The VEA Newport Beach, a Marriott Resort & Spa, receives accolades for its prime location within walking distance to attractions and its vibrant atmosphere, especially during music-filled evenings and lively weekends. While the rooms boast stunning views and are praised for their cleanliness, some guests feel the decor is outdated and have noted noise issues.
The service is generally regarded as attentive, yet experiences of unresponsiveness have been mentioned. Although opinions on value are divided due to high rates and resort fees, the amenities are widely appreciated.

Detailed Reviews

I was quite concerned when we booked 5 weeks ago because there were only two reviews and I wasn’t sure if the construction from the massive facelift was complete. What a surprise. The facelift has done wonders for a hotel we went to 35 and 20 years ago. As fairly new Marriott members, we didn’t get one of the upper floors but I can assure you our room on the floor just above the main pool was outstanding. With the windows shut, we could barely hear the crowds down below. The deck around the pool is amazing with lots of seating and there are quite a few fire pits around the property.
Bikes are included in the resort fee. We took a ride a mile down the hill to Balboa Island. Took the ferry for $1.75 per person across to the Newport Beach Peninsula and rode along the Boardwalk. We walked along the piers and stopped for lunch at Wilma’s on Balboa Island.
One of our favorite malls is Fashion Island directly across the street from the hotel. Lots of very high end stores and good restaurants.
We also took the free shuttle down to Corona State Beach and walked along the beach and also to the mouth of the inlet into Balboa Harbor.
Everything was clean, Vri at the front desk was welcoming, the grounds are well maintained, and the staff was all very friendly. Along the street you might be able to find free two hour ore more parking.
A great experience and I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

We are currently staying at the VEA Marriott Newport Beach. This property is beautiful, modern, and extremely well-run.
When we arrived last night at 9pm, we were surprised by how busy the hotel’s porte-cochere was. It was filled with several cars and people.
We were warmly greeted by the valet staff. These guys were wonderful— so polite and efficient. My husband and I were very impressed by how organized they were.
Check in was quick and easy. We were led to our room by Milo from the Bell desk. Milo is perfect for a role in customer service. He was friendly and very helpful. He pointed out markers and gave us tips to help us find our room on our own (it’s a little tricky).
We ate dinner at View, the hotel restaurant. The food was delicious. Our server, Gaby was wonderful. My husband ordered an unusual cocktail (Corpse Reviver #2). Instead of giving us a weird look, Gaby smiled, confirmed the name of the cocktail, and returned 15 minutes later with a fantastic Corpse Reviver #2 - kudos to the bartender.
So far, we are extremely impressed with the VEA Marriott. We are already planning a future stay.
I will add more feedback soon.

We stayed at VEA Newport Beach to celebrate my birthday weekend with my family, which was a memorable experience. As soon as we arrived at the property, everybody was friendly & welcoming. Victoria at the Front Desk accommodated us with an early check-in, an upgrade to the Sky guestroom with the ocean views, and a run-through of the property. Upon entering my room, a treat from Maddie from Guest Relations with a personalized letter was prepared, and I was just very thankful for such a thoughtful surprise. Although the hotel had events going on, we were still able to enjoy the pool and other amenities. We also enjoyed our breakfast at the View. I couldn't remember the name of our server, but he was also very attentive and opened the windows so we could enjoy our meal with the breeze of air. We will return for another staycation and recommend this property in Newport Beach!

The VEA is a very nice property and fully refurbished. The staff are great and the ambiance is very nice. It has a great location across the street from Nordstrom at Fashion Island. But, I don't think we will stay here again. Here are my reasons why: No self-parking. Valet only and it is $60 a day. We asked for a quiet room and were placed in a tower on the other side of the convention space. It was indeed quiet but it is a very long walk and very inconvenient unless you are attending a convention. The room was clean and nicely furnished but pretty small by hotel standards. The bathroom was incredibly small with absolutely no counter space. And this was a Bonvoy "upgraded" room. The shower has a full length window in it facing the bed. There is a door you can pull across the window from the bed area so you have some privacy when showering, but not total privacy. It's SO weird. The bathroom lights and the small LED lights in the stand-alone closet come on with movement so if you get up in the middle of the night, all the lights come on. The room was not worth the $500+ we paid and it was an odd room. But again, the staff was very nice.

Dear SierraToGo, Thank you for sharing your review. We are pleased you enjoyed our convenient location and the courteous service provided by our associates. We also appreciate you mentioning our excellent atmosphere and beautiful property. However, we regret your disappointment with the size of your room and that our accommodations did not provide the value for which you were hoping. As with most cities, certain times of the year are busier and command higher rates, but we do make every effort to be priced competitively. We are also sorry to learn that we did not meet some of your expectations. Your comments will be shared with the appropriate individuals as we continually strive to improve our overall guest experience. We hope you will change your mind and give us another opportunity to provide you with the excellent hospitality for which we are known. Best Regards, Debbie Snavely General Manager

We stayed in a suite and when making the reservations they forgot to tell me they have construction pounding and noise every day from 7am in the morning. They also said to order your car from a card they gave you. We waited once for 30 minutes outside and the valet staff said "oh, that card doesn't work". The food was not good for room service.
The furniture was modern which is find but it was not comfortable.

I had stayed here before they remodeled and had a really nice experience.
This time I booked our first annual convention here which required 40 rooms for 2-3 nights, food, setup and conference facilities.
The upgrades to the property were amazing and the staff even better. The event planer, Leanne Johnson went above and beyond, Maria Valdez worked with me to get the rooms finalized and the attendees and team loved the property and their rooms.
I would stay here again even if it was just to visit Newport Beach.

Large group, lots of meeting rooms, good outdoor receptions , breakfast etc.. quality buffets. Pool bar and main bar service reasonable , watch bar tonic water was flat more like soda - quickly replaced .
Only disappointment was housekeeping. Left tip and instructions for new glassware, ignored or forgotten each day.
Short distance car service included in resort fee was helpful. Close to major shopping and restaurants.

Just spent a weekend from an international trip. I was very lucky to be upgraded to an ocean view room where the view was nice.
I like the open style of the hotel and hotel pool was good.
There is no direct beach access so a shuttle was provided, paid by your resort fee.

The room was beautiful but loud. Every time someone comes and goes, you hear the door slam. The pool and restaurant play music at night which is incredibly loud. I was annoyed to pay the resort fee + valet. Almost every time we got our car, we were blocked in by 2-3 cars. So we always were waiting. The hotel is very pretty but I don't understand all the additional fees. The coffee downstairs was terrible. It was our anniversary and I would have loved some peace and quiet.
We had to check out early because of Tropical Storm Hilary and had to rush out in order to make it to Palm Springs in under 2 hours. I never stayed my second night and would like to get my points back.

VEA Marriott is conveniently located within a walking distance to Fashion Island shops & restaurants. The beds were very comfortable, hotel was very clean as you would expect from Marriott hotels. The sunset from the pool area was beautiful. There’s no self parking but valet worked efficiently (daily fee of ~$50). The pool lounge chairs were one of the best luxurious chairs we’ve seen but we had some difficulty finding seats together. We noticed there were many vacant cabana rentals ($300-$500) as we were looking for chairs, perhaps the hotel should consider converting some cabana areas into additional seating. While it’s a short drive to the Newport Beach, parking is difficult to find at the beach. If you’re looking for more beach activity, your best bet is to find a hotel on the beach. VEA MarrIott does offer a complimentary shuttle to a smaller beach nearby with chairs/umbrellas but we didn’t get to try it on our trip. It was very nice staying here but we will likely opt to stay at a hotel right on the beach next time since parking is difficult to find at the beach.
