The "Queen of the Florida Keys", Cheeca Lodge & Spa has been an exclusive hideaway for celebrities, business leaders and U.S. Presidents for over 70 years. Set on 27 private oceanfront acres in Islamorada, Cheeca has been constructed with a porte-cochere entrance, traditional Florida Keys architecture and spirited tradition of “barefoot elegance” -- a term coined at Cheeca. Along with a coffee bar and top-shelf lobby bar, Cheeca boasts three distinctive restaurants: Atlantic’s Edge, Cheeca’s flagship restaurant offering a seasonal fine-dining menu of fresh local seafood, prime steaks and organic local produce, Nikai Sushi Bar and Restaurant offering the Florida Keys’ freshest sushi, Asian-inspired fare and a unique selection of Japanese sake and wine; and family-friendly Mia Cucina restaurant transporting Naples, Italy into the heart of Islamorada serving up made to order artisan pizzas, pastas and salads.

Cheeca Lodge & Spa has garnered appreciation for its meticulous grounds and overall cleanliness, although housekeeping sometimes misses the mark. The service landscape is varied, with many guests encountering warm and helpful staff, while others experience delays and inconsistency. Its amenities, including pools and water activities, are well-received, but calls for updates are noted. Despite the charming atmosphere and prime location lauded by many, concerns over value and dated rooms cast a shadow on the experiences of some visitors.

Being from Florida my family and I have been to many resorts in our state as well as the caribbean. The minute we drove up to the gate we knew we were somewhere special. We were checked in at the entry gate and given our room keys as well as a property map. We reserved a lagoon view room but were disappointed to find that the lagoon was completely drained.

This was rectified quickly with a call to the front desk as a credit was issued and we were moved to another room. Room was spacious, comfortable and spotless. Keep in mind that all throughout the Florida Keys the wearing of face masks is mandatory, they will not let you into a store or restaurant without one. This was strictly enforced and rightfully so. You can remove your mask once you are seated in a restaurant, you do not have to wear one outside on the resort property.

There is a small trading post right across from the street from the resort which was great for snacks, premade sandwiches etc...the resort is absolutely beautiful, the landscaping, winding paths, tiki torches lit at night, fire pits by the beach, all of the pools were beautiful, keep in mind the pools open at 9:00am and close at 6:00pm due to covid. Kayaks, paddleboards, bicycles, golf clubs and fishing poles are included in the resort fee so use them whenever you'd like. We used the bicycles and the kayaks and we had a blast.

Everyone who we encountered who worked at Cheeca were fantastic, the service in the onsite restaurant was excellent. There is so much to do here or you can do nothing and that's how it's supposed to be. The property is very special and I see why folks rave about the Cheeca Lodge. It's as if you're transported to the true Florida Keys feeling. We sat on the beach one day basking in the sun under coconut palms and there was no one in site. Time does indeed slow down and before we knew it the sun was setting.

We have never felt more relaxed in those few days on any vacation we have ever taken. The Cheeca Lodge is that type of place, and they know it. We left the resort on a Saturday morning and the traffic coming into the Keys was brutal. I would suggest to stay during the week as we did as we felt like the only ones there. We did eat meals offsite and they were all fantastic. We went to Robbie's where you can feed the Tarpon ( a must do) we did go to the Sandal Factory for some shopping in Islamorada which is 5 minutes from the resort and it was very reasonably priced for the Keys.

Again, do not hesitate to stay here, ignore any of the negative reviews, it's what you make of it. If you want relaxation, beautiful sunsets, great food and you find yourself not wanting to leave then you've come to the right place.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Cheeca Lodge and Spa. The location allows you to experience the other islands making up the Florida Keys without spending too much time getting there. There are plenty of good restaurants either within walking distance or a short drive. The resort is fairly small and set back far enough from the Overseas Highway to give you the feeling of seclusion. This was our first travel since the start of the Pandemic, so we weren’t sure of what to expect. We were pleased with the manner in which the facility and staff encouraged and enforced social distancing, wearing of face masks and providing hand sanitizer, etc. All the staff were friendly, and we were greeted promptly when we drove in. Valet Parking was not available, though we were allowed to leave our car out front while checking in. The self park lot was within a couple hundred yards of the main building. In addition to the plexiglass and hand sanitizing stations the check-in desk had a small sanitizing machine where our room keys, wrist bands, etc. were placed by the person checking us in prior to be touched by the guests.
We had a two-queen bed resort view room. The room was large with ample storage and bathroom space. The room included a hot tub on the lanai, however, it did not have water jets, so we did not use the tub. There was a decent amount of room on the lanai for sitting and eating. The room was quiet and well appointed other than it did not have a microwave. The HVAC and ceiling fan were quiet and maintain a comfortable temperature. We did not use the maid service during our stay so I cannot comment other than our room was clean upon arrival. Food and drink prices appeared to be on par with similar facilities.
Our stay did not include any weekend nights, so the room rate was reasonable. As this was our first visit to the Keys we spent our days exploring and did not utilize any of the typical resort amenities other than the pools. There is an adult pool which is great for swimming laps. In addition to the rooms not having a microwave, the Wi-Fi was weak. I would recommend Cheeca as a place to stay in the Keys.

