Terranea Resort is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, enhanced by live music and thoughtful personalized decorations that craft a delightful ambiance. While some guests question the value for money, the resort's plentiful amenities, including serene pools, a luxurious spa, and scenic hiking trails, are frequently commended. Room experiences can be inconsistent, ranging from immaculate and cozy to those needing maintenance.
Service reviews are mixed, with reports of both commendable personalized attention and occasional lapses in promptness. The resort's cleanliness and idyllic location are consistently praised, offering both tranquility and stunning views.

Detailed Reviews
The grounds are luxurious but I wish that Terranea staff provided 5* service... Due to COVID, the resort is generally under staffed and the amentities lack a high-end feeling. There is no valet and the staff at the entrance of the hotel will not assist with luggage at all. The spa, spa pool and cielo adults pool are all still closed. The gym is by appointment only (in 45 minute time slots) and guests in the gym are still required to wear masks. Adult guests at the main pool were required to wear wristbands, which cheapens the experience. At only 37% resort capacity, it was embarrassing to sit at the pool and watch staff chase down adult resort guests for wristbands, while any child or teenager is running around the pool grounds without wristbands (or masks). The Terranea needs to provide an enhanced guest experience by simply recording the guests that enter the pool area and keeping track of them in a more personalized way. There are no poolside waiters and the food beverage menus are extremely limited. Canned beverages only at the pool. If you need housekeeping services, forget it. There is no daily maid service and the resort phones are not answered with reliability. If it wasn't for the beautiful grounds and vistas of Palos Verdes, we would never return.

Staying at the Terranea was truly a treat overall, which is why I’m giving four stars. Everyone at the resort greeted me with smiles. The scenery is unbeatable. It’s ridiculously expensive (e.g. $30 glasses of wine, $30,000 for a/v setup, thousands of dollars for outdoor lighting), but you’re paying a premium for the venue and the views.
That said, for the prices we paid, the service fell below expectations. I was originally given the farthest room in the building from the conference facilities, right by the Vista pool (no privacy and loud). I immediately called and asked to be moved to a closer, quieter room. The front desk said they’d have to ask my group coordinator and would get back to me. Two hours later, no one had called me or my group coordinator. The person I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about. Frankly, I think they just ignored my request.
Housekeeping was a disappointment. No one cleaned my room on my second day, despite my being out of the room for over 3.5 hours in the morning and making sure to remove the “Do Not Disturb” sign. When I called for housekeeping service later in the day, the front desk said only turndown service was available after 4pm, which I requested. I returned to my room FIVE hours later, and still, no one had serviced my room.
The next day, housekeeping somehow managed to bend the hairdryer plug prongs so that it couldn’t be plugged in (see photo). I called for a new hairdryer and asked to please rush it, as I was getting ready for a dinner program. Another call and 30 minutes later, I got my hairdryer. Needless to say, I was late for dinner. I’ve honestly had much better service at budget-friendly chains like Fairfield and Comfort Suites!
Also, I almost stepped on broken glass in the hallway (see photo) and was nearly run over by a housekeeping cart. The housekeeping staff member was pushing the cart and hollering at her colleague, but was not watching where she was going. The checkout line was ridiculous. No late checkout whatsoever, and checkout time is 11am. I probably would have stayed a bit longer to check out the spa and stores had they been more accommodating about checkout.
For what you pay, I was disappointed by the way simple requests were treated. I would really hesitate to stay here again when there are so many resorts of this caliber that have far better service. However, the views and grounds were breathtaking, and the restaurants were good.

It's obvious that Terranea is still finding it's footing after reopening in our Covid-19 reality. Everything felt so regimented. Example, if you're 10 minutes early for a dinner reservation, you'll have to wait until exactly your time. But once you're sitting down, the service and menu choices (Bashi and Catalina) were excellent. There was no room cleaning during my stay and not once was I asked if I needed anything like an extra towel. When you're paying upwards of $425 per night (on a special before taxes , resort fee, parking) little things can make a big difference. But the property and it's location make up for any shortcomings.

