Detailed Reviews
My wife and I stayed In a wheelchair accessible, beachfront unit at Glunz Resort last year, had a great time for 10 days and are going back again this year for 14. When we stepped out of the room we were on, or steps from, the beach, the pool, hot tub, the full bar and a restaurant (Havana Jacks) . The staff was responsive and charming.
Our room was probably the closest to these amenities, the most vulnerable to noise from resort activities, and other guests usually hung out late between our door and the pools. The clientele was mostly adults and very respectful of other guests. The bar had live music several nights per week, typically Caribbean/island and older rock. We loved the entertainment and it’s one of reason s that we are going back. I think that they usually wrapped up the music and word games between 10 & 11 PM.
The resort is about a mile south of the Overseas Highway and most rooms face the ocean to the south. This is far enough away to make road/traffic noise a non-issue. The Island Fish Company is on the main road a block or so east of the Sadowski Causewsy turn-off to Key Colony Beach. It’s a big lively place with a good selection of reasonably priced seafood.
While hotel management can’t take full credit, the weather for our late March stay was absolutely gorgeous. We had no rain, clear skies and temperatures in low 80s every day. I can’t wait to return.

We stayed at the Glunz for a long weekend in February and had the best time. Our flight was delayed so we missed our connection to EYW and arrived a day later than expected and they didn't charge us for that night, which was appreciated. When we finally did arrive (minus luggage), the lady at the front desk answered our questions on where to go to buy bathing suits and even offered to take our clothes home with her to launder! We felt that would be abusing her hospitality so we used the coin operated machines on site, which worked well.
The beach is small but nice and the pool area is great. We were always able to have a spot under an umbrella, if we wanted one. Lots of pool noodles, a sand bucket & toys, and a corn hole set were available for use. Beach towels were always available at the front desk when we wanted fresh ones.
Our room had a kitchen which had tons of stuff (even a nutcracker). Room cleanliness wasn't great (top of the fridge was gross, lots of dust, and several sticky spots on the floor), but not worth interrupting our vacation to deal with. Our doors didn't have a security locks, which would have been nice. We slept well, no noise and the AC worked well.
Parking was a bit of a hassle with the bar/restaurant next door. However, one day when I'd circled several minutes without luck, I asked at the office where to park and the manager went and moved her car for me to park in her spot. Again, fantastic customer service.
The one thing that bothered me was that smoking is allowed everywhere outdoors, even on the balconies and at the pool. It was constant cigarette smoke each day. I wish I'd known about that beforehand.
Overall we had a fantastic trip and would recommend the Glunz, with the qualifier to be aware of the smoking policy. If it weren't for that I'd have given it 5 stars (which I rarely do).

This location and the ones next to it are private beaches - so no extra packed public beaches as most hotels/resorts, and the beach is not 'a short walk' even as some advertise, this is literally RIGHT on the beach. Super nice and makes up for any critique that could be given this place. At max I would say there were 20 people on the beach.
The quality of the bar and the snack/cafe place next door to the hotel (part of the hotel ownership?) is decent, not fine dining but offered more than 'bar food' and a convenient alternative to finding a Starbucks etc. To have this on property was great and made it so we barely left the hotel.
This was part of our honeymoon and we got upgraded to a ocean front suite which was fantastic, with a bottle of wine, some chocolate and a card waiting for us in the room. The suite had a full kitchen and also fresh coffee beans in the fridge plus grinder and coffeepot which was an awesome detail to have. The linens and room were clean. We did have one lightbulb out over the kitchen, but there were plenty of other lights so I assumed this was just a minor oversight... given the rest of the property being well taken care of i doubt this was a "money saving" initative or something intentional, so no big deal and didn't even mention it. Everyone we interacted with was super helpful, friendly, nice, etc especially Dawn at the front desk who helped us through our initial check in and even got us checked in a couple hours early (Thanks Dawn!!!)
There is no salt/pepper/oil in the kitchen, at least the room we were in (coffee beans though!) so if you plan on cooking you may want to grab these essentials while doing your grocery shopping for your stay. There are plenty of stores within 2 miles, a nice pizza/ice cream place called Causeway is right around the corner from the hotel as well.
During our few days there the ocean went through a few different 'changes' (unsure of storms prior to us being there?) but initially had a lot of seaweed on the bottom and the water was not very clear. The third day however I could see my feet in 5ft deep water and everything was a wonderful sea blue color.
TLDR - Great place, definitely will stay again.