The property itself is breathtaking and romantic. The grounds and landscaping are immaculately maintained.
All staff we encountered on property were cheery, friendly, and helpful. Mary at the front desk checked us in—she was efficient and kind. At the bar, Mehmet and Daniel were superstars—they were so friendly and personable and both made great drinks. Axe and Wise at the pool/beach were attentive and quick and made our time by the pool so relaxing. Desiree at the inside bar was upbeat and accommodating and Jade during breakfast service was friendly and fun. Jerry at valet was gracious and kind and drove us in the complimentary shuttle to dinner one night in the rain and picked us up in the rain—he opened the doors for us both times and was very sweet.

We had booked a 1-bedroom golf course view suite. The room itself, while a little dated, was clean and well appointed and large in size. The bed was soft and comfortable with lots of pillows and the bathroom was well stocked with towels and amenities. The screened-in balcony was immaculate, although the beautiful chandelier above the dining table was in need of a good dusting. I did not catch the name of our housekeeper, but she/he did a great job of cleaning our room during our stay.

The one thing that disappointed me was that no one mentioned it was our anniversary during our stay even though I had asked Reservations to place a note on our reservation via email and via phone on two separate occasions before our stay. It was challenging to get a hold of Reservations after I initially made our reservation online via their website. Once I did get a hold of someone via phone, she was kind and patient. I did receive a return email 48 hours after my initial email to the Reservations main email address and after I had spoken to someone on the phone, but I sent my requests via email as well and did not receive another email back confirming the requests. We weren’t expecting anything for our anniversary (in fact, a family member sent an amenity to our room), but I do wish someone at the resort had acknowledged that we chose to celebrate our anniversary at Cheeca.
Also, as part of our room rate, we were to receive 10% off F&B at all outlets. When I tried, upon checking out, to ensure this discount had been included during our stay, the agent seemed unsure and said it was built into the rate. It would’ve been nice if I could’ve seen this on the bill, but I had to take the agents’ word for it.

Apart from that, the stay was relaxing and beautiful. There is a good mix of guests here—lots of couples but some families with young children as well. Everything was opening and functioning at the resort, and we didn’t have a problem getting chairs at the pool as we came down early (around 10AM). We had lunch by the pool both days and breakfast at the restaurant and all of the food was delicious with ample portions. This was our first stay at Cheeca, but we would love to go back!

The grounds are well done; very pretty. Great pool that looks out to the ocean. But you’ll have to get up early to snag a beach chair whether on the beach or at the pool. Nice private pier for fishing. There is a 3 par 9 hole golf course. They had water equipment and other activities to purchase like parasailing. There were beach bike cruisers, but seemed to be all checked out. There was an activity center with board games, ping pong and air hockey, but it was run down and more resembled a dirty all boys fraternity house (wish I had a picture)....but we didn’t hang out there long, just long enough to ask where to find the fishing poles. FYI: they are in a hut on the beach. Speaking of the beach, it’s not your typical soft sand. So no building sand castles or moats etc in the Keys. There are a few restaurants on property so it makes it very convenient, but the food wasn’t awesome-it was edible, but nothing that will knock your socks off. The service was mediocre too. Our room had a king bed, pull out sofa one bathroom, a kitchenette, and a screened in porch, as well as, an AC unit that sounded like a Lear jet every time it turned on. We were all sleepless the first night. We spoke with the front desk and they quickly sent over Andy, their engineer to check out the problem; we thought there had to be a problem based on how loud the push of air sounded from AC unit. He said it did need a new filter, but that’s how all the rooms like this sound since the AC unit is inside the room in the ceiling EXCEPT for rooms 601-617. So imagine the AC unit that is typically outside your home that roars with sound inside a small room kicking on every 20 minutes or so while you try to sleep!!!! Not cool! If any of you have had the opportunity to have a new born in your house you know that when you finally get back to sleep they wake up again! So you never get rest. Well, Andy must have seen we looked like zombies and although the front desk said they are fully booked and couldn’t get another room, Andy said a room just became available in the coveted quiet rooms, but it needed to be cleaned. We walked over and checked it out and said we will take it despite not being able to get into it until late afternoon. We slept like rocks that evening thanks to Andy! Also, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean, but I noticed in both rooms a little more attention to detail in the cleaning area could have been completed; especially in the bathroom. Upon check out they were considerate enough to knock off $700 for our sleepless night. So all in all, I’d say if you go to Cheeca ask for a room with the AC unit outside of the actual room like from 601-617, manage your expectations on food and service, and enjoy the scenery.

I have been vacationing at the Cheeca Lodge ever since I was little with my family. I got the opportunity to surprise my husband with a stay at the Cheeca Lodge this weekend and it was nothing less than spectacular. From the moment you drive on the property you are greeted by friendly staff directing you to the main building. Upon arrival we were greeted with champagne and one of the smoothest check ins we have ever had (and we travel a lot!) Not only are the rooms amazing but all the grounds are beautifully landscaped. Cheeca lodge also offers a variety of activities included like kayaking and paddleboarding and others for an extra fee that is so worth it. Do not hesitate to book here, my husband and I are already planning our next trip back!

