Island Bay Resort garners praise for its serene atmosphere and well-maintained amenities, including complimentary water sports equipment. Guests frequently commend the cleanliness of both the grounds and the rooms, attributing this to the owners' meticulous care. Although the rooms are celebrated for their comfort and cleanliness, some guests find them somewhat small.
The service at the resort is repeatedly lauded, with staff members receiving accolades for their attentiveness. While the value assessments vary, with a few concerns about cancellation fees, many visitors appreciate the charming local decor and thoughtful touches throughout the property.

What a beautiful, well manicured resort property! The private beach and views were stunning. Sue and Steve, the onsite caretakers were the wonderful. You couldn’t ask for two nicer people to assist you with check in and provide answers to all the amenities offered at this 5 star resort. We have already booked for next year. Well done, Island Bay Resort👏👏👏.

My wife and I had a short last minute trip down to key west and decided to take our time getting back to Miami so we wanted a nice hotel between the two. I was looking at reviews for Island Bay and thought it sounded great so booked it.
The reviews did NOT do it justice, this is little almost boutique resort was well above my expectations even after reading all of the great reviews. The owners live on site and you can tell them take great pride in providing amazing service and accommodations.
As an entrepreneur myself, I love finding businesses that truly value giving a great experience. The attention to detail was unbelievable. The entire resort property was meticulously maintained. We had originally planned to leave in the morning to hang out in Miami during the day before our flight home, but totally changed our plans and just hung our on the beach all day at the resort. They even have a little shower house at the beach that you can check out earlier and then just hang out afterwards.
Thank you Mike & Carol for an amazing visit. We will definitely be back any time we are back in the keys!

I've never stayed in a resort quite like this one, as the rooms sizes are pretty small but as it turns out that's part of the reason as to why this resort is so good!
When you enter this place, it feels like you're in your own little get-away despite it being so close to the main road! The rooms were so cozy and quite cute with each one having its own little kitchen if you ever feel like just having a quiet one in. There's also a supermarket, liquor store, chemist and a couple of restuarants less than a 5 minute drive away.
Lastly, i'd like to thank the mangement team for saving my ass! I am from Australia and after the 2 hour drive from the resort to the airport I realised I had forgotten my passport. I called up and they were happy to pay for priority postage with a $200 insurance fee on the passport and insisted that I not pay them back. I just recieved my passport today :) I would highly recommend anyone to stay here!

We have been three times, we like to spend the weekend. Very cozy, family-owned, very clean, words cannot describe how much we enjoyed coming to this resort. Carol and her husband have been very accomodating and attentive. The room itself was very clean and detail-oriented. Perfect for a couple. You have access to the property's private beach and kayaks and paddleboards are included. They even disinfect the room with a UV Ray machine for those worried about COVID.

I would 110% recommend this resort to friends and family. We were hesitant to travel with Covid since I am a breast cancer survivor but we wanted to celebrate being done with chemo, radiation and surgery. This place was so amazing and a much needed break from the world. Before our trip I spoke with someone on the phone and she was super nice and helpful an answered all my questions. The rooms were amazing and the cleanest place we have ever stayed at. The beds and pillows were super comfy and shower had good water pressure and hot water. I could not hear anyone next to use or outside the entire time we were there. Upon arrival we were given a sheet with restaurant suggestions and in the room there was a nice binder with a whole bunch of information. It is obvious that the owner took great care in making sure the guests have a great time.
We did not use either but there is laundry and dive storage lockers onsite. There is also corn hole, kayaks and stand up paddles boards that can be used. Super cute areas with plenty of places to sit and relax-comfy chairs, hammocks.
Overall, we were super happy with this resort and I couldn't have asked for a more stress free weekend to celebrate. 100% covid friendly.

If you’re looking for a relaxing, feel-at-home, immaculately themed and maintained cottage type stay, then this is a must for you. The owners go above and beyond the norm to make you feel special. Each cottage has a special theme. And, the grounds are immaculately manicured with faux tiki torches lining the drive/walkway, BBQ grills at each cottage, hammocks, several covered patios and numerous outdoor recliners. While there is not a long walking beach there is a sunset viewing area and space for sunbathing or just relaxing. There are a lot of things to see and do in the area. However, keep in mind that Tavernier is about an hours drive from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. And, it’s about another two hour drive to Key West. So, plan your trip wisely. But, do consider this privately owned and operated gem a place to relax and enjoy Tavernier, Key Largo, Islamorada, and points beyond.

Island Bay Resort is the definition of a perfect getaway! From Mike personally greeting my wife and me by name when we arrived to his suggestions of places to visit on our last day when we checked out, we could not have asked for a better place to spend some time to chill and unplug for a few days.
The attention to detail and impeccable cleanliness of this resort speaks to the labor of love that Mike and Carol have for their business. We did not want for anything during our stay. Mike and Carol were always around if we needed any supplies restocked in our room. They were happy to suggest places to visit and their favorite local restaurants (which were all spot on - by the way) when we asked them.
The resort is tucked away off the main highway but we didn’t have any issue with road noise. The private beach was a wonderful place to enjoy the sounds of nature in the morning with a cup of coffee and view the unique sunsets from Mother Nature every evening. Watching two dolphins play on our last night was a nice touch as well.
There are kayaks and paddle boards available during your stay if you are coordinated and adventurous which is a nice touch. :) If you’re not into that, you can simply swim in the water, play some cornhole or simply soak up the sun with your favorite beverage. This was truly an oasis for us to take a break from the current events that have been overwhelming at times.
We were in Cottage #10. It was perfect. There was a king bed, sofa and dining room table. The refrigerator was good sized for our needs and while we didn’t use it, there was a two burner electric stove inside and a charcoal grill outside.
If you are thinking of staying in the Key Largo area, you will regret not staying at the Island Bay Resort if you have the opportunity. It will be our go to when we go back to the Florida Keys.

This is a small 10 cottage resort that is extremely well cared for by owners Carol & Mike. The parking is right across from the cottages with a one-lane driveway. We enjoyed the little beach with easy swimming/snorkeling access. The water was so clear you could see fish while floating around. The room was very clean & we felt safe despite COVID. I would advise researching so you know what you are getting here - it is quiet & small. We were very happy with our stay, enjoying beautiful sunsets beyond the boats docked to the side.

We stayed here 8 years ago and absolutely loved it. It is said “you can’t go back” but our return trip was just as nice. This property is immaculate, the details and decorations/furnishings in each cottage are delightful and hosts Mike and Carol, as nice as ever. We enjoyed the location, the private beach, the tiki hut for our happy hour, and the quietness and charm of the resort itself. The Island Bay Resort offers so much more than a hotel/motel or even a full service resort. True old Florida atmosphere!

Our first time staying in Tavernier and Island Bay Resort did not disappoint. TA 5 star reviews along with IBR inviting website got us hooked to book. Mike(we didn’t see Carol) was welcoming throughout our entire stay. We booked the Conch room which felt like a home away from home. We were grateful for nice weather and spectacular sunsets and moon. Must not forget the moon! The blue umbrellas and clean shower/changing room near by was extremely refreshIng since the weather, although beautiful was very hot.
The water was calm and clean. I’m not one for swimming in murky water but the visibility was clear enough so I put on my water shoes and ventured in. A first for me in the Key’s Bayside.
On our departure day(check out is 11am), we decided to extend our stay. I called Mike and requested a late check out awaiting confirmation from our dog sitter. Although Mike was nice to extend it to 11:30am, someone had already booked the room. 😫 It’s that good here that you do not want to leave.
A memorable experience with much needed R&R!! Definitely, will return!!😇