We stayed in Havana suite 5 with our family of 4 (ages 8 and 10). This suite is extremely dated, it was clean enough but appears dirty due to the age (brown base boards in the bathroom, gross rubber non slip mat in shower, stains on couch). The Havana suites are in the same bldg as the restaurant and our suite specifically was next door to the kitchen which has a constant loud fan/buzzing sound. The sound didn’t bother us but I could see it be annoying if you aren’t a white noise person. We surprisingly couldn’t hear the band or people at the restaurant at all, that said there was a constant steam of people walking past our room. The beach was perfect for us and the kids, loved that there were chairs to use and nice beach towels always available! The pool was small but never too crowded and having the kayaks available was nice. For the price you likely won’t find anything better, especially with a beach. If the room had some fresh paint and general easy updates to make it feel clean it would go a long way. I wouldn’t pick that suite to stay at again but would try another one not in that building. Havana Jacks restaurant was decent and we enjoyed that their was a shop on site where you could get coffee and breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and polite.

We arrived at 5 PM to check into our room and were told that housekeeping had not been able to get to it yet and so it was not ready for us. I had called earlier in the day to see if an early check in was possible and was told they would let housekeeping know and would give us a call if it was ready. No call came so we figured an arrival an hour past check in time should be fine. No such luck. We received an I'm sorry, we are short staffed and please be patient.
When I was making our reservation I called and asked about availability for our stay. I was told they had one Havana Suite and some hotel rooms available. She said the Havana Suites were much more spacious and recommended those over the hotel rooms, but did note they hadn't been updated as recently as the hotel rooms had been. She called them a "little piece of heaven." What she didn't tell us was that these rooms were extremely loud since they were located in the same building as Havana Jacks is in and that every person that goes in and out of the restaurant walks right by your sliding glass door. Stock transported in and out on dolley's, etc... all go by your sliding door and add to the noise that continued until midnight each night. (Luckily Havana Jack's closes at 11 PM) Additionally, there was no seal around the entrance door to our room so you could hear every single thing outside of that door - every other door that opened and closed, every person that walked in and out, their conversations, etc... I would not put this place anywhere near a "little piece of heaven." I can't speak for the hotel style rooms but if you like to sleep at night don't stay in a Havana Suite.
The beach area is tiny and the pool area is crowded. The hot tub wasn't what I would calll hot, it was warm. Parking was very inconvenient since the stock trucks for Havana Jacks parked us in on two different occasions. Our stay was one disappointment after another - no way will we ever go back there - even with the whopping 10% discount they offer for return guests. We are sorry we left our first resort, which was pure paradise!

We are very saddened to hear about your disappointment with our resort. Please know that we have taken your feedback to heart and will share with our staff. We are constantly striving to make things better and have continuing discussions with our staff. Check in is at 4 p.m. and there really isn't any reason that your room wasn't ready for you when you arrived past that time. We can't do anything at this point but apologize. The person you spoke with was being honest about the room size, comparing the standard room to the Havana Suite. It is unfortunate they didn't mention the location of those rooms. Lots of our guests request them as they have kitchenettes and are some of our most economical rooms but as you learned, they are located in the building that has the restaurant at the back. Again, we're very sorry about your experience and we do hope that you'll come back and give us another chance. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your business.