Our recent Family vacation to the Cheeca Lodge & Spa was fantastic from the time we stepped on the property. Janell at the front desk was so friendly and professional that she set the tone for our wonderful stay at Cheeca. Every time I walked by her desk Janell would ask me, by name, how our stay was going and is there anything we needed. Sean Bacon who is the Cheeca Director went out of his way to help us extend our stay and make sure we had everything we needed. The property has recovered nicely after the Hurricane highlighted by the new pool down by the water which compliments the beautiful pool they already had. This allowed for lots of pool deck chairs and plenty of seating for those who wanted it in addition to the new Tiki bar so no waiting for refreshments. The views were breathtaking of the ocean and property allowing scenic walks through the grounds and under the Tiki touches every night. . Omar was walking around the pool areas and beach seating making sure everyone was taken care of and comfortable. He was a joy to talk to and always had a smile on his face. We wanted to play tennis one evening and I called down to the front desk and they delivered tennis racquets and balls to the courts in a matter of minutes and we had a blast using their beautiful tennis facility.

Last but not least our room was beautiful and well appointed with all the comforts of home and services of a 5 star resort. The rooms were cleaned every day and the turn down service with a tasty piece of chocolate for everyone was a special touch. I could go on and on about the amazing Cheeca Lodge & Spa but I would run out of space. If you ever get a chance to stay at the Cheeca DON'T pass it up because you wont be disappointed! Say Hi to Janell, Sean, Omar and the entire Cheeca team for me...

I wanted to write this "post Covid" review for others interested in visiting soon. We've stayed at Cheeca numerous times. The property just keep getting better with a new pool area overlooking the sea. Cheeca makes a real effort to get rid of the seaweed that sadly accumulates on shore every day making the beach unappealing and generally stinking up the place. This is a situation that is affecting all hotels in the coast and even as far as Mexico so it is not exclusive to Cheeca, things get worse in the summer.
Over all Cheeca is trying to get things back to normal, very, very few people wore masks at any time in the resort and social distancing was not really a thing. I feel that people that are willing to go and stay in a hotel at this point in time are not terribly concerned with covid or they would stay home. That being said Cheeca did make all their staff wear masks and gloves and they have plexiglass in the check in area, etc.
The only gripe was the limited menus in the restaurant. There is really no reason to have such a limited menu for breakfast and some of the signature dishes of the hotel; avocado toast for breakfast and their lobster grilled cheese for lunch were absent, no excuse. Due to limited seating in the restaurant we were unable to try the new Japanese restaurant. Hopefully these issues will be resolved soon and Cheeca will get the 5 stars it deserves.

I want to share my awesome experience, I decided to get married on Cheeca Lodge because is an espectacular hotel the views are amazing. When I called and spoke with Magda she was really professional and had lot of patience answering my fiancés questions. The weeding and the rehearsal exceded our expectations. The food was top notch, the presentation was impecable and the care to detail was second to none. My wife felt on ease with Magda as she went above beyond making sure everything was taken care of.
Thank you Cheeca Lodge and staff for making my dream wedding a reality. Our wedding day was unforgettable!

Multiple problems with service during a relatively short three night stay. For example the staff did not inform us that there was an elevator to our second-floor room at a remote location. Someone did say something after watching us drag our bags up the stairs. We needed towels one day for an activity we were going to and the staff sent us to five different places for towels none of which had towels nor would they actually go and get the towels for us. There is a DVD player in the room and the in room guide said they had DVDs available in the lobby and when we went thereThey no longer offer that service. There were 8 to 10 small issues like that all pertaining to service throughout our three night stay. For $600 a night at least including room fee, taxes, mandatory resort fee, taxes on the resort fee etc. you could get a very nice room at an oceanfront hotel in Miami Beach that would have much much better service.

We’re disheartened to learn that we fell so short of delivering the Cheeca experience our guests have come to know for generations, but we appreciate the time you took to make us aware of our service shortcomings which we will address immediately. We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered. Our team members should have brought you the pool towels you requested, and our team at check-in provides maps and should have directed you to the elevator. In addition, our bell stand is also able to deliver your luggage directly to your room. We have recently discontinued our DVD service and are currently updating our in-room literature. We hope you will give us another opportunity in the future to show you a much more memorable service experience. Thank you again for your valued feedback.

We had a lovely 4 days at Cheeca, and would have liked to stay longer.
The staff is friendly and professional, the rooms nicely decorated and appointed, the grounds lush and inviting. With the addition of a new beautiful waterfront pool and the immaculate beach, tennis and waterfront fun, there is plenty to do....but also quiet as the dock is a nice length so as to not be loud with the excursion boat or jet-skis.
The food was delicious, decor in the Lodge welcoming and “beach-elegant”. Bar tenders are friendly and attentive. Thankfully, however, you have coffee available in your room—otherwise beware of casually ordering a basic morning cup of joe at the Lodge bar only to discover a $6 charge!
Otherwise, great ambiance, food and service at Cheeca.
