I travel regularly to Los Angeles to care for an elderly parent. This motel is my usual place to stay. No longer affiliated with Best Western, I sadly do not receive any loyalty perks, but the staff treat everyone as a VIP. The rooms are adequate in size with nice laminate flooring, mini-fridge and microwave. The bathroom is smaller but has a bidet toilet - a very nice, unexpected luxury for a budget property. It also has a dispenser for body wash, shampoo & conditioner that saves tens of thousands of tiny plastic bottles from going to our landfills and into our environment. You won't find luxurious Egyptian cotton towels here, but they are the usual motel quality.

In all of the times that I have stayed here, I have never gone into the pool or spa. They look clean and inviting, but really not my scene. Beds are comfortable and bedding is better than standard motel quality.

Nearby are a Ralph's, a Chinese/Asian market, Dim Sum, Korean BBQ, shopping mall and multiplex theater. I-10 is two minutes away. Very convenient location!

Having read some of the more recent less-than-flattering reviews, I must say that that has not been my experience. Make no mistake, this property will not earn top marks, but you are also not paying top rates. You do get what you pay for and we all choose this property, in part, to the lower room rates. Most staff are Asian/Filipino, some are not fluent in English. They DO work hard and try to do a good job.

The structure is probably about 40 years old. There are few 40 year old properties that do not have the aches and pains that come with age. There are several nearby properties that are nicer including a Hilton Garden Inn and several that are much worse. This property is somewhere in between. Have realistic expectations and you won't have any surprises.

Stayed here for the second time in 11 months, liked it even better, it seems the rooms have been repainted/redecorated.
Plus:
Affordable, free parking in front of the room
Big clean rooms, everything works OK including fridge.and coffee maker.
Daily change of bedsheets and towels
Free complimentary breakfast, with cereals, small croissants, toaster. fresh waffels you make yourself, congee, fresh fruit, cup noodles.
Free in room Wifi (often overburdened in the evening hours)
Individual in room aircon quite powerfull. Keeps room cool even when it is 103 degrees F outside.
A lot of affordable to cheap but good eateries and supermarkets in the direct vicinity, Asian goods and foodstuffs easy to come by.
Coin operated self service washers and dryers two each available.
Second car exit to Chandler Str available if you want to go North, main exit on Atlantic Blvd only to go South.
Minus:
Stair to the second floor rooms, no lift, not suitable for seniors carrying bagage.
Wifi not good in the evening, overburdened, not enough bandwidth.

Purpose of Trip:
We wanted to stay at a safe, clean hotel near to the CSULA campus for a weekend trip to move our daughter into campus housing.

Highlights:
1) This hotel was in a perfect location being about 3 miles away using surface streets.
Took us about 8 to 10 minutes to get to the campus.
2) Hotel parking felt safe. You drive through an archway and the hotel surrounds the parking lot
3) Room was clean
4) Beds were very comfortable
5) A/C cooled the room down nicely
6) Little fridge and mini safe
7) Bidet
8) WiFi connection was good
9) Good water pressure in the shower
10) Price was decent for the area
11) Lots of restaurants & stores in walking distance
12) The area in general felt safe
13) Nice, classy mini mall next door with AMC theater, Johnny Rockets, several Sushi bars
14) We called the office to let them know that they could clean the room & within 5 minutes we saw them at the door.
15) Good size room with 2 queen beds.
16) Furniture was adequate

Improvements Needed:
1) Some of the shower tiles had paint peeling off (entire tiles)
2) Lotion dispensers - hand lotion and conditioner - appeared full, but would not dispense lotion
3) Breakfast - Although a little more than a continental breakfast, the eggs were dried out and the orange juice was watered down. Also, the breakfast area is very small so if you get there at the wrong time, you may have to stand while you eat.

Bottom Line:
On the edge of rating it Very Good, but the little things kept me from doing so. We would definitely stay there again because of the location, safety & comfort.

