The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey, while praised for its prime location near the airport and local attractions, receives mixed reviews from guests. Some travelers appreciate the spacious rooms and the hotel's overall cleanliness, including the spotless condition of recently refurbished rooms. However, reviewers often feel that the hotel does not justify the premium pricing, citing outdated decor, noise issues, and additional costs for parking and services. While the amenities are generally seen as high-quality, maintenance problems sometimes mar the experience. The service is also a point of contention, with guests experiencing both commendable hospitality and occasional slow responses.

This was our first time ever staying at this property and it delivered on its Ritz Carlton brand. Prior to arrival, the staff via the Bonvoy app were able to upgrade me into a higher floor (9 out of 12) for the single King guest room. My wife and I are celebrating our Babymoon and making our way across America. This was the perfect start to our trip as the service was extremely professional and beyond expectations. I will break this review down into segments,

Check-In
From the initial check-in, Ever (Bellman) and Dorris (Front Desk) were friendly and informative about the property and updates due to COVID-19. checked us in. The view was better than we could have ever imagined seeing both the Santa Monica mountains and the Pacific Ocean.. talk about breathtaking.

Surprise Amenity
About 10 minutes into our stay, a surprise chocolate meringue to help celebrate our Babymoon. It was extremely thoughtful and really reinforced the service level of the Ritz.

Breakfast
We ordered room service all 3 mornings we spent. The food was delicious. As a note, the first morning, we were quoted for a 30 minutes wait and the food came at about 50 minutes. Without saying anything, upon arrival, the F&B gentlemen began with an apology followed by discussing how the meal would be taken care of (comp'd) which was another great surprise.

Pool
The pool was busy which was fine as the beautiful SoCal weather welcomed everyone out there. We were helped by Bobby and he was very attentive and kind. We were able to order drinks/food from Wave (pool bar) though the food was promised at the 30 minute time frame and was delivered incomplete and late (55 minute time frame). After raising our concern, the staff took rectified the order and again took care of it (comp'd) for their mistake.

Valet
I have nothing, but excellent things to say about the Valet team as I took my vehicle out numerous time throughout my stay (~10 times in 3 nights). Every time I called ahead to have it pulled, there my car was waiting for me upon exiting the lobby. I want to shoutout Edgar (Supervisor) for being personable and professional in every interaction I had with him. From Tarvon, Guillermo, Ever, Bryan, Shane, Manny, and others, THANK YOU for taking care of me and my wife!

Overall, the promise that the Ritz Carlton strives to deliver was exceeded, above and beyond in so many ways! When I find myself in Los Angeles in the future, this will be the only property I consider.

This is a 4 star Ritz Carlton with 5 star prices and attitude. Rooms are similar to basic Marriott rooms with nicer (albeit OLD) appointments in need of renovations. All bathrooms have bathtubs for showers - except handicap rooms. Very few outlets in room. Don’t bother with a full marina view because the room is smaller than a partial marina view. We have stayed here many times because of location near a family member and not once have we received an upgrade regardless of using Amex Platinum, Ritz Carlton Credit Card, virtuoso, etc. In fact, we always request a high floor and rarely get one. Front desk staff is fine but not standard old time Ritz Carlton training. You rarely hear, “my pleasure” from anyone. To make up for the lower than average accommodations, the staff should be stellar. It is not. Every time we stay here (3 to 4 times a year) we shake our heads. Beds are great as always and A/C is fine. Restaurant has decent food and a terrace that is quite enjoyable right over the marina. Go with low realistic expectations for a Ritz and you will be fine. This is definitely not a 5 star hotel.

We stayed here for one night using Bonvoy points and had a mixed experience. Appreciated being able to check in early. Gym is nice but too small. Electricity went out briefly the afternoon of check in as well as in the morning at the gym while on treadmills with no explanation. Loved the outdoor heated saltwater pool but was appalled at the propane leaf blower noise and fumes at 9am. Either use electric one or sweep. Ruined a peaceful time outdoors on an overcast morning. Please stop using plastic water bottles in rooms and gym. Cast and plow doesn’t even have a vegan category on the menu which seems odd in Southern California in 2023. We left after reviewing menu to go out in Venice. Very unfriendly staff in the store. My daughter’s key stopped working a few hours after check in and she was not treated kindly by the front desk staff. Bathroom too small with tub that isn’t Ritz standards. Would have shared this with manager before posting but he was too busy taking complaint from another couple who was checking out. Liked the art exhibit near lobby and Bob the pool guy who we met after check in. Lots of room for improvement

We came here to celebrate my wife’s 50th birthday. What a train wreck. I should preface by saying we usually stay at The Peninsula when in L.A. so our expectations are high. We arrived to be greeting by no one. We (along with 3 other cars) sat waiting to be acknowledged by anyone. My wife had to go in and search for someone. 15 minutes later someone was there to help all of us. One man! Later, sent a text to the valet for our car. No one replied. We finally walked down to the valet after 30 minutes to learn their text system was “down”. I tried to surprise my wife with breakfast in bed by calling in an order from the bathroom and told the girl why I was whispering. 30 minutes later they call the room to report they have no English Muffins. It woke my wife up, ruined the surprise and the kicker is - my order HAD an English Muffin! There was NO REASON to call my room. Later in the day I ordered some wings from Carlos at the pool. It took an hour to get them, they were served in a bag with a handle and we were told our time limit (2 hours) was up that the pool so we needed to eat our wings in the room. This is not the type of service I expect from a Ritz-Carlton property. The rooms are old, small and outdated. Everything here is closed due to covid including the gym, the bar, the spa, the gift shop, the concierge desk. You can stay at a Holiday Inn and have the same experience. I was expecting over the top and received under the bottom. A very disappointing experience.

