The Pelican Grand Beach Resort boasts a beachfront location with breathtaking views that guests love, alongside a relaxing atmosphere enhanced by live music and comfortable furnishings. However, some travelers find the rooms spacious yet outdated and in need of better upkeep. While the resort's amenities, including a lazy river and private beach access, receive high marks, there are mixed reviews about room cleanliness and maintenance. Guests also appreciate the exceptional service, though the additional costs and noise issues have been points of contention.

A very impressive beach resort. The service is impeccable. The best I’ve ever experienced. I wanted to compare it to the quality of an all-inclusive Caribbean resort but that would be an insult to the Pelican. The service is above and beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. It started when we first arrived - with Robert being extremely patient as we sifted through our luggage to get ready for some pool time before our room was ready. Every pool and beach attendant was so kind and gracious about setting up chairs and towels - especially Frank, Adam and Dante. Our kids would often ask them for something and they were so nice to our kiddos! The beach/pool wait staff was always going above and beyond. We didn’t drink so they didn’t make much money off of us, but they were still so kind. I overheard Giovanna’s amazing customer service every day, and she even gave our kids a special treat on the last day despite not making a dollar off of us during the trip, I don’t think. Daniel was great when we ordered food at the beach and giving us ice waters to keep us hydrated! We will be back… this was one of the best, most relaxing, trips we have had in a long time! I am pregnant and we had 2 young kids so I feel like we were always leaving a mess of our towels at our chair spots. No one ever made us feel bad and was always willing to help. You guys are doing something so right at Pelican - every single staff member we came across was kind, patient and went way beyond our expectations. My only wish list item is more of a kitchenette space or at least microwaves in the room so we could have saved leftovers or had quick/cheap meals to save us some money on eating out. It almost stopped me from booking at this amazing resort.

Dear hollyd787, Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and glowing review of your stay! I’m truly humbled by your kind words about the exceptional service you experienced. It’s wonderful to know that Robert, Frank, Adam, Donte, Giovanna, and Daniel all played such meaningful roles in making your family’s trip so relaxing and memorable. I’ll be sure to pass along your compliments to them and the rest of our team—they’ll be thrilled to know their efforts made a difference. It warms my heart to hear that even with two young kids and while being pregnant, our team provided the support and kindness that made your stay stress-free. That’s exactly the atmosphere we strive to create—one where our guests can relax, feel cared for, and enjoy every moment. I also appreciate your feedback regarding the kitchenette space or microwaves in the rooms. We understand how helpful this would be, especially for families, and I’ll be sure to share your suggestion with our leadership team as we continue to explore ways to enhance the guest experience. We can’t wait to welcome you back for another relaxing getaway. Thank you again for trusting us with your family vacation, and we look forward to seeing you soon! Kind regards, TJ Pierri General Manager Pelican Grand Beach Resort

The Pelican Grand is a wonderful Boutique Hotel. The property is very well maintained, the direct beach access is fantastic and the rooms have a great sitting area, with a door and blind to separate if from the sleeping area. Nice couch, table, TV and balcony. But the best part about the hotel is the Staff. Led by the Manager Jackie, front desk staff Melanie and Adrian, beach attendants Frank and Adam, pool attendant Andrew and server Shaan, they make your stay special. There were certainly others, but these folks we dealt with the most. My three recommendations are to book directly with Hotel as it makes things so much easier if there are travel issues (such as a cancelled flight, as we had). Second, Ubers are easy, fast and inexpensive. Lastly, while the Hotel restaurants are great, and we had both breakfast and lunch there, we always like to visit other local establishments as well. We recommend Shooters, Coconuts, El Camino is Las Olas and Serafina. All fantastic!! The location is safe and we walked several miles each day, both on the Beach and also N Ocean Blvd. Overall, it was a wonderful trip and we will be back!

Dear KeithinPA, What a great review! We are so humbled by your review! I think you touched on it all! It was so nice of you to recognize some of the team members who stood out to you during your visit. Thank you. I agree, the Pelican Grand is in the perfect location, especially being one of the only 3 hotels directly on the beach in the area. While we are at a quieter end of A1A...there are many restaurants within a short walk or Uber in the area. Thank you again, and we look forward to having you back with us for another visit soon! Kind Regards, TJ Pierri General Manager

We took a short family vacation with a 10 year old, 8 year old and 18 month old. We wanted to escape the Canadian winter and relax on the beach. This was absolutely the perfect destination. The view is out of this world- and the resort is designed in such a way that you have ocean views pretty much whatever you are doing. And they are breath taking.

