The Ambrose Hotel garners appreciation for its spacious and impeccably clean rooms, complete with luxurious touches like robes and high-end decor. While the hotel's location is cherished for its proximity to local eateries and tranquil vibe, some travelers feel the cost, particularly the pricey parking, doesn't fully align with the amenities and service provided. Nonetheless, the professional staff and Zen-like atmosphere, along with well-regarded amenities such as outdoor spaces and complimentary refreshments, contribute to a serene and inviting experience for guests.

We chose this hotel because it was close to where people we were visiting lived.
The room was clean and spacious. In room amenities included luxurious robes (no slippers), l'occitane (soap, shampoo, conditioner, and moisturizer), hairdryer, wifi, and bottled water.

There is no restaurant here, but the Tartinary is across the street and there are many restaurants and coffee shops nearby. I saw someone getting a Carvel delivery! There is unlimited coffee and tea. The staff were kind enough to bring a tea kettle to our room. There's also complimentary beer and wine from 6 to 8pm. The outdoor spaces with heaters and a fireplace are quite charming. There are bikes available (we didn't use them).

Housekeeping is available upon request - they will not automatically freshen your room or change towels.

The staff were friendly and helpful and wore masks.

Luckily, the neighboring room wasn't too noisy because the door that connected the rooms was definitely not sound-proofed. The only other issue was with the bathroom: The door was difficult to close and the shower floor was falling apart and poorly installed. It had a linear drain at one end, but was built with a slope in the middle so the grout cracked and water pooled in the center. They must be aware of this issue because they had a mat directly over the cracked grout.

Our booking confirmation says our room was 325 sq ft with city view and bathtub. There was no bathtub and the the view was of an alley.

We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Ambrose in Santa Monica. From the moment we walked in and were warmly greeted by the front desk staff, we knew we had discovered a real gem. The Ambrose is centrally located in Santa Monica, near enough to the action of 2nd and 3rd street but far enough away to be truly relaxing. The hotel itself is lovely, with comfortable common areas, tasteful furnishings and cozy outdoor spaces with multiple heaters. As far as amenities go, we were delighted that the Ambrose offers a generous complimentary continental breakfast with lots of healthy choices available, a nightly happy hour, and a free short range shuttle service. The room itself was well appointed with comfortable beds, quality linens and high end bathroom products. By far the most memorable part of our stay was the guest services and our treatment by the front desk personnel. We especially want to thank Greg, the classy professional front desk manager, Armentria, the lovely young woman that checked us in and out and Peyton, the vivacious, outgoing young lady that went above and beyond for us(more than once). The Ambrose and its staff have completely won us over. We will definitely return on our next trip to LA.

Thank you LookwhatIfound1 for your kind review! Although the hotel is a beautiful and special hidden gem in Santa Monica you pointed out the most important part and thats the staff. We are so fortunate to have employees such as Peyton and Armentria led by Greg at the Front Office to assist with anything you might need. Thank you for recognizing them! We can't wait to welcome you back in the near future!

Never stayed at hotel (even during Covid) that didn't offer house-keeping. When I asked the front-desk if I could have the trash in my room changed while I was out, I was more or less told to do it myself as housekeeping isn't included for stays of 3 nights or less. The fitness center is limited to one guest at a time with no way to reserve a time and they don't limit how much time a guest can spend working out. I just gave up waiting and made other plans to work-out. Basic toiletries like body lotion or a shower cap aren't provided and there's no room service to speak of. Most of the staff seemed helpful with the exception of one lady who kept addressing me as "sweetie" in a patronizing manner, not sure why the standard sir or mister wouldn't suffice. If you're a discerning traveler or care about value, I imagine you could do better.

Thank you adore65 for taking the time to provide constructive feedback about your stay. Although we are quickly adapting to the changing COVID restriction local and state health officials have recommended, I understand why some of the services and amenities provided might be different than other hotels you might have visited. We do have all the toiletries you mentioned above available via contactless delivery 24 hours a day. Please let anyone of our Front Desk staff know and we would be more than happy to deliver those items 24 hours a day. We as well look forward to allowing more people to enjoy our incredible fitness center featuring our Peloton bikes. Hopefully, you were able to take advantage of our beach cruisers and enjoy a workout in the beautiful Santa Monica weather! Thank you again for your feedback and safe travels!

Stayed here two nights last week while a friend was in the hospital. I would be happy to stay again.

This is a clean, comfortable, hotel without all the pretense of the much more expensive places on the beach (which I don't care about as I live near the beach myself). Location involves much less traffic hassle than most parts of Santa Monica or West Los Angeles, but very close to several hospitals, medical offices, and other Santa Monica businesses.

Self-parking is easy, bicycles available (didn't use them; no helmets), excellent morning coffee and evening wine/beer service.

Our room was large, with a balcony; it's so nice to be able to open the doors.
The king bed was comfortable, there's plenty of light in the room, and the bathroom is enormous.

