeing how we didnt move the tv any except once for me to try and figure out how to turn it from dvd to cable and it fit so snug in the tv stand i could barely turn it to see the buttons so the tv isnt coming out of the hole for it to be dropped for it to get broken like they claimed it was. The tv was working just fine when we left the room also because i had turned it off so my son would actually help me pack our things to move rooms instead of watching the Simpson's. So if the tv was in fact broken we didnt break it but the people who came into that room right after us eithet broke it or the people who came aftwr the people who came after us broke it. Why wait 3 days to charge us for this instead of coming to us as soon as it was supposedly found and pictures taken of it?? Why wait until 2 more guest have been checked in and out of the room before charging us or even telling us about the tv and then placinf it on us? I guess since we have kids they thought it would pass easier. We have new flat screens in every room in our home even the 2 year olds room and a tv has never been damaged or broken. Highly doubt my small kids could break a huge box tv anyways. Absolutely ridiculous how they did us and as much as we spent on the rooms for our 4 day stay it was absolutely bonkers to charge us over $400 more for nothing. Ive read a few other reviews where other peoples money was taken but with no explanation so i guess they have just started putting bull crap reasons for the over charges now. Like the 45 mins late checking out and the old box tv being broken. We will never stay there again. They dont even deserve my 1 star to be honest.

We arrived on May 1 approximately 6:00 pm. I had made a reservation for a specific chalet, which I was told was available. Upon arrival, I was given the keys to a different chalet that was not the one I had reserved. When I told the person at the front desk she informed me that it was not available. After we returned from dinner we found that our internet and tv were not working. I tried to call the front desk at 9:30 but no one ever answered the phone. I tried numerous times. The next morning we drove over to the registration building. The person at the front desk was very nice and assured us that it would be fixed. I also spoke to Mr. Dillard (the owner) and he said it would be taken care of. We returned to our room later that afternoon only to find out that neither had been fixed. When I called the front desk again, I ended up speaking to Mrs. Dillard who informed me (very very rudely) that they could not fix it and it required a technician from the company to repair. At that point I informed my husband what the issue was. While talking to him I used profanity, which was overheard by Mrs. Dillard. She proceeded to get very nasty at that point. I informed her 4 times that I was not speaking to her and that I could speak to my husband in any manner I choose. I told her that I was not willing to pay full price for the chalet since I was not getting all advertised services. She said she could move us or give us a discount. When I replied that it was only fair to receive a discount she went on a rant. At that point she threatened to have us removed from the property. I asked to speak to Mr. Dillard but she told me he was not in. She added that it would not do any good to speak to him because she was MRS. DILLARD and he would agree with her. I have never experienced such rude unprofessional behavior from a hotelier in all of my travels, which are numerous. At this point in time, after being required to close down for 6 weeks due to COVID-19, you would think that a lodging establishment would be grateful to have guests spending money at their business. Obviously, by her actions and behavior, Mrs. Dillard does not care if customers return to Dillard House. I will never be back and I can be sure that none of my friends or business associates will ever go there again.

The accommodations are in need of renovation. The room was musty smelling, the furnishings were from decades old, the ceiling was crumbling, and although had been “cleaned”, the floor had not been vacuumed. We were looking so forward to eating in the dining room. What a disappointment especially for the money. We felt like we were in a cafeteria. When we got to our table the dishes and garbage from the previous people were on a tray next to our table as if it had pulled up a chair. We finally had to ask for it to be removed. Our server’s clothing were filthy. She acted like we were a bother. The food was so-so. We will never return. A positive note is that the grounds were beautiful and that’s their draw to get people in. Their only draw.

Janis, my wife and I stayed there earlier this year. I believe the experience is what people make of it. The dllard house is in the middle of so much to do. They have the little zoo and horseback riding on site and the rooms all have nice views, though it has been the late 90s since I stayed in a valley view room. I remember that back porch with the rocking chairs and being able to look in the valley and see the horses. As far as food, I remind myself, there is live music and it is all you can eat style plus with all the trails, waterfalls and other activities in the area you have plenty chance to work it off enjoyably. Hope this helps. Take care.

Not sure which is Chalet 2 but they are all quite nice but rustic. Make sure it is not the chalet with the hot tub in the bedroom because that smell of chlorine drove to another but smaller bedroom.