Worn out, dirty. Rugs were soiled, gum stuck to ceiling, walls were dirty stucco, air conditioning sounded like an attack helicopter, tv only had Korean, Spanish and religious and sales channels, bed barely passable, as was breakfast if you like tea soaked eggs and automated machine coffee. Picture not representative of true state of this place. No hot water for shower and broken tv remote were fixed by staff within 6 hours. Internet was intermittent and slow. Worst place at $100 price point in my last 5 years of travel.

A week after checking out, after paying for everything, the bank sent us a text saying that 116 dollars were taken out of our credit card. We realized the hotel stole 120 dollars out of credit card!

Receipts weren't given, no call, no nothing.

After calling them several times, they didn't even apologize, had very poor attitude, were very impatient, and couldn't give us a logical reason.

A few more weeks later, we realized that they kept taking money from the credit card, at this point they have taken at least $360 from our credit card!

Hotels cannot take money away from customers without permission! This is called stealing and fraud.

This tells us a whole lot about this hotel; not trustworthy have no ethic, unhonest! These are not traits a hotel should have. This hotel steals money after customer leaves!

I do NOT recommend this hotel, at all.

I highly recommend this Best Western Plus Monterey Park in Monterey Park. Easy off and on to freeway 1-10. The location is perfect for shopping, dining, and sightseeing. Friendly staff. Complimentary water comes in handy on hot days. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub after a long hot day of walking around. We will definitely be back!

We've stayed here 4 times in the last 4 months as we've needed to be close to USC Keck Hospital. Never have had any problems- friendly staff, clean rooms, great beds, and a decent breakfast. Lots of mostly Asian restaurants within a block, and great freeway access. The wifi could be better, but how often do you get an electric toilet seat instead! We'll definitely be back, and maybe just need to use the iphone for internet.

This is my go-to place to stay whenever I'm in LA. I've probably stayed here cumulatively for at least 10 days. It is, for the price, an excellent choice for sleeping, for entertainment, for dining, and central to the major arteries in LA. The free breakfast is typical, the pool is well kept, and parking is plentiful except when there are people parking there who aren't guests going to the mall next door. The wi-fi is painstakingly slow to non-existent due to high usage. The room amenities is above average with 2 free water bottles daily. The lobby/lounge has free refrigerated apples & oranges for your needs as well as coffee and tea. Additional desktop computers for use.

I just love the very close walking distance proximity to the Atlantic Plaza with extensive dining choices open past midnight. Two full sized supermarkets across the street, car wash nearby, and just blocks from some of the areas best dim sums. Bank of America is next block by Ralphs. You can go about two blocks to make your vacation plans for Vegas, with outlets for Caesar's Palace and few other LV hotels.

It’s comparably cheap but you get what you paid. The best thing is free parking. Aircon is a bit noisy and the interior is worn out.

Breakfast is included but please don’t expect too much.

It’s not close to any metro and you definitely need a car to get around LA

Pull into the guest lot across from the office door, check in, they will give you a key card to your room, then park your vehicle to a parking spot closest to your room. All doors open to the parking lot like a traditional motel. The ice machine will be located on the west end of the south building that is connected to the office. They have a good continental breakfast bar in the office, a computer with a printer, a pool and jacuzzi. There is a coffee maker in each room with a refrigerator. Ralph's grocery store is just down the street on Emerson and Atlantic for your usual cuisine, Shun Fat will be right across the street which has Asian cuisine. The nearest Walmart will be on Walnut Grove Boulevard. You get to it by going south on Atlantic, turn left on Garvey, and go straight east to Walnut Grove Boulevard, turn right on Walnut Grove and it will be just past the Southern California Edison building on your right just across the street from the Wittier Narrows Golf Course. There are two gas stations on Garfield and Hellman, an ARCO and a 76 UniCal just next to the San Bernardino (I 10) freeway. You will be around 10 minutes from downtown Los Angeles and the Golden State Freeway (I 5), the Hollywood Freeway (US 101), the Harbor Freeway (I 110), and further west on the I 10 the Santa Monica Freeway, the San Diego Freeway (I 405). I hope all of that has helped.