We had the two king suite which was very comfortable for our family of five. They provided us with a pack and play for the baby. The terrace was lovely and watching the sunrise was a big highlight everyday.

We enjoyed the Sunday brunch when we first arrived. Antonio was wonderful with exceptional service. We did find the pricing to be too high for the selection/value of the food. Otherwise we had lunch service at the pool which was great for the kids. Breakfast room service sometimes which was also great.

The water is very clean and the beach is well maintained. The staff set up chairs and umbrellas for the family immediately. Frank at the beach was amazing.

The pool area was also very lovely. The water was warm and the shallow entry was absolutely perfect for our little one. The lazy river was so relaxing and fun.

I treated myself to a facial at pure spa that was absolutely phenomenal thanks to Mariela. It included lounging before and after in an ocean view room with tea and biscuits. Yes it was pricy but worth the experience.

We spent four days, three nights and had a great time going from the beach to the pool to exploring nearby restaurants and shops.

100% recommend and would go back again. The only thing we would recommend for improvement is to have microwaves at least available upon request if not available in every room. It was also sometimes hard to get a hold of the front desk from our rooms.

I stayed here for a couple of nights in an oceanfront suite. If you want to be right on the ocean, this place fits the bill. I wonder if that's what leads to the smell in the room - not quite mildew, but just off, perhaps from the humidity. You'll need a car to stay here - really nowhere to walk in the immediate area, other than the beach.

The room was large, but dated, and showing more signs of wear and tear than I would expect given the prices they charge. Not that I was going to watch much tv, but the tv remote in the bedroom was broken. Battery must have been dead and the latch on the back of the remote was broken so the battery could not be changed. I let the front desk staff know when I left.

My real problem with this place is the way they nickel and dime you and then refuse to address issues. There's the $50+ per night resort fee, but that's really a minor issue.

Far away from the mini bar, on the dresser, were two plastic bottles of water . . . the typical cheap 16.9 oz bottles of water you'll find at any grocery store for a dollar or two, or less in a multipack. I travel extensively and I find that many of the hotels I travel in leave complimentary bottles of water in the room. Occasionally, I've encountered slightly larger bottles with tags around them indicating the price, so you know they're not complimentary. Well, I mistakenly assumed based upon my past travel experiences that these were free bottles. No - Pelican charged me $7 for each bottle.

The hotel texted me to ask about my stay. I responded by text (and also by email) telling them about the water charges ($14). They responded by text and told me they would look into it (they never responded to my email). After I didn't hear back from them further (and the charges had not been reversed), I sent them another text 12 days later advising that I had not heard back from them and that the charges had not been reversed. To date, they have not responded to my follow-up text and it's been more than a week. My conclusion is that these folks know exactly what they're doing when they leave these cheap bottles of water out for the unsuspecting visitor. This is the type of place that lures you in once, drains your pockets of cash, and with enough first-time visitors, they don't care if you never return. Needless to say, I would neither return nor recommend the place. I doubt they'll care. Live and learn - your mileage may vary.

Dear Brad B, Thank you for taking the time to provide your detailed feedback regarding your recent stay. We’re glad to hear you appreciated our oceanfront location and the spaciousness of your suite. However, we sincerely regret that aspects of your experience did not meet expectations. The condition of your room, including the smell and the non-functional remote, does not reflect the high standards we strive to maintain. Your comments about the room's upkeep have been shared with our housekeeping and engineering teams to address these issues promptly. Regarding the bottled water and your concerns about charges, we apologize for any miscommunication and for the lack of timely follow-up to your inquiries. Transparency is important to us, and we make every effort to clearly indicate any charges associated with in-room amenities. That said, we understand how frustrating this experience was and will use your feedback to improve our processes and communication. We also understand your disappointment with additional fees, such as the resort fee, and how they contribute to your overall perception of value. Your comments will be shared with our management team to ensure we evaluate and improve guest satisfaction in this area. While we regret that your stay fell short, we genuinely value your feedback and hope you might consider giving us another opportunity in the future. We would love the chance to provide you with the exceptional experience we strive to offer all our guests. Warm regards, TJ Pierri General Manager

My wife and I travelled to this resort from Tampa/Clearwater on January 29th for three nights, we were greeted? by their staff telling us that because we booked through Expedia we don’t get their welcome drink. Is this the first thing you say to a couple just checking in??? I don’t think so. This is just the beginning of how they have their your hands in your pockets. $52 dollar resort fee per day for what??? There is nothing much to do at this facility as everything closes early, pool closes as soon as the sun starts to go down. I was swimming at around 4:30 one afternoon and noticed the pool heater had shut off as there was no hot water coming out the jet any longer. The staff was looking at their watches as they didn’t want to be there. It is nice to take a later night swim, but not here!!
Then there was the absorbent price they charged for their valet parking $55 per night, only way to park on the premises! When asked about the high fee the resort staff said I would have to talk to the guys running the valet as they set the pricing. I did and they said the hotel is in control of setting the price. The cleaning staff really only made the bed and gave new towels, very little cleaning was done. They also threw out small white clips needed to put on my wife’s travel conditioner and shampoo to prevent from spilling during travel. They didn’t know anything about it!
The resort is beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable, it just seems to be poorly managed and the customers concerns were not taken seriously.

