The Charlie provides exclusive luxurious accommodations to a worldwide clientele, whilst preserving the natural and historical beauty of the property's grounds. The landmark upon which The Charlie resides today was first built & established in 1924 by the Ruth Gordon family. Word has it that numerous movie star legends have roamed these grounds in the past, living out their glorious days to the fullest! Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, and Gloria Swanson are only a few of such legends to name, to whom at one point or another The Charlie grounds were believed to have been a home! In 2002, threatened by re-development, this historical landmark was acquired by Menachem Treivush and has since undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. By carefully preserving historically-scrutinizing details, incorporating the technology of today, and dedicating careful attention to detail, Mr. Treivush has rapidly built up The Charlie into the unique establishment that it is today! Since re-opening to the public in 2008, The Charlie has become known as The Hidden Gem of the legendary West Hollywood!

Detailed Reviews
Every year, I take four to five days to write songs. I look for a quiet place, a location that will inspire me. I go alone, and I write with a guitar, a pen, a notebook, and now a cell phone to record my finished pieces, instead of a tape recorder with a cassette.
The Charlie Hotel is a collection of suites/bungalows tucked away on a historic street, sandwiched between the rowdy Santa Monica Blvd, and the more tony part of Melrose Avenue, in West Hollywood.
The moment I arrived, I was looked after. With a simple cell phone number provided, I could text what I needed to staff , and I would be seen to. I began my stay at The Dylan, which, with its polished wood floors, bookshelves and vintage bathroom tiling, felt like stepping into a quieter time period, when vacation meant reading, sitting, sipping tea, not hurrying.
Bed was firm and pillows meant instant sleep.
I began to write the next day, and fairly effortlessly, unbothered.
In fact, ideas were coming to me so easily, I decided to stay longer, and was upgraded to The Marlene, a larger bungalow space adjacent to Charlie Chaplin's private residence.
I was aware of the presence of others, but never felt bothered.
It was phenomenal, to be alone in a city as large as Los Angeles, to feel safe, looked after, yet entirely in solitude.
Walks around the area fed my imagination. I can only hope the City of Los Angeles realises the treasures it has here, and chooses to preserve and protect the little bungalows and Art Deco apartments in this neighborhood.
My stay rendered 10 songs.
And leaving felt a bit heartbreaking. I'd have lived in that bubble much longer, had the real world not summoned. And so, reluctantly, I recommend The Charlie, but only because it is so wonderful I wished I could keep it my secret, and afford to go there again and again.
Thanks to the wonderful, kind and helpful staff and to those who keep this one of a kind place alive. You are indeed a family I could come home to, and here's hoping I can, with some frequency.

We have been using The Charlie weekly for almost 5 years. Recently needed an extended stay with our dogs for surgical needs. Once again, Dylan, Kayse, Arturo and Faye knocked it out of the park. Kayse even offered to watch out dogs for us while at appointments. They were super flexible in adjusting our reservations as the surgery and check up schedule kept moving. They even allowed us to leave our belongings in the room and left it empty when we left and were returning a few days later. Give The Charlie a try. I feel very confident you will have a wonderful stay.

Our stay at the Charlie was a truly unique and special experience.
For any traveller looking to stay in a hotel that offers something more, that’s unique, special and filled with personal interactions and service from the staff than this hotel is your number one destination.
Nestled off Melrose avenue, the location is perfect, the cleanliness was above standard and the customer service was exceptional.
We stayed in the Marilyn cottage and it’s a truly unique space. The lovely living room was super comfy and the kitchen was big and offered everything you need to cook a meal. Upstairs there was two rooms, the master room was incredible with the high ceilings, lots of cupboards and the bed was incredibly comfy.
What made our stay that extra special was our interactions with the staff, everyone was friendly and positive and full of chat. Special mention must go to the two ladies at reception, their interest in ensuring we had a perfect stay was something we valued truly. They went above and beyond to ensure our cottage was perfect and each interaction with them was engaging, supportive and positive.
The hotel is a must stay if you’re looking for a hotel that offers more than just a room.