We came here from Scottsdale for a Thu-Sun quick trip for my 40th birthday. Upon check in we learned that the main pool was closed for renovations. Of course this is where there is a water slide that I had promised my kids! and upon hearing it was closed my daughter was crying. They gave us no indication prior to arrival that this was the case. Even the main breakfast and lunch restaurant -Catalina -had all of their windows covered by plastic sheeting because of exterior renovations. Very depressing to eat there while we were waiting for our room to be ready. It was the most disappointing entrance to what was supposed to be a wonderful vacation. At lunch the server and manager were very kind and felt my frustration and promised that they would do everything to make our trip wonderful. He even said he was noting our reservation so that the rest of the staff would make up for our disappointing entrance. My husband had even told them in advance that it was my 40th birthday but at no point on the trip did we receive an amenity in the room. Other than a complimentary mimosa at breakfast and a complimentary dessert at dinner on my birthday we did not receive anything special. I had celebrated my birthday with friends a little early in Sedona, and of course at Enchantment Resort they just put complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in the room. This would’ve gone a long way to make up for some of the disappointments we experienced but nothing extra was done. I normally wouldn’t complain about a lack of amenity, but considering we came with our kids on a family trip and found out the family pool was closed, they could’ve done a little more to make it up to us. On top of that, the pool that we COULD go to (the adults only pool was still closed to kids), had NO kids toys or anything for them to play with.
Also our server at Nelson’s was terrible. He came up to our table and just stood there. He didn’t introduce himself, tell us what he recommended, offer us another beverage, or even dessert. I had complained enough at lunch and didn’t want to embarrass my family by complaining again so we let it go. The fish tacos were delicious though. We also had a lovely dinner at Marsel. The resort in general is beautiful. I think we just hit it at the wrong time. But if you want to celebrate a special occasion here, don’t except any extra special treatment. We could have stayed in Scottsdale at the golf community where we live and experienced much better treatment for a lot less money.

The resort is amazing but bring food from outside as restaurants are closed or have no staff or availability to serv you and your family. Housekeeping won’t arrive to clean your room and concierge won’t pick up your calls as holding time is 1-2 hours.
Indoor dinning is extremely limited to a point that espresso is not an option same goes for avocado toast and many other basic products.
Pool has no available seating during the weekend, and you will pay high $ to seat on the floor using a towel! the main reason is short of staff, other pools are closed to private events or adults
Restaurants are mostly closed or private events and whatever open is "full", so make sure to have reservations couple of days before! Guests of the hotel need to compete with outside guests for hotel services and same goes for private events.
Paying high $$$$$ for a room worth less then conferences and events
On the other end some positive feedback the resorts are Beautiful and have many beautiful weddings and front desk team is genuinely nice, but their power is extremely limited! same goes for the restaurant staff which are tired from getting yelled by customers for not able to serv them,

Overall the hotel and property are stunning. I have one complaint that is worth noting - on day 3 we requested a room refresh and returned to find 2 bath towels and one set of sheets stacked on the bed - trash cans were still overflowing and nothing had been tidied or “refreshed.” For a room that starts at $1000/ night I would say this is unacceptable service.
There are food options to please even the most restricted diets (except for maybe someone who is on a juice cleanse). We tried every restaurant on property including room service.
They offer an exciting variety of excursions. The spa experience was notable. The surrounding coves and trails are a fun adventure too!

