I was hesitant to book because of some of the reviews. I'm glad I didn't let that stop me. This is a charming place. Our cottage was clean and had everything we needed. We brought a redneck home made AC that we never needed because some reviews said the AC was not adequate. The AC worked fine. The common areas were beautifully landscaped. You can pull right up to your front door. The cottages are clean, quiet and well kept. There was wifi in the common ares and tiki bar but not in the room. So what? Who comes to the keys to stay in their room. There is a very nice tiki bar and taco truck right on the property. The location was perfect. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, they have high quality hotel bath towels and the water pressure was great .This is a perfect spot for the budget conscious traveler to enjoy the keys.

We stayed in a canal/waterfront room king bed on oceans terrace, which was off site of the main property. Overall, we were happy with the room, modern, very clean, well kept. Pretty much right in the middle of marathon. The bed was a bit saggy in the center and there's a fridge but no microwave. The cracked conch Cafe, literally about a block away serves good bkfst. We saw a manatee from the room too!

We booked cottage 10. It was old Florida, small and very clean. Our elderly dog was quite comfortable there. The AC was great, we actually raised the temp when we got there as it was too cold. Housekeeping was very friendly to us and Scout. The tiki hut and taco truck were great, we had a Barbacoa burrito one night and pina coladas there. Both delicious. My only complaint was a bit of litter on the side of the entry road and the view at the end of the road was disappointing as well . We thought we would be able to bring chairs down to watch the sunset but it was not conducive to that. I think some updated photos of the grounds would be helpful. The place has changed since some of the photos I looked at were taken. Mostly for the better. All in all, if travelling with a pet that is more than 20 lbs (what most places accept) this is a great place to feel relaxed and be able to go out an enjoy what is around.

The staff was super friendly, the room was nice and clean, and the bed was very comfortable.
Tropical Cottages are also located pretty close to the middle of the Florida Keys and just minutes from a very nice beach.
I was a bit shocked to find that we had a private outside shower and bathroom.
There was a sink, microwave and small refrigerator in the room too.
There are a few things that would have made the stay 5 stars.
The outside shower needs better drainage. They didn't have any kind of drainage. The water went all the way to the sink and toilet area and there needs to be some hooks and shelves to hold towels and toiletries out there.
Other than that it was awesome and even with those minor inconveniences we would stay again.

We booked cottage 4 for a week, and it was perfect. We walked in, it smelled lemony fresh and A/C had the place nice and chilled for us. Super cute, plus this cabin has a side door out to a private little area where hubby could smoke without bothering anyone. Full size frig and freezer so we stocked it with water and ice for our stay because it was hot! There was a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, cups, plates and silverware which we weren't expecting. We helped ourselves to coffee at the bar in the morning, under the Tiki Hut, and when we weren't out exploring the Keys, ate a whole lot of taco's and quesadilla's from the La Isla Taco Grill food truck, plus there were great drink specials daily at the Tiki bar. What's really nice is that everywhere in the Key's you have to wait in line for places, or the tours were sold out, or there were no more scooters left to rent, no parking spots left etc...the keys are a very popular place but busy, so it was really nice at the end of the day to stay at a place where you can get a really good drink, at a really good price, and sit where you like and enjoy the company of really friendly folks. Oh and btw, Internet worked pretty good in the cabin, I uploaded tons of photo's and posted them but also, they say it's best under the Tiki so if you have a problem just go sit under the Tiki and quit complaining....the Keys are literally miles out in the ocean. Our stay was cottage 4, but there's lots of little cottages and they're all different and cute.

WARNING! After booking this location six months ago for a stay in July, the owner messaged me today to say she has decided to increase the rate and not honor the rate I paid at booking. For our three night stay that was already paid for and confirmed, she requested an extra $600 or she would cancel. After refusing, she canceled our stay and wished us "good luck" finding another location for the busiest time of year.

Do not trust that your booking will be honored. What a scam. Completely dishonorable owner who does not look out for her customers. Now I have to tell my two young children we will no longer be able to go on our Keys vacation. Thanks for ruining our summer plans with your greediness.

