Beautiful accommodations. Staff helpful and kind. Wonderful way to get healthy and stay healthy! Exercise classes were fun. Lectures were engaging. Other guests were interesting! Really enjoyed my visit.
After two weeks at Pritikin, I am back on track with my exercise. I have learned so much from the incredible lectures and staff here. My cholesterol has dropped tremendously. It is a lifesaver and a life changer
While we were at Pritikin both my wife and I were fortunate enough to meet Frank Musumeci. He is very thorough and comprehensive. Has encyclopedic knowledge of human ergonomics and anatomy. He is not a one size fits all guy. He analyzes each problem and customizes an approach. He relieved my knee pain by analyzing me from the feet up. Some simple changes in posture and foot supports and I am so much better. My wife also had some back pain which has never been properly treated or diagnosed. He figured it out quickly with a listening ear and a comprehensive exam. Can’t thank Frank enough.
This place nearly destroyed my health, in addition it was depressing. I went there for a lifestyle change. What they do is not a sustainable program. Their weight loss is all water for quick gratification, no fat loss. They take your blood every week to monitor your kidneys knowing that their program and diet can hurt them. I have been to other health camps, anywhere will be better than pritikin. Truthfully I am amazed they are still in business.
Work and world class education. Here in july, which although cheaper I dont recommend, too darn humid and hot to be comfy outside and a surprising amount of rain. Definitely plan on arriving on a saturday or sunday...the program is geared to sunday arrivals and you will develop a cohort. Personally my plane landed 6:25pm on saturday night; cheap airport hotel, and I'm ready for pickup by pritikin and enjoy first day of checking in, getting lay of land. If u book more than 1 week, you get new set of educational classes and more opportunity to enjoy elective classes you dont have time for first week, plus dining room offerings fresh. Mealtimes offer great opportunity to mingle with guests, a highlight of my 10 day stay, dont be shy. Sit at table with several seats and welcome everybody. Many shared experiences and tips to be had here. As a single woman I was perfectly comfy. Within a few days, Pritikin took away a blood pressure medication, my blood pressure achieved un dreamed of levels, and I am educated on when, precisely, I might need to re introduce the med, plus the benefits of a sodium reduction. Staff excellent. Food as good as it can be. If you want to lower blood pressure or cholesterol, learn about lifestyle choices, (and I mean be truly educated), lower blood glucose or learn how to exercise and integrate into your life, this is the place for you. A welcoming community, plush digs, world class medical attention and counseling. Its work tho...stay as many nights as you can for maximum benefit. As far as weight loss, you'll likely lose a bit, but after 9 days, I've only lost two pounds. …
OK, here's the good and the not so good. You will see results. Big ones. Weight loss, blood pressure lowered, healthy eating. The medical staff and instructors are top notch. The guest rooms and facilities are very posh. But – don’t expect time for the “spa” part, come prepared to be overwhelmed at first, and expect a full schedule. If you don’t like the medical aspect (bloodwork, repeated blood pressure checks, urinanalysis) this is not for you. If you’re an introvert, it will be hard to connect with others because they don’t have any mechanisms in place to facilitate that. And despite what glowing reviews say, you may well be hungry. They don’t limit your portions, but if you don’t like what is served the options are limited, and there’s not much you can do if you miss snack time or try to get the kitchen staff’s attention between meals.…
Pritikin changed my life ! The food, the staff, the excersise program, everything I would reccomend Pritikin to anyone who needed or just wanted to feel better. The entire program is AMAZING and very easy to adapt into ones day to day life. I cannot imagine anyone not benefiting from this program.
My two week trip to Pritikin was a life changing event for me. I went to Pritikin hoping to gain some knowledge on becoming more healthy and hopefully to lose a little weight. My expectations were greatly exceeded! The education I received will improve my health for the rest of my life. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and made being away from home a lot easier. The Pritikin program is not an easy vacation, you will work very hard. Between the exercise classes, education classes, cooking classes and optional classes, I was busy from morning till night. The Pritikin diet is an extremely low sodium and HIGH vegetable diet which took me, a vegetable hater, several days to get used to but I did. The chef and cooking staff are very creative with spices and are very informative and helpful during cooking classes. The entire staff had to work very hard while new rules were thrown at them during my stay due to COVID-19. They followed the new rules and still delivered a quality atmosphere and experience. Wow, 🤬 what a rip off! Only go if you have money to put in toilet and you want to lose all your water weight! The food is a joke and just blatantly unrealistic! You better no spanish too or you’ll be exhausted from language barrier. Go to Red Mountain Resort or some other fun place where you get activity, healthy eating options and beautiful / quiet accommodations. I lost same amount in 4 days at red mountain as i did here in 7! Difference was drastic!!! Go elsewhere....
I don't want to write a very long review, but there is so much I want to say. Someone smart once said that true healers teach you how to stay healthy instead of charging you forever. Pritikin is such healing place, they tech you how to stay healthy. Before Pritikin, my health was not very good, I tried every diet, even had weight loss surgery, lost some weight and regained most. I wasn't eating a lot so couldn't understand why I am struggling my entire life. I went to Pritikin for two weeks and signed up for two weeks of cooking classes at Pritikin, I wanted to make sure that when I go home I can follow the program. Chef Vince was fantastic and I learned so much! While taking these cooking classes I actually realized how much fear I had of cooking or actually of doing something wrong. I didn't know that it was the reason why I rarely cooked, but this class helped me to overcome my fears and I am cooking all the time since I came home. Food and Pritikin eating plan was such revelation. I realized that I can eat as much as I need not to be hungry and still loose weight, imagine that. Turns out, how much I eat wasn't the problem, it was what I ate. At Pritikin I ate whole day long and had dessert every dinner and lost weight. Exersise: I already exercised but what I loved was ability to try different classes in one location. I tried classes I never did in my life: different yoga classes, water aerobics, Zumba, fun dance aerobics (can't remember name of this class). I would like to mention that I suffered with pains and aches for so long and then I took Maria's Restorative yoga class and pain went away, just like that. I hope Maria and her class will be offered more than just on Saturday, she is a healer and she healed me. Frank: he is the person that evaluates your body mechanics from head to toe and prescribes exercises to help you. It's like a car, if gears are grinding wrong way, it will damage it and everything around it. Do schedule Frank way ahead of time, best thing ever. I also learned a smarter way to take care of muscle aches: do hot tub first to warm up muscles, then stretch (Maria's yoga) then massage :-))) Dear Pritikin center, thank you for teaching me information and hands on to become and stay healthy, you truly changed my life for better.
