Detailed Reviews
i was a little worried to be honest , we have always stayed in resorts or houses when we go to the keys ,so I was kinda scared being a "Botel"! BUT ,From the second we got there and saw our cute little room (#5) I knew my worries were over! Resorts we have stayed at were not this SPOTLESS! No frills here AT ALL,but the room is perfect . Bed was very comfortable, AC freezing , and opened the sliders and boat was literally right there! Kim and Steve are AWESOME! They treat you like family , we just loved them and hated to leave . We are looking forward to going back!!

You can't ask for anything better. The room was clean even for an older room. The service was excellent. The location was great, close to everything. The water was right outside the back door. The hotel is right on the highway near attractions, boat rentals, charters and restaurants.

This is a great place to stay! Very friendly managers / cleaning staff / suggestion givers / etc. This may be a small place, but they make you feel at home! Very clean, and tidy! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to the keys! Another plus is that it is pretty much in between Key Largo and Key West!
Thank you for a great experience!

It COULD have been a hoot!. 40;s 50;s decor, pleasant old furnishings, and funky, My being a senior, this reminded me of the 40s/50s cabin type motels you found along the Florida highways post W.W.II. I was really excited to experience nostalgia of years gone by! Everything was clean, even the "fragrance" reminding me of the old lysol that was used in the "old" days.
The room sorta reminded me of a stage set for a retro play or movie (where was Humphrey Bogart hiding?). The Bummer was was the receptionist . She was surly,....she must have had a bad day or bad year, I tried to break the ice, by telling her I had a cousin who had been a doctor in Marathon back after WWII and maybe she would have known him when she was a little girl,. Her response was a curt "NO" she had only been there 4 years. Wow, must have been a difficult 4 years.A pity, since it could have been kinda funny had she been older and maybe a hardened character "inn keeper" but sadly she was an "angry" young middle aged woman who seemed to resent someone checking in. She gave no info regarding the property and we didn't even know they had a swimming pool or BarBQs until this a.m. when I saw photos from this site! So, if you like kitschy, don't mind not feeling welcome, don't expect a smiling, welcoming face after a long hard very windy drive , don't mind the rates being switched when you check in, as well as very little communication regarding directions, then give it a try. Personally as much as I like quaint, I would forgo it for another place. Don't get me wrong....this was not the "Bates" motel, this was an "experience"!! . .

This was a great find for us! Steve & Kim are great hosts & make you feel at home with a fun & relaxing atmosphere. The rooms are exceptionally clean & if you step out the back door you're in the water. You can almost touch the manatees from your room! A boat ramp on site is a major plus. We can't wait to go back!

There was a terrible sweet smell. Then, there was this big tree trunk on top of your head. Why was it there?! Talk about unlucky. Also, washing your hands was very tricky. The soap was mushy too. When you open the slide door, the is a fish smell. GROSS

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience for your one night stay. Apparently no research was done on the area you were visiting. Therefore that explains the lack of knowledge about the very authentic Keys style Driftwood Lamps that are one of a kind! And very hard to find. Let me also explain when you are staying on the waterfront in the Florida Keys, the tides bring in sea weed and with the heating of the day and the wind, hence the smell of sea grass. No way to control “Mother Nature”, sometimes I wish I could! Hope this explanation clears the air and helps you better understand your visit to the Keys. As for the sweet smell that would be the room deodorizer and as for the “mushy” soap, that is a result of letting it sit in water in the sink. We work very hard and diligently to make sure that everyone has a pleasant stay. Our many reviews speak for themselves. Again, thank you and always enjoy life to the fullest!

I recently stayed here on a three day fishing trip. The last time I did this I had rented a house down in Key Colony Beach just down the road.Since I was only going to be on a three day trip,I didn't want to incur the extra expense. I truly had no idea what to expect. The only words that describes this place is amazingly impessive. This was the first hotel in a while that I had been to that was actually cleaned properly. The staff and managerial staff went out of their way to ensure that I was comfortable and happy.I am definiely staying here again!!

We have just returned from a great stay at this lovely quaint motel/botel and would recommend it to anyone traveling in the Keys. Our room was very comfortable, spacious, and absolutely spotless as were the pool and patio areas. Unforeseen curcumstances forced us to change our reservations several times. Phil and Laura were so patient, friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome when we finally arrived. They are wonderful managers! We cannot wait to return to Marathon to spend some time at the Royal Hawaiian Motel/Botel!

We stayed here for 3 nights in October 2018. The room was comfortable with a nice kitchenette. Good air conditioning and shower water pressure. You are able to fish right outside your room....caught a snapper and a bunch of sharks and one night something HUGE but it got away. The pool is refreshing and the managers are awesome! There are restaurants and things to do nearby. Will definitely be back!

We visited Royal Hawaiian mid February. Our three night visit was perfect. Our room was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Managers Steve and Kim were very helpful. This was our first visit to the Keys so we had a lot of questions. Loved seeing the manatees out our back door. Will definitely stay here when we get back to Marathon.