Now, to top it off, every time I post a review, she attempts to take it down instead of making the situation right. The most dishonest business owner I’ve ever dealt with.

I honestly got worried after reading some of these reviews. I was expecting the worse but I was pleasantly surprised! We stayed in cottage 1 which has one bedroom and were traveling with a dog and toddler. We choose to stay here not only because we had a dog but also because it's the middle key and didn't want to pay Key West pricing. It was a nice half way point although this key is particular isn't as nice as some of the others, it does still have a handful of attractions that are worth visiting! When we first arrived, the first thing I noticed was how cute and well taken care of the grounds are so I immediately began to feel optimistic. When we checked into our cottage I inspected the place (I even looked under the mattress and under the bed). Everything was CLEAN! I am not an easy grader and although the cottage isn't a 5 star hotel (but you're also not paying for one either) it was cleaned like one. This cottage in particular looked a little older structurally than the others but the inside had updated furniture and was decorated very cute! You can tell this place is loved by it's owners! It's not perfect but for the price I thought it far exceeded expectations. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling with pets or on a budget!

We stayed here because it looked adorable in the pics. We tend to really enjoy smaller, more quaint places. We stayed in cabin 6. The first thing that hits you is the smell. It is a musty, strong, unpleasant smell. It takes quite a few hours for you to no longer be able to smell it. Until of course you leave and return after a few hours. The bedding looks older than the cottage. The pillows were unusable. Thank goodness we had our own. The ac unit (a small unit in the wall) looked too small for the area and there was a note to not put it lower than 68 or the unit will freeze and leave us with no ac. Well 68 was extremely hot and uncomfortable. We were lucky it was feb and not July. The wicker couch in our room was missing cushions. The internet was so spotty we gave up trying. The tv got about 6 channels and that as well was spotty. The refrigerator was dorm size and rusty. There were notes everywhere. And the envelope left for tipping the housekeeper must have been used and re used for years. It was almost yellowed.
The pluses are the outside common area where the tiki bar is and the food truck. Another plus is the location. A bike ride from sombrero beach.
This definitely has the potential to be super cute if they would invest some money in upgrading and cleaning.
I would never stay again and would not recommend.

The one outdoor gas grill worked good. WiFi was non-existent, as was any phone help for the WiFi. Toilet paper holder in bathroom is 4 foot off ground, above your shoulder. Bathroom mirror is 1 foot square, surrounded by cork. Bathroom is cheap, but works OK. Bathroom door is about 20" wide. Towels were good.Beds and linens are good. Many cracked tiles on floor. Exterior door seals poorly. Windows do not shut fully. Except for older 3/4 size fridge, sink and old, small microwave, the kitchen is a bad, bad joke. Extension cords run just above sink and faucet. Don't get water on them!!! Countertop space is old, torn up butcher-block (about 1 1/2 square feet only). 3 crappy pans in kitchen. No pans at all for oven. Small stove/oven has 4 little burners on top with some sheet metal liner on right side (to prevent wall burns?? Unsure??) Kitchen utensil tray has all of 3 knives, 1 fork, 2 spoons, 1 serrated knife. Various cheap plastic bowls, plates, coffee cups, etc., are the high light of the kitchen. Ice-maker is just 1 (just 1, not 2 or 3) plastic ice tray that you fill up with water. The kitchen was really a huge disappointment, like a third world country set up. Cheap glass (dining?) table is easy to bump into, always in the way. TV remote works reluctantly. Landscaping was good. There was never any contact with any management or help. There was never any discernible place to register comments on their website.

My boyfriend, fur baby, and I had a fantastic stay at tropical cottages! (Yes they’re dog friendly!) we originally only booked 2 nights and decided to stay another 2 and they were extremely accommodating. Rooms are very cute, and clean. The young man who ran the front desk, and the bar/restaurant while we were there was very helpful and polite. We will definitely be back!
