Pros: centrally located, rooms are recently renovated, the decor is fun and hipster, TVs are really nice, the restaurant has decent food.
Cons: the pool/hot tub was closed during our stay (one of the big reasons why we wanted to stay here), service isn’t great, games at restaurant were restricted during the day. Would give it 3.5/5.

When making my reservation, I requested the government rate. I had called the hotel directly. The person taking my call said they do not have government rates. She seemed to be not up to speed on the hotel information and like she was reading off of a script. As the hotel was near my destination, I made the reservation anyway. After checking out, I was informed by several of the persons that had booked at the same KInney SLO for our meeting that they had received a government rate in the $90 range. I had been charged $132+ one night and $139+ the second night. Also, when I went to the hotel restaurant, the girl taking my order seemed to not be well experienced in taking orders. As I waited for my meal, I ordered a beer, a well known brand. She had to go to someone else to see what brands they have. Then although she was manning the bar orders at that time, she wasn't able to open the bottle - maybe too young? When she brought me the bottle, it was the wrong one. I just wanted out of there so I just took it. Overall, the hotel and restaurant staff was lacking competency. On the good side, the room was clean and quiet, with parking.

Very cool new hotel. Great rooms with a great ocean vibe. Very cool amenities for the kids and adults alike, games galore in the the lobby/restaurant.

You will see lack luster reviews of the restaurant, and the staff in general, but it appears to be growing pains to me, and the lack of good management, the entire staff seems a bit disorganized...no flow, just kind of all over the place. It’s definitely funky that you have to go to the bar to order, and they seem to struggle at best to take your order properly.

The presentation of the food was beautiful, exactly what you would expect when paying above average prices. We had the Ahi salad, the President’s Pretzel Board, and the fish tacos. While the Ahi salad was good overall, it was sad that they use frozen ahi instead of fresh...obviously due to the fact they probably don’t sell enough “yet”, to bring it in fresh, but that definitely hurt the dish, and while the ahi tasted ok, it looked horrible. The “President’s” Pretzel Board was good overall, but the star of the board, was a frozen, stale, inedible pretzel, and they served a horrible cheap melted cheese to dip it in. Looked good, but very poorly executed. Word of caution, before you eat the salami, take the outer skin off! It’s inedible as well. My wif enjoyed her tacos. This food gave me flashbacks of watching chef Ramsey taste test food at failing restaurants, so close yet so far, most crashing and burning due to cutting corners using cheap components...that was my exact experience here...fix that, and this place will be golden.

Can’t wait to bring the kids here for all the games and great rooms, but not sure we will eat at the restaurant again, you can get way better food for the price nearby.

The Kinney San Luis Obispo has been wonderful to work with in booking group rates and room blocks for a conference that my employer is hosting in the area. I will absolutely be booking with them again for our conferences in years to come, and will always consider them for personal travel needs as well.

I didn’t use the pool, but my experience with hotel pools has been that they are all heated, without exception. I would give 10 to 1 odds that this pool is heated.

Thank you for reaching out to us. As of last year with our recent room refresh, the decision was made to no longer allow pets here at the Holiday Inn Express San Luis Obispo. Just a short drive away in Pismo Beach, we have... More