We were excited to stay at a high quality Beach Resort to cap off our Christmas vacation. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. As we arrived, nobody offered to help us with our luggage. Upon check-in we were not given the Wi-Fi password and nobody offered to help us to our room.

When we approached the elevator, the person helping another family with their luggage to their room put that family on an elevator and sent them up. Then, he said we could squeeze in with him on the other elevator even though there was a service elevator.

As nobody helped us to our room, we did not know how to operate the fixtures. We could not control the fan or light as we could not figure out the dials and buttons. Additionally, because we did not know that a switch controlled the outlets, it was several hours before we realized our devices were not charging. Finally, the closet light worked intermittently.

In the morning, when housekeeping knocked, we asked that they make up the room in one hour, as we were leaving by 11:00am. When we returned 5 hours later, the room was not made up, even though I had just seen housekeeping leaving on the elevator.

We complained the front desk did not attempt to solve the issue and they offered to get us cold water, as it was supposed to be replaced when the room was made up. When we got it it was room temperature and we had to take it back to the room.

Dinner was great and the waitress was friendly, even though we had to ask for the bearnaise sauce we ordered and for new utensils which after waiting over 5 minutes I went to retrieve it since the food would be getting cold.

When we checked in, we asked about traffic and lines at the airport. We were assured neither was a problem. We were close to the airport and "FLL is not like other airports, they get you right in and out.' She recommended leaving the hotel an hour before our flight. We were uncomfortable with that and left 1 hour and 45 minutes before our flight. Good thing we did as the lines were crazy long and we needed an airline attendant to expedite us or we would have missed our flight.

Finally, upon check out nobody offered to help with our bags or load the car, even though we had 3 bags and 2 carry-ons.

We are used to traveling, having been many places around the world and many cruises. We are used to paying more for a quality experience. However, this was the opposite. The poor service and lack of attention to customers was more in line with a typical "beach hotel" than a quality resort. If you are expecting high quality, attention to detail and a refined experience, this is not the place for you. It was very overpriced for the experience we received.

The hotel itself is nice, and we were overall happy with the stay. I am giving it 2 stars because of the incredibly awful service we received while there. We booked a package that included a daily resort credit. Reservations advised us we would need to flag that each day in order to receive it. On day 1 we asked about it at dinner and our server looked incredibly confused “we don’t do resort credits here.” After speaking to 3 people including 2 managers, we were advised that we should have been told at check in how the credit worked. This brings me to our check in experience.
At booking I requested a room on a lower floor/closer to the main area as we have a member in our family who has trouble walking long distances, but it isn’t a deal breaker. I knew this was just a request. We received this “oh I see you asked here for something on the lower floor, we put you on the 9th floor, ok?” I said no problem. We were never told where the restaurants were, where the gym was, we weren’t even told where the elevators were. Just here are your keys, floor 9. It was honestly the worst check in experience I’ve ever had.
We also were a bit surprised at the $150/ day incidental fee. Not a huge deal, but seemed a little high given the state of the resort. Everything needs updated, our room door wouldn’t shut or open without putting your full body weight into it, towel hooks were falling off , bathroom door didn’t close etc.
We didn’t have housekeeping clean our room everyday, so by day 4 we left the room around 10:30am and the cleaning service was next door. We asked if they could tend to the room that day with fresh towels, TP, etc. I got an eye roll and a “sure.” Please keep in mind my family is full of blue collar workers, and I’ve worked in the service industry, so I was not in any way rude or disrespectful. Just asking for the room to be tended to. In another moment when we did ask for fresh towels we were told “that’s not my job, you should ask someone else.” It honestly seemed like everyone who works at the hotel is simply miserable, unless they are working for tips. If you are looking for a place that is warm and welcoming this is certainly not the place to go. If they want to pretend to be a luxury, boutique getaway, then they should act accordingly. Given the other reviews, I was shocked with our experience. When we checked out, they neglected to take the daily resort credit off our bill until I was forced to show them my confirmation email proving we had it. They also asked if we had used our drink vouchers that we received at check in (we never received these at check in). Going on vacation shouldn’t have to be that difficult.
I do want to flag we had an awesome experience with Anthony, a server in the O2k lounge. He was wonderful, and we really enjoyed our time with him!

