I want to thank the hotel for the thoughtful way in which they handled a recent booking issue. Due to COVID, we were forced to reschedule a skiing trip - the hotel was very helpful in managing the situation.
We traveled to several Colorado ski communities from Illinois in September to enjoy the fall colors, wonders of the Rocky Mountains, and invigorating weather for hiking. This inn was a trip highlight -- a charming, European-styled gem. Room appointments creatively carried through the Austrian theme. With Vail's European feel -- narrow streets, no cars, shops and bistros, we felt we were in Salzsburg or Brugge. The Gramshammer has three places to dine -- including an outdoor patio -- and a bar with ski theme, open to one of the narrow streets of Vail. Co-owner "Pipi" -- who passed away last year -- was a member of the Austrian ski team. We parked our car in the underground garage (no fee) and never took it out. If you have a vehicle, be sure to drive in from "Checkpoint Charlie" and you will be cleared to drive directly to the garage and hotel. We stayed in a Delux King room, top floor in the rear of the inn, and enjoyed a balcony overlooking the creek that meanders through Vail. We'll be back, even though we are not snow-ski enthusiasts! We met Pipi's spouse, Sheika, now the sole owner, who was at the inn when we were there, and mingled with diners on the patio during lunch. (We enjoyed the smoked buffalo brat! ) Vielen Dank, Sheika! Bis spater! Bill and Terry Murschel…
Sort of COVID responseable. You are paying for location. Under building parking (go to Check Point Charlie), balconies, and an attached restaurant/bar. It is a building from the 60s, with hot water heat. It shows some wear and is more of a B & B. Our room was well cared for, if dated. The bathroom needed some love though. It reminded me of staying with an old family member, or maybe a Golden Girl. Air conditioning consists of a box fan, a ceiling fan, and leaving your balcony screen door open. Awesome location.
Stayed for 5 nights at a 1 studio suite. Loction was probably the best offer of this hotel. 5 min walk to Gondola 1. The restaurant in the first floor has Apres Ski and bands eveyr night that goes as late as 10pm and you can hear the band in the room. Bed was comfortable, room was clean w/ fast wifi and gas fireplace. Front desk was helpful and quick laundry turnaround. I learned that there are rooms you cannot hear the band noise so it is something to consider when you book it. Massage service offered at the hotel is amazing!
Mice in the hotel rooms. What started as a great family vacation turned into a horrible experience. We spent 5 nights here, post Christmas into New Years. On the second day, we found a mouse in our room. We made the front desk aware and they brought up a mouse trap. The following day they sent someone up to inspect the room. There findings were inconclusive, they couldn't prove a mouse was here. The owner, Sheika, is one of the most unpleasant business owners I've ever encountered. She was very unreasonable and not willing to believe there's mice in our room. She manipulated the conversation, not willing to believe us. There was no apology or willingness to simply hear us out and make improvements. This entire situation was mishandled and created so much stress during the holidays. The only solution she came up with was us to gather mouse feces and show her. An unhappy employee told us 20 rooms are with out hot water and Sheika laughed at them. I would never recommend anyone staying here.…