My wife and I booked this resort for a quick three night getaway and were THRILLED! The rooms are right on the beach and there were plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas at our disposal. Most of the time, it was just the two of us and a few other people.
The white sand beach was in very good condition and the sand did not get hot and burn our feet. There was a nice breeze from the ocean, making it never feel oppressively hot.
We stayed in a King Oceanview room and it was clean and comfortable. The proximity of rooms to the beach made it easy to run back to the room whenever needed.
There are two pools right on the beach with chairs and umbrellas. The pool water was comfortable and relaxing.
Havana Jacks is literally next door and it was easy to get a waterfront table for drinks and food.
The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating from making the reservation to check-in to replacing pool towels and room towels.
This hotel/resort is high quality and hassle free.

We stayed at the Glunz for a week with the whole family in one villa. It was clean and cozy when we first arrived, and so nice to have an in unit washer/dryer and bathroom in every room! The villa was super roomy and comfortable, and it was lovely to hear the ocean waves every morning from outside the master suite window. I have never stayed in a hotel or home so close to the ocean! We were only ~20 ft from the water and the beach was well kept and private. The ocean was so pretty and the two pools were great especially for the youngest in our group (4yo). There were clean pool toys for families to share and one pool was heated, making all-day use easy! Some days the wind picked up, and since the beach faces the Straights of Florida not the gulf, the water was sometimes a bit choppier this time of year. This was not a big deal, but sometimes the gentle waves brought in Portuguese Man of War sea critters that can sting to the water / shore. The Glunz staff did an excellent job of monitoring and cleaning them off the beach every day and it was easy to otherwise avoid them. I only mention these critters because we didn’t know they were here until we arrived in the Keys. Besides the hotel itself, Marathon is a great town to stay in with a large grocery store close by and many fun beach/water excursion companies for snorkeling, jet ski, boats, etc. Food here (at the hotel’s next door restaurant and all the other places we tried) was some of the best I’ve had, especially the fresh seafood! Internet in the villa was slow at times, but this just encouraged us to spend time together instead of on our devices. Overall we would stay here at the Glunz again in a heartbeat and are so, so grateful we were able to stay at such a lovely hotel and place.

This is my second time staying here, the first time I stayed for only a couple days and our room was dirty (This was pre Covid) I told the front desk as I was leaving and they asked me to please give them another try. My husband and I recently stayed there in a suite for 7 days. The first place we booked was the Havana room. It was so dirty that my feet were black the floors are dark so you couldn’t see the dirt but it was filthy. The counters were not wiped down. It looked like it hadn’t been deep cleaned in a long time. The only thing clean was the bedding. Our friends were joining us on the vacation and their room was in the same condition. Their thermostat went out, so they upgraded them to another room and they also moved us for a small fee which was nice but both of the rooms were just as dirty. I went to the front desk and ask them to have somebody please come in and mop the floors and clean the rooms. They’re were half eaten cookies in my room, the stove had grease all over it. The refrigerator hadn’t been wiped down, the sliding glass doors had fingerprints all over it from little kids so I know it hadn’t been cleaned. Even after I had them clean it again they only mopped the floors the stove and counters were all still dirty, but I just cleaned it myself. I am very disappointed in the cleanliness, especially after Covid. They said that they don’t clean your rooms while you’re in it (for your safety) but I would expect it cleaned before I get in it. They say that they’re trying to keep you safe that’s why they don’t clean your room while you’re staying there, I wouldn’t call that safe going into a room that is so dirty from other people. Also you have to get your own linen, your own towels and because it’s a beach resort there’s sand in your room every day nobody cleans it. I think Covid is an excuse for them to not have to clean your room while you’re there and save money on help. Some of the staff were very nice and some look like they didn’t want to be bothered. We talked to a lot of different guests and and they said there’s Airbnb’s that are a lot cheaper and cleaner right in the same area. We will not be back.

