Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Ayres Hotel Seal Beach garners appreciation for its cleanliness, although a handful of visitors have had less satisfactory experiences. Its atmosphere is often described as cozy with superior bedding, despite some remarks about an outdated feel.
Located conveniently for those looking to explore local dining and attractions, including Disneyland and Knotts, the hotel also offers spacious, clean rooms with plush beds, though a few have reported unpleasant odors and maintenance issues. While opinions on value vary, with some guests commending the affordability and free breakfast and others questioning the room rates and service quality, the hotel's amenities like the complimentary breakfast and helpful staff are generally well-received, even though there are occasional service inconsistencies and missing features like patio door screens.

Amazing breakfast staff. Carolyn was a refreshing and delightful personality in the mornings to get your morning started. Food was also well prepared, fully stocked, fresh. Clean cooking and preparation area.
Spacious and clean rooms with plenty of seating area
hotel rooms were super quiet allowing me to sleep in as long as I wanted
camera monitored parking
All staff members I saw (front desk, kitchen, housekeeping) were using personal protective equipment at every moment throughout my stay.

We were greatly surprised by 2 things which we found hard to tolerate: 1.) At check in, our credit card was charged for the entire (3 night) stay and another $100 for incidentals was run on the card; to say that this is unusual is an understatement. Yes, we have always left our credit card on file wherever we are staying, we are baby boomers and experienced travelers, yet we have NEVER been charged for rooms in advance unless we are prepaying regardless of what state or country we are visiting. When I brought this up with the desk manager, I was told that this is the corporate policy of Ayers Hotels. I asked him if the people who stayed in their hotels were notorious for slipping out in the night and he assured me that, no, this was just their policy. 2.) No in-room housekeeping. I have never been informed daily housekeeping would be unavailable. I don't know whether this had something to do with the pandemic, but we stayed 15 nights in hotels during our recent California trip and maid service was always provided in each of the other four (4) hotels. At the very least, even if dusting, vacuuming and making the bed are not available, a minimum in the hospitality industry requires a daily emptying of waste baskets and change of bath linens, upon request. Ayers still has some work to do to be able to claim the title "European boutique hotel."
We felt that the staff was very accommodating and pleasant during our stay. The lobby, pool, breakfast area, common areas and grounds were all kept in nice condition. The breakfasts were very nice.
Overall, because of the two stated issues, I would probably not recommend Ayers to a friend nor would I seek one out in the future when traveling in the area.

After our entire family caught covid during a holiday gathering, we could not return to our house where my elderly mother was staying with us. So we spent 9 nights at the Ayres Hotel Seal Beach. The room was very comfortable and spacious, and it was very quiet over the new year holiday even with many guests visiting for the Rose Bowl. We enjoyed great value with the generous hot breakfast daily, and fantastic kitchenette area in the room with larger refrigerator and microwave and space to store and prepare food. Easy access to Seal Beach, to wonderful playgrounds in Rossmoor neighborhood, and the many restaurants in the area for takeout. Overall the best home away from home given the circumstances. Thank you!

So I understand early checkins are a thing of the past, no big deal. When we arrived we were told our room was finished being serviced, due to staffing shortages due to holiday, they will do their best, and maybe we can get our room in about 30-40 minutes. When we asked if we can sit in the lobby or the breakfast room to have our lunch we picked up, eyes were rolled, looks of disgust and was pointed "yeah, I guess you can sit over there". So 45 minutes later, I asked where our room was so I decided to take an adventure and walk around. Seeing that our room had no-one servicing it for over 30 minutes, I went back and said "I am not trying to be pushy, but you said our room is being serviced and no-one is there and when I found a housekeeper, they told me oh it was already done" eyes rolled again, girl at front desk on more than one occasion stated "well I only work front desk I don't know what's going on, let me see" Then about 5 minutes later, she shamefully walked over to us and said "well I have bad news and every more bad news" we can't rent you your room tonight they said there is a maintenance issue and you can't stay in there until tomorrow. My supervisor will allow 20% off for tonight and we can move you tomorrow to your room if it is fixed" Now this would normally not be an issue, but why wife is mobility challenged, uses a walker, has a bad knee that locks up and can't do a tub/shower combo. She needs shower only or ADA roll in shower. Ours was the ADA roll in shower. out of 122 rooms, this is the only ADA roll in shower and the other only shower room was occupied. She offered to show me the room next door the ADA tub room and to move us next day. She said it is a lower tub and hope it works out. After we went in, she exclaims "Oh no they lied to me, this is not a lower tub I don't know what they are talking about, oh well, what do you want to do? She did even offer to take pics of the room to show my wife to see if it was compatible. At this time (no discredit to her, she was doing all she could) I started calling my normal hotel. Now, we have never stayed at Ayres, I had a corporate rate for work and was excited to try them out. But I felt we were looked down upon because my wife was partially handicapped and we were dressed pretty casually. after sitting for almost an hour waiting for our room, they knew we were there waiting to have the front desk so non responsive until I actually inquired was besides me. I felt we were judged and treated poorly. When I found our normal hotel was available and asked if we needed to leave can we cancel she said "sure let me do that" and then walked away. No apology no sincere care about our inconvenience. I had my wife who was struggling as it was, I unloaded our car of 3 days worth of luggage and necessities to be treated as "oh well too bad so sad, next" Never again! I will be writing a formal complaint to corporate.