Dear Alicia P, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay at our hotel. While I’m pleased to hear you found the hotel itself nice and had a positive experience with Anthony at the O2k lounge, I deeply regret the numerous issues you encountered. It is clear that our service fell short in several areas, starting with your check-in experience. We apologize for the lack of information provided about the resort’s amenities and your initial request for a room closer to the main area not being properly addressed. Additionally, the confusion over the daily resort credit and the inadequate housekeeping service you experienced are far below our standards. Your comments about the state of the room and the need for updates, as well as the incidental fee, are also noted. We strive to maintain a high standard of accommodation, and it's apparent we did not meet those expectations during your stay. We are currently reviewing your feedback with our team to ensure these issues are addressed and improvements are made. We want to ensure future guests have a much more seamless and enjoyable experience. If you have any further details or would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please feel free to contact me directly. Your feedback is invaluable as we work to enhance our services and facilities. Thank you once again for bringing these matters to our attention, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future under better circumstances. Nice location. Rooms are good. They charge an automatic 22% gratuity on all food and beverage purchases that does not go to the wait staff. $50/day valet parking and $50/day resort fees. When checking in make sure to ask for a room NOT on the 3rd floor unless you want to be woke up at 6am everyday. The laundry for the hotel is right across from room 322. The floor is tile and you hear the wheels rolling.

I am writing this review while staying here right now.
We are a family of four and my father has another room here.
First of all, the service that you get here is more like a motel than a 4 star hotel. My father had a problem with a air conditioning that doesn't warm up at all and he got a cold because of it and they told us after complaining couple of times that they are going to fix it and after 3 days they still didn't.
Room service:
someone knocked the door at 9:00 a.m from house keeping and I asked her if she can come back a bit later because we were getting ready to go out and she told me you had to put a sign outside that you didn't want a housekeeping , like it's my first time that I stayed in a hotel. I told her I need a cleaning but later please and nobody cleans our room later at all.
Resort free: they charge us 54$ a day for a resort fee which is none sense because the resort is outdated and swimming pool area is all dirty and I don't understand why they charge you when they don't even have a basic service at this hotel.
Rooms:
Rooms are outdated and bed mattress and pillows are really soft that I got back pain.
Food:
We had tried their bar and Restaurant couple of times and the food is good but really pricey and they already charge you 22% fir the service

Elevators weren't working as well.

Honestly, if you are paying this much and you get this, you have much more better 5 star hotels in Fort Lauderdale or Miami to stay.
Really disappointing!

This is a great resort overall. Our family of four with older kids enjoyed it. There were things that could be improved and seemed a little dated in the room, but the two room suite was really nice with the ocean front balcony. Be aware that you are not allowed to change in your temperature from 70° and I would prefer it to be cooler than that at times so that was unusual. They need to upgrade their pillows for sure. The location and beach access was great although I paid for the superior suite with the beach service, but it seems like everybody in the hotel had beach service so I’m not sure if that was really extra. The lazy river was very small and had very little current, which was disappointing. I love a lazy river and it was part of what drew me to this hotel but I only went in a couple times. We mostly stayed on the beach. The pool is very shaded though so good for little kids.

Dear Q1516TPjenniferc, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. I’m glad to hear that overall you and your family enjoyed your stay, particularly the oceanfront balcony, beach access, and the convenience of our two-room suite. I appreciate your constructive comments about the temperature settings, pillows, and the lazy river. Your input helps us understand where we can make improvements to better meet our guests’ expectations. I’ll be sure to pass your suggestions on to our team for review as we strive to enhance the comfort and amenities we provide. Regarding the beach service, we aim to make this a seamless experience for all our guests, but I understand your concern about the clarity of offerings associated with the superior suite. We’ll work to ensure this is communicated more effectively. I hope we’ll have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future for an even more enjoyable experience! Warm regards, TJ Pierri General Manager Pelican Grand Beach Resort

It's a short drive to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. They have a lot of restaurants and shops. It's a very cute relaxing area to spend a few hours.

No you sign up the night for the time you want but I’m not sure if superior rooms are different- and if you are not there within 30 minutes of your time they release them.

Other than the hotel restaurants there are several restaurants on the canal which is about a 7 block walk. There is nothing close to the hotel.