Thank you for the review. We are saddened to hear about your 2nd experience at the Glunz Resort. We usually receive great reviews on our property and it's cleanliness. Our Housekeeping policy states that housekeeping is by request only during your stay, it has nothing to do with Covid. Because we don't do daily services we ask that you bring your dirty linens down to the lobby to exchange. Until we can acquire a full housekeeping staff, which is complicated for businesses all over the world, we cannot do daily services for everyone unless requested in advance. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us a second chance and are sorry that you will not be returning.

We are just back from a 4 night stay at Glunz’s in Marathon and had an incredible time.
We had a standard ocean view room with 2 Queens beds on the 2nd floor, overlooking the beach and pool. Staff was super friendly, especially Natalie at check-in and Molly next door at Havana Jack’s, which is also owned and operated by the Glunz family.
We drove down from Orlando after a 5 night, 4 parks in a row stay with our 2 teens. Glunz’s was perfect for our vacation from the vacation - a much needed break from the heat and activity in Orlando.
We arrived on a Wed. Evening and the place seemed pretty quiet. We ate dinner next door at Havana Jack’s. Kids loved the virgin pina coladas.
Thursday was a “down” day for us. We got breakfast sandwiches next door at Java Jack’s and spent the day relaxing on the beach and in the pool. Nice soft sand beach with some broken coral at the shore line. Ocean was beautiful! No stinky sargassum at all!! Yes, there is some sea grass, but that was fine. The staff does use a tractor to clean the beach each morning of any washed up sea grass, etc.
We hit Havana Jack’s for a mid day snack (happy hour food and drink specials) and then back again for dinner.
Friday we drove to Key West for the day. Friday evening we came back to Glunz’s & kids swam in the ocean. It definitely got more crowded by Friday night. We hit Havana Jack’s again for pizza and wings.
Sat. we went on a snorkel trip from Bahia Honda State Park, had dinner at the Island Fish Co. up the road in Marathon, and then back to swim one last time at Glunz’s.
Sun. - unfortunately we had to check out and drove to Miami for a flight home.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Glunz’s. We were happy to stay at a family run hotel rather then a large corporate one. It was our first time in the Keys. Our son said he like it as much as Disney and Universal!
Highly recommend Glunz’s. Location in Marathon is perfect. Real sand beach which is rare in the Florida Keys from what we’ve learned. We will hopefully return in the future!

This is my first time staying at this resort, and even with the busy weekend and some inconsiderate other guests, I am so pleased! The beach is a rare find around the keys, walk in and swim right from the hotel. The resort is like something from days gone by, but well redone and appointed. Just kind of has that classic family vacation feel to it. The have a great pool and hot tub and an awesome tiki bar and restaurant right on the water. A nice workout room is also on site. This is all a in quiet little town and evening walks are just a delight.
The only downside was some folks were loud later than I think a considerate person would be, but the hotel can’t always help that, and I kind of expected it with the holiday and all. They were super apologetic when I mentioned it and they seemed to try their best for sure. My experience is no matter the hotel you’re going to sometimes encounter those types.
They had a coffee shop cafe on site that even sold beer and liquor and great selection of snacks. I had an amazing breakfast burrito and my gal had a crossaint sandwich that she said was the tops. I guess this just opened back up after being redone, so good work to the nice people running that, very friendly and so cute!
The restaurant had live music which was a huge bonus, as that’s my favorite. We ate a variety of things and it was all good and the prices for the keys seemed very reasonable, we had a great waitress both nights and the bar staff were all very good.
Overall I couldn’t be more pleased and am for sure going back, you could show up here for a trip and never have to leave.
They seemed very on top of the mask and sanitation things, even down to clean pens! Good job Glunz!

It was December and the water was too cold for snorkeling. The water is very clear and there are some rocky places that would be a good place to check!
We didn't swim in the ocean this time but in previous years, we did and it was comfortable. The pool overlooks the ocean and may give you a great view and warmer water. We were there in Feb. of this year and a couple of years ago, too.
First time there? I think you're gonna love it. Wonderful location and nice rooms. We had the one with a kitchen on the third floor but the elevator is close by.
Have fun!