Second time staying here for a weekend for a Dragonboat race at Marine stadium, a short drive away. Clean, safe, helpful staff, free parking, shopping plaza nearby. Breakfast is ample buffet with chefs cooking eggs and griddle foods onsite. Only suggestion is to have hot oatmeal instead of instant. Air conditioning is strong but noisy in the room. The pullout sofa bed was comfortable enough but did have to call for bedding. Despite the signs in the bathroom about reusing the towels that are hung up, all the towels were replaced unnecessarily. Overall comfortable enough I would stay again if in the area.

We have come here a few times, usually for one night stay-cations. Staff is super friendly and responsive. This time we came to enjoy the pool, and though it would be nice if it were heated, it was still great.
The rooms are showing some mild wear & tear, but are comfortable and roomy. We stayed in a Deluxe King Patio Suite, which opened directly to the hotel's large patio where they have pretty lights and lots of tables and chairs. We enjoyed a take-out dinner and their buffet breakfast just outside of our room, which felt very homey and lovely. Our room also had a deep tub, which was appreciated!

This round tho hesitant to give them a second chance was well worth it. From the cordial and warm welcome (we see you've stayed here before so welcome back-didn't stay but they didn't treat us any different), to always a hello from any staff walking by, keeping the grounds and pool area refreshed and cleaned throughout the day. The ladies and gentlemen at breakfast service bust their butts and people are just so savage and demanding yet they do it with a smile (fresh cooked eggs pancakes sausages and hash browns omg hash browns my fav).
I would be amiss to not celebrate Mimi at the front desk. I must have bugged her 100+ times during our visit with all my questions, to asking to see a room for our next visit, to inquiring about many things at the location and area, and she was always doing it with a smile. Mike is a true asset to the location and if it wasn't for her, I don't know how our stay would have been because she made it the best of the best we have ever had!
Rooms was spacious comfortable and well laid out. Only reason I didn't give 5 is circulation in room isn't the best felt very musty and humid when we opened the door and no fan or cooling in the separat toilet & shower area.
We came to visit friends and family and host a 3 day streaming and they assured me I could hook up the laptop to our room tv and sure enough the equipment works just fine with a large size TV.
Got an amazing corporate rate and since we had an unfortunate situation last year, I also used a free night courtesy of the manager and so glad we decided to take a leap of faith and try them out. This is our new compound when we come to the area. Thank you Ayres I am a believer!

Overall, the property was clean and well maintained. Breakfast is good although they need to have more employees in the kitchen - it was a lot for one poor person to do!!!
However, the hotel was very inhospitable for groups.Staff wouldn't allow our group of parents and teens to sit and chat in the lobby and kicked us outside to the patio at 9:30pm. Then the security guard rudely made us leave the outside patio (where we were told to go when kicked out of the lobby) at 10. Quiet hours should not mean that zero interaction among guests can happen. They wouldn't even allow us to use the breakfast room that was otherwise empty. What are groups of people supposed to do if they want to socialize and enjoy each others' company? The next night 6 girls and 5 parents met in one of our rooms as we had no where else to go in this unfriendly hotel. The security guard started knocking on our door and harassing us even before 10 pm. We are not a quiet group, but we were certainly not unreasonably loud. We were talking and laughing and sharing stories -these are the reasons people go on vacation together!!! Our club has used Ayres hotels many times over the years; in fact, I recommended we choose Ayres this time because of the positive experiences our club has had at other Ayres hotels in the past. We will definitely not be returning to this location - the staff did not make us feel welcome or wanted.