I want to start this review by saying the staff is fantastic. Everyone was so helpful and genuine, and did their best to help us with any/all challenges. However that said, we will not be returning anytime soon. While the property is beautiful, the resort is skimping on benefits for the guests and focusing on profits. All doors and windows of the resort in the main areas are open 24/7. As the temperature drops significantly at night and even during the day was very chilly, if you are stuck with a room on the main/ground floor be prepared to wear a parka anytime you walk out of your room. Do they just not want to pay the heat bill so that customers can be comfortable? Additionally, there is a $50 resort fee and $50 parking fee because even though there is self parking, you still have to pay the $50 if you want to keep your car onsite. Our car was clean when we arrived, and after two days was returned to us covered in bird poop and debris from the tree it was parked under. For that amount of money and lack of parking options, you'd think they could at least clean the car off before returning, now we have to pay to get our car cleaned again. The room itself needs a major upgrade. We booked an ocean view room, but the slider door was so old and broken we could not even open it to experience any fresh air let alone the balcony and view. They need to fix the plumbing, as the tub drained extremely slow and water pressure in the shower was terrible. The dimmer lights in the bathroom did not work and one of the two phones in the room did not work. If you do not have a reservation at one of the onsite restaurants you have no option to eat there, as they will not even allow you to order food to go. Yet - good luck trying to get the concierge to help you with booking a reservation, as there was never anyone there to help.

We had an ocean front room and the view was amazing! When you arrive, your experience starts with a long line, then probably your room would not be ready. Nobody greets you and the guy who is supposed to pour sparkling wine for the new arriving clients asks you to first wait in line to check in and does not seem friendly at all. Lexus experience (part of the resort fee) is not advertised and when we asked about it, we were discouraged to try it as it was a hassle. Departure experience is equally long and tedious. It’s hard to reach the front desk via the phone as nobody picks up. The hotel was overcrowded as they try to host as many weddings as possible to cover their costs.
Key problem: cleanliness. We requested additional cleaning as the bedside tables and bathroom were visible dirty when we arrived. Poor water pressure and dripping shower, broken luggage rack, and stains on the throw pillows are among other things that stood out during our stay. We left our detailed feedback and the hotel gave us a 1-night discount which is great but still a bit disappointing to come to such a beautiful location and have no customer service. It was also a birthday celebration and there was no happy birthday card from the management, which was a bit odd.

Completely agree with the other reviewer. We arrived for a friends trip staying in a 2 bedroom bungalow. We had to take our luggage all the way across property up and down stairs because no bell boy. There will be no maid service to your room due to covid. They would allow the maintenance men in to service the room since the AC was not working, but it was unable to be fixed for the 4 day stay. We got the pleasure of repeatedly calling to remind them. To Terrenea’s credit they did offer a room credit, but for a resort that currently charges 1400/night for this room must we chase you down for maintenance? Half the pools are unopened as is the spa. Of the pools that are open, it is self serve drinks, and they REQUIRE you to purchase a meal in order to obtain alcohol.
I can understand needing to “cut down on staff” except it’s frustrating watching 10 staff members talk to each other’s through a window when you can’t get one of them to serve you. Having 4 people sit at a table to hand you a pool towel and tell you to wear a mask but no one to bring you a drink at the pool.
I completely understand having to alter services due to covid? I do not understand charging top dollar, full resort fees and offering nothing in exchange. I was considering changing our family vacation in three weeks when we first got here because the location and property were so lovely? Then I stayed here. Absolutely not.

As an LA local we went as a 3-night get away to relax and unwind in luxury. However, nothing was luxurious. We had to call housekeeping three times to bring fresh towels and then when they arrived they were missing half of what we had requested. The room was OK, internet never worked, food (Catalina, In-room, Marsai, Nelson’s and Pool Grill) was VERY overpriced for the basic quality. My children have food allergies and none of the restaurants could easily answer my questions around allergens. I expect so much more from a 5-star hotel.
DO NOT recommend if you are looking for a luxurious experience. Do yourself a favor and head to the Four Seasons instead!

Greetings and thank you for considering Terranea for your next getaway. Yes, our Villas and Casitas have full washers and dryers. Please feel free to contact our reservations team with any additional questions or for further assistance booking. Thank you.
That seems like a question that could be answered by calling the resort directly.
