This is a 'lodge' based in Arusha. It is the perfect place to relax before or after a safari. The comfortable rooms are in chalets spaced around the extensive grounds so you can relax, wander and spot monkeys and birds in the trees. My only criticism is, while the food is fine it is not excellent.

A pleasant and comfortable, quiet lodge set in lush gardens where dik dik live. We arrived quite late so didn't have dinner but breakfast service was polite and a generous spread is served. Lovely reception / lounge / bar area in traditional style. I didn't manage to get hot water to run but may have taken time.

We had a fantastic two-night stay at a cozy and quiet place near Kilimanjaro National Park and the airport. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring our comfort throughout our stay. The serene atmosphere, complete with a cozy fireplace, provided the perfect setting for relaxation. We enjoyed spending two evenings by the fireplace, feeling completely at ease. Additionally, the establishment offered delicious vegetarian food options. We highly recommend this place for a peaceful two-night retreat before a safari trip.

Great experience staying at this lodge with my husband and our little one. Very cosy accomodation, clean and safe, comfy bed with a mosquito net. Super green terrotory, perfect for staying with kids, as there is plenty of lovely space, a nice pool and an extra entertainment by the cutest dik-diks just walking around. Great food, especially enjoyed breakfasts. Perfect location as your first overnight stop at the beginning of the big safari trip. As well as super close to Arusha national park, which could be a great option for those who want to do just one day of Tanzanian safari on transit. Highly recommended!

Avoid the unsafe and dangerous Arumeru River Lodge at all costs. On July 16, 2022, during dinner that is included with your stay in the Lodge’s dining room, each of our two guest rooms was burglarized and our prized possessions including our cameras and photographic equipment (lenses, sim cards, batteries and chargers), money, a laptop and other irreplaceable personal property were stolen from our rooms. Our cameras contained sim cards that had all of our photos from the first week of our Africa vacation including photos from my children’s Kilimanjaro trek and my trek to see and photograph the Silverback Gorillas in Rwanda with my wife. Our trip of a life-time was ruined since there are no cameras available let alone for sale in the bush. We ended up taking photos with our older model cell phones which simply sucked. After a few days of futility, we simply stopped taking photos. Imagine 5 weeks in Africa without any photographic gear and no photos of nature and the family. My wife was never the same after our rooms’ were broken into especially since her privacy and sense of security and well-being had been violated. Clearly the burglaries were an inside job since the thieves knew all of the guest rooms would be empty during dinner as all of the guests at the Lodge would be out of their rooms and in the Lodge’s dining room. Plus each room lacked a safe. Yes, none of our rooms had an in-room safe for our valuables as the owner and operator of the Arumeru River Lodge, Tanganyika Expeditions, was cutting corners and saving costs despite the property’s history of break-ins. That’s right, the Arumeru River Lodge has been burglarized multiple times and no precautions were taken by the operating team and ownership. We know because we were inadvertently provided documentation by the owner’s representative that revealed other burglaries. After more than 9 months of fighting with Tanganyika Expeditions, they provided us with a payout a couple of weeks ago that was about half the cost of our stolen property. Best of all, none of the money came from Tanganyika Expeditions as the payout was from their insurance company, Alliance Insurance Corporation Limited, and their poor excuse for a security company, Gardaworld. Not one cent came from Tanganyika Expeditions and they refused to kick-in any money to make up the difference between the pay-out and the cost of our personal property. I’ll spare you the details of the more than 9-month process and Tanganyika Expedition’s arrogance and disdain. They showed no remorse at all for our disastrous experience at their property and they took NO responsibility. You’d be nuts to give Tanganyika Expeditions and the Arumeru River Lodge your business and to roll the dice on this dangerous place. Forewarned is forearmed. Tanganyika Expeditions and their leadership team are rotten, greedy people.

Response from George Ole Meing Arrai, Geschäftsführer at Arumeru River Lodge
Responded 10 May 2023
There were indeed 2 burglaries that occurred in July 2022 at our property. These burglaries were committed discreetly without any violence while guests were dining at the restaurant. After few weeks of investigation, the burglars were apprehended by the police. Contrary the Mr JAYN586 claim, these people were not employees of the lodge and had no connections to our property whatsoever. Since these 2 sad events, we haven't had any new incident. Regarding Mr. JAYN586. - The day after the theft, Mr JAYN586 signed a statement to the police concerning 7 stolen objects (for a new value estimated at approximately $4,000) - Two months later, Mr. JAYN586 wrote a letter contradicting his first police statement and announcing that 32 objects were stolen for a value of more than $10,000. In this respect, we even noticed that he gave another reference (much more expensive) for the stolen camera. Nevertheless, to this day, no invoice or proof of purchase of these allegedly stolen objects has been provided by Mr. JAYN586 Considering these contradictory statements, the insurance company announced its intention to file a complaint for fraud. After weeks of negotiation with the insurance company, we obtained a reimbursement based on the first declaration of Mr JAYN586. Moreover, in addition to this reimbursement, the Arumeru River, the lodge's supervisory company (which does not shirk its responsibilities) and the American agent also paid an additional compensation to Mr. JAYN586 In total, Mr JAYN586 received around $10,000. Arumeru River Lodge still assure the safety and security of their clients

This lodge is so charming, it was a perfect choice. The rooms are very private and spacious with lots of electrical plugs to recharge all of our electronics. The bathrooms are very spacious also, with very nice hot showers. There is a lovely little table and chair set outside each unit that we could sit at and enjoy a glass of wine and watch the birds and monkeys. The complex was about 30 minute Safari drive from Arusha park, which was perfect. The grounds are fenced in and very spacious, lots of room to roam. There is a lovely little trail along the river to walk, stretch your legs and explore. The meals were delicious and the staff was very hospitable and welcoming. I think Talika Emanuelil needs an extra recognition as our server. Talika was especially hospitable, he took time to talk to each one of us as her served our meals, he was truly interested in our conversations. I think servers should take notes from his exceptional ability as a super host. Thank you for giving us a super experience at Arumeru River Loge.

Great place to stay for a stopover in JRO. its a bit far from Arusha but its self contained. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the beds are nice with mosquito nets. The bathrooms are clean and showers are great with hot water. The staff are attentive and helpful. The lodge is quiet and relaxing, the pool looked good. The food is fresh and has good vegetarian options. Big thanks to Noreen, William and Margret.

The lodge was our family stop before we headed off on safari. After a long journey from the UK via Addis Ababa the lodge offered a perfect place to rest ahead of our safari trek. The estate is hidden away down a track and away from the main road, offering wonderful sanctuary. The welcome was delightful and we quickly relaxed into our very comfortable rooms. My wife and I had a large double bed, our children (18 and 15 years old) shared a twin room, also with large beds. We arrived mid-afternoon, providing time to rest a while and try out what proved to be a very chilly pool. Dinner was served buffet style and provided a wonderful array of local food, something for everyone. Breakfast was similarly excellent and followed a very comfortable night plus very good showers. Overall a very special place to be introduced to Tanzanian hospitality
