Built 1957, the Saga Motor Hotel has been located on E. Colorado Blvd. (aka Route 66). The Saga is a boutique hotel with 70 guest rooms built around a large, heated pool and sun deck area in a garden setting surrounded by Palm Trees. In addition, the Saga is also located on the Tournament of Roses Parade route. While the Saga lets you step back in time to a day when actual keys were used to open hotel room doors and personalized service was common, we have all the “today” amenities you’d expect, including free, high-speed wireless service and cable television. We even have a business center, free computer services and small meeting room (in an informal and comfortable library setting) for groups of up to 20.

Third time at this place. First time I stayed here was 2006 and it was really great, as was the second time in 2019. It still is! Stayed here for a week with my family for a wedding. Booked 2 rooms, first floor. Yes, it is an older hotel, but it's very clean and the staff is friendly and very helpful. No breakfast buffet due to covid, but they gladly give you coffee, danish, fruit, yogurt, granola bar to take poolside and enjoy. And it is very good coffee, which is really all that matters to me. Even though the place is on a busy road they've created a nice oasis with a (very clean) pool surrounded by palm trees, and the hummingbirds kept us very entertained. Free use of laundry room (you can buy 1-load boxes of detergent at the desk for $1). Plenty of parking, central location and walkable neighborhoods. Pretty sure this is the only place I'd stay when visiting the area in the future.

The location on Route 66, as we were driving from Chicago to LA , was great
The room was comfortable, clean and spacious
The lady on reception was friendly, helpful and chatty
A few home made items added to the normal breakfast range was a nice touch.
Very clean and inviting pool. The best we have seen to date on our trip.

The breakfast room is rather cosy making selecting your breakfast slightly uncomfortable with very limited space to sit.
We chose to eat around the pool in the shade which to be fair was quite nice
No hot water supply in the rooms for tea or coffee was disappointing

This Mid-century Modern Hotel built in 1957 is a charm. If you want the back in time Rt66 experience, this is the place. My son and I stayed here while visiting the LA area. We enjoyed the non-mainstream friendly atmosphere captured here. The quaint garden style breakfast area was nicely appointed with bagels, pastries, donuts, cereals and fruits...oh, and Starbucks coffee, and a Keurig just in case Starbucks is not for you. The rooms are very clean but a bit out dated, and the building in general is showing its age, but the owners have done a great job taking care of the gem of a hotel. The other people staying there were very friendly and chatty, it made you feel good with all the positive energy. It was the perfect place for us, including the location.

Long story, short version. We booked a room on Booking.com and stated we had a dog. Rate was $84 plus a $35 dog fee. Expensive dog fee for 1 night, but OK. Owner called us and said we could not book on Booking.com with a dog. Why? Because it is a different fee, and only 4 dog rooms, in the worst location on property. Our final bill was $168, after asking for a discount. There was only 1 other room occupied. In reality, we paid a nearly $85 for our pooch, AND you can bet there was ZERO trace of him, as we are responsible pet owners. We booked 1 hour before arrival. Never felt welcomed. She locked up the lobby as I walked out. Ugly construction fence around property. Locked up from 11pm-6am "for our safety!" There were piles of leaves from our car to our room. Not a good welcome. Look for a rake in the mail. $168 with a $10 discount is NUTS for this place. AND the least desirable room location. I think they hate dogs!

The saga motel hotel is a true gem. From start to finish, we had a wonderful stay. It’s impeccably clean, a great location, it has an amazing pool, we were room 123, it was right outside the door! (Behind a safety gate) The motel had wonderful range of people staying there. For the price, this original motor hotel is incredible value and makes a trip to Pasadena somewhat affordable. We have two young children and it worked well. Two double beds, a good sized bath. I would highly recommend and we will be back. I booked with the motel direct on their website and it was a simple and stress free.

Have visited the hotel three times, one of my favorite. Mid-twentieth century aesthetic has been preserved both in the rooms and on the property as a whole. Other guests were pretty quiet each time I have stayed. The location is good also convenient for various things without too much street noise.

What an extraordinary experience of thoughtfulness and service giving to us during our stay by the current managers of Saga Motor Hotel. We had problems with our UBER Account out of nowhere and we were scheduled to go for a massage. Somewhat panicked I went to the front desk and asked if we could find a taxi. She explained"oh thats to expensive" and they used their Uber account to get us to our massage and back!!!!! Extraordinary service. When we needed to check out because we were having some issues they allowed us to stay over the time and did not charge us. This sort of hospitality is rare. The place is quaint but very clean plus its close to the Huntington Gardens. Again our sincere appreciation for all there help and extra kindness.

The lady at the front desk was racist towards black people. She approach us very aggressively and asked what we were doing there, although we had already checked in and went to lunch and was walking back to our room. I stated we were going to our room and she should check her records. I went down to the front desk to say I was offended by her. She stated we could not have more than 4 people in the room. I told her the others were not staying just visiting. She said the could visit outside not in the room due to fire hazard. I have never heard of such a thing and I have travel to many places in the last 30 years. I told her this was racial profiling and I took this whole ordeal as such. She called the room and told us we could leave and a refund would be issued. I went back to the front desk and got the refund issued and asked for a print out, which she he hummed about but I was not leaving unless I got a print. Which I finally received. We packed up and left and I stated I was giving the placed a terrible review

Absolutely loved this wonderfully preserved mid-century hotel. No frills, just nostalgia. There are so many cool details including a brown bag style continental breakfast, a swimming pool that is more than 6ft deep, and even old school keys. It's in a nice location across the street from Pasadena City College and down the street from Old Town Pasadena. Highly recommend.

Super Retro hotel with lovey palms surrounding the pool. Ask for room 217, 219 or 215 so you can view the palms through the hurricane blinds.decor hasn’t been updated If that’s what you’re looking for but the Continental breakfast is vast including Krispy Kreme‘s! Good coffee