We stayed at The Charlie for four nights in early Sept 2022. While central to everything, this charming property is an oasis of quiet and calm. Parking is secure and free, check-in was a breeze, and the rooms spotless and stocked with amenities. The roomy, two level "Oscar" included a private patio, comfortable sitting room, a full kitchen (stocked with everything we needed), a 1/2 bath on the first floor, luxe linens and a very comfortable king-sized bed. The "mini-bar" offerings included coffee, tea, bottled water, soft drinks, and snacks. The whole property has the feel of a small, European village. One evening, we sat on the central patio, sipping wine and eating grapes straight from the vine. This private and beautifully appointed hotel far exceeded our expectations.

+1
I rarely give a property an excellent rating but this was well-deserved! I traveled to the area for work and had booked the studio room. When I arrived to the parking area several hours before check in, I was warmly greeted but the lovely woman in the office (yikes I am forgetting her name now!) and offered a fresh cup of coffee to be brought out to me up on the outdoor patio/terrace while I waited for my room. A bit later, I was upgraded to one of the one bedroom, two story suites which was phenomenal! The suite (or apt really) has a full kitchen, wash and dryer, full living room, central heat/ac, queen bedroom, full size bath upstairs and small bathroom upstairs. It also has these lovely stained glass windows and was tastefully decorated throughout...it was the best! I’d not stay anywhere else except the Charlie, in the future!

An adorable fairytale-like setting within a wonderful neighborhood. Such a peaceful and magical hotel. We were nervous about traveling during the pandemic, but the hotel was quiet, clean, and staff was very accommodating. We look forward to staying here again during future trips!

Happened upon The Charlie when looking for quirky places in Hollywood area. This is a great location and offers huge rooms for a relative bargain. We stated in the "Gregor" which included a living room (with somewhat rickety sofa bed used by our 2 kids) as well as a small kitchen with dining area plus a large bedroom. Even had a washer-dryer and dishwasher. One can walk to Melrose and other W. Hollywood and BH sites if desired. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating.
Note that there is no F&B on site so you need to self-cater, order or eat out. We happened to stay during a very cold and rainy day yet the rooms had good heat and we were comfortable. 600+ channels of TV entertainment as well. Lovely garden, table and fire pit as well. Wish we could have stayed longer. RECOMMENDED.

Wonderful hotel in great location. Fabulous staff, Marina and John are the best! Very accommodating and really take care of their clientele! Rooms all have a personality of their own, beautifully appointed with many amenities not found hotels. We have been enjoying The Charlie for several years!

The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The location can’t be beat and the staff was super friendly. The beds were soft and luxurious. The only thing I was turned off by was they charge for water and snacks. I’ve stayed at other hotels for a fraction of the cost that offered these items complimentary and even had a gift basket with wine and gourmet snacks waiting for us when we arrived so I was surprised to see only a cup with tea bags waiting for us when we arrived at the Charlie. Charging for cheap snacks seemed pretty tacky, especially with the room was almost $1000/night

We discovered The Charlie through a travel blog my husband happened upon. So we decided to do a staycation there and we were thrilled we did! The minute you pull into their secured inner courtyard to park, we felt transported to a little town in Europe. Our room, “Charlie” was enchanting and quirky, had warmth and style with high end finishes. Can’t say enough about how great it was. If you enjoy unique places to stay, not run-of-the-mill hotels, then you will love The Charlie! Very walkable neighborhood where you will find great restaurants. Such a fun weekend!

The shortest walk to the Sunset Strip is straight up Sweetzer, a distance of 0.7 miles. 75% of the Sunset Strip is a mile or less from The Charlie.
Sorry, you submitted that question months ago and I just got it today. But I didn't have an answer for you anyway. I guess you would just ask when you make your reservation. (Maybe by now you have already been there and know rhe answer.)
ya each room has its own patio where you can smoke. Also there are two common space areas where you can smoke.