Fairly costly compared to chain hotels but much less expensive than the big name beach resorts in Santa Monica

For some reason (maybe because I was in there working a big part of the day) housekeeping did not come in. I didn't bother asking about it.

Tartine, an excellent bakery/cafe, is right across the street in an old church.

Thank you Q4449PDwendyl for the time you took to write a review. We hope your friend is recovering well and you can join us again in the future on vacation! Please forgive me if it was not explained upon check-in that in order to reduce person-to-person contact we have reduced housekeeping service to once every three days. We are available upon request to send up fresh items and remove trash when needed. We look forward to getting past this pandemic and adding back services and amenities when the local government allows for it. Thank you so much for understanding and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future!

We went to The Ambrose Hotel to celebrate our anniversary and we had such a wonderful time. This was our first time here. Even during COVID times things are very seamless and in good condition. The hotel was very clean and the rooms are really nice. We had a beautiful view and a balcony. We also were able to attend a happy hour at the bar area and we had the pleasure of meeting Shima who works for the hotel. She was such a pleasure to talk to and very polite in getting us silverware and things to eat out dinner that we had ordered in. I couldn't recommend this place more! Thanks for such great stay!

My daughter and I came for one night in Santa Monica and loved the property immediately upon arrival. The size and style of the hotel are warm and welcoming. We were greeted by Inga at the front desk who, along with Rooms Manager Hillary, very kindly helped us sort out a frustrating snafu with our booking through Agoda. My experience with Yusef at Agoda was not as pleasant and I recommend booking directly with the property if at all possible. Besides the stellar customer service, some other highlights include: the coziest robes that we wish we could take home, wonderful high-thread count sheets, good down pillows and black out curtains that, coupled with a mostly silent morning, allowed for a late sleep-in (thanks to a late check out). The parking fee is high but consistent with other LA properties and there is underground parking with Tesla charging and a security gate for added safety. I appreciated the light weight and well-functioning luggage trolleys that made bringing extra bags from the car to the room a piece of cake. I didn’t notice any porters available to assist with bags (I imagine they are available upon request), but I honestly prefer to do it myself. There are great places to eat within walking distance (there was a long line at Tartine across the street), and we had a great meal from Socala and passed lots of other restaurants to try next time. The overall vibe of the hotel is calm, quiet, cozy/chic ambiance with warm and inviting guest service and amenities. We will definitely come back again and can see making this our regular spot every time we are in L.A.

During the Covid-19 pandemic things were uncertain. The staff at the Ambrose worked hard to make things seem as normal as possible. I heard another guest complaining about the rooms being cleaned only every four days (or whenever you requested it), and I was stunned. Fewer people entering your room right now is better.

They should make a deal with the bakery across the street and have continental breakfast available, though. That would be an improvement. (The bakery was so popular that there was a line past their parking lot most mornings.)

The design of the shower door is not perfect and most of the time there was a puddle on the floor after a shower. Like many newer buildings the sound transmission room-to-room is more than you might hope for. There's not much they can do about that.

The common spaces are very nicely appointed and designed. Comfortable to work, nice to have a meal in, comfortable to hang out in with a visiting friend.

It is a short walk to the Montana shopping street and not too far to the Third Street Promenade and the beach.

After arriving in Santa Monica to a very disappointing Airbnb, I set out to find a place for my daughter and I to stay. We were in town for a week for a scheduled surgery for my daughter, and not familiar with the area. I walked into the Ambrose and was greeted by Hillary, who was warm and welcoming from the start. She happily gave me a quick room tour upon request, although I was pretty convinced just walking through the outdoor patio and into the lobby that I had found the right place. Hillary made me feel like a guest she had been expecting and we easily booked a room for the week. She was kind and always ready to provide information or just chat a little, very welcome since I was mostly on my own as my daughter was recovering. Then there was Alfred. He had the early morning shift, and by day two he greeted me with a fresh cup of coffee exactly as I had asked for it the previous morning. He was also warm and kind and easy to chat with. I could see that it was not just me, Hillary and Alfred offered the same attention and kindness to all the guests. They both went above and beyond, helping with microwaving a heating pad multiple times every day, and simply showing care and compassion. The hotel was impeccably clean, comfortable and quiet. I would stay there again and highly recommend the Ambrose. Going forward, I will definitely seek out other Independent hotels wherever I travel. Thank you again to Hillary and Alfred for outstanding service!

From the moment I entered The Ambrose in Santa Monica, I felt that this hotel was extraordinary. How right I was. From the warm, professional and efficient staff and the spacious, well laid out rooms to the exquisite breakfast buffet and on-the- house wine and beer served each evening before dinner, a guest feels pampered and cared for, with every request or question immediately seen to in the most courteous and gracious manner.
There is a workout room with excellent equipment that is spacious and sunny.
The dining room is light-filled and comfortable.
I have traveled for all my adult life. I have always stayed in five star hotels. Extraordinary, The Ambrose Hotel offers a comparable experience. I highly recommend it. I also want to mention that this is the first review of any hotel or restaurant I have ever written.