My grandmother (91yrs old) had a room booked for a month now. It’s the only Ritz Carlton Suite at this hotel. The room alone was a ticket of $40,000. I called today to inquire about early check-in and was informed that the current guest in that room will be extending her stay during our allotted time. We have a private jet booked, we don’t have much room to make changes last minute. We specifically chose this hotel because of the dining table setting in the room and additional seating for our family while she’s in town so that she wouldn’t have to go out in general public with the virus peaking. We were then told that there may be additional cost for extra seating instead of being accommodating due to the inconvenience. There was absolutely no owning this situation and attempting to make it better. She then suggested Econo Inn or something like that down the street with a kitchenette. I’ve never seen customer service like this from a 5 star hotel. We were booked for two rooms totaling $46,000 now we’re shopping for another hotel. We’re very disappointed!

We enjoyed a three night stay at this wonderful property!! Much of what made it so enjoyable was the people! The staff, from checking in to concierge to bar and poolside staff to housekeeping, and everyone we passed while walking the property were engaging, pleasant, friendly, and helpful! Even the housekeeping staff taking care of our room engaged us in discussion each time she saw us, including wishing us well as we were leaving and saying she hopes to see us again soon! (When’s the last time housekeeping anywhere else has been this friendly?!?)

We arrived much earlier than the 4PM normal check-in time and the lady working the desk who checked us in was very helpful and friendly and provided amazing service with a sincere smile! She reviewed the reservations we had, going over the package details (which we booked through Marriott), as well as reviewing details of what the property has to offer for their destination fee. She recognized my Bonvoy status and offered an upgrade as well. Something I’ve not experienced at a Marriott property (whether I book through Marriott or a third party) in a while.

Once in the room, it was very nice, clean, and comfortable. The room overlooked the pool, pickleball, and tennis areas… as well as the marina, with nice views of the yachts and sailboats.

The pool area is great! It’s clean and they offer full service, including towel service and regular bar staff circulating to ensure you’re well fed and hydrated. They also circulate the pool deck with samples of food and drinks on a regular basis. The hot tub was a reasonable temperature, not overly high. Pool is heated and both the pool and hot tub are salt water. And both the pool and hot tub were very clean! Restrooms in the pool area are perfectly clean and well attended to by staff.

The hotel features a gift shop and a jewelry store inside. More excellent service this property provides is performed by their amazing concierge staff; Amanda and Lisa, both were excellent in helping us with dining plans. Lisa went out of her way to find just the right dining solution for us, which we definitely appreciated!

Staying at this property was truly a great experience, one we can’t wait to do again, so we hope to return soon!

I have to travel to LA for work frequently and I have stayed here a handful of times in the last 6 months. This is absolutely my favorite hotel in LA. Location is great - I really prefer the west side and MDR is clean and nice. Rooms are comfortable and quiet, the rooms I've stayed in don't have an adjoining door so that reduces a lot of the noise. Customer service is exactly what you would expect at a Ritz. I had a minor issue with wifi one of the times I stayed there and Asaf at the front desk was just fantastic, he immediately helped find a solution and worked to address the problem. Other than that, I work from my room and have had 0 issues with the wifi - can't say that about everywhere I have stayed in LA. The one thing I don't like is that there isn't a self-parking option during COVID, but I just park across the street in the public parking lot and haven't had any issues. It's only $6 for 24 hours. Overall, I highly recommend this property and will continue to choose this over other hotels when I am in LA.

Walking into a Ritz Carlton is supposed to be classy, clean, and attentive. Unfortunately, this property is in need of a major overhaul and a nice deep cleaning. I understand they are short staffed due to the current times, etc. However, there are some basic needs that must be met at a property such as this one. The couches and chairs in the lobby are filthy and quite unbecoming of a Ritz Carlton. Many times I found trash in the hotel elevator lobby's, which I alerted the staff about, 8 hours later, trash was till there. The rooms need an upgrade and the air vents in the rooms MUST be cleaned. Why is this not on a maintenance schedule is beyond me. The restaurant and bar staff did the best they could, however, they were run quite thin and ultimately couldn't handle the occupancy of the hotel and many guests would be upset at the wait times etc. It's disheartening that such a wonderful property would not do whatever necessary to ensure that their standards are always upheld?! Again, I think BonVoy is the issue.

I’m a lifetime titanium member of Marriott. I trusted Marriott with my safety and now believe more and their ability to keep us safe based upon this experience. I will see that although they’re being responsible we have patrons must also be responsible.

I felt very safe as the staff exercised all social distancing requirements. I felt as though they wanted to ensure that all their guests were as safe as they were. I also felt the comfort of the Ritz Carlton, and if you stayed at Ritz Carlton’s before you know what I mean. It made my work feel more comfortable. I would definitely recommend staying here again if needed. My original reservation was for the Marriott Marina Del Ray when I got there the Marriott was closed although there was no announcements for this being closed it was made up with the upgrade to the Ritz Carlton.

Calming location away from the madness of LA, perfect for unwinding at the end our 2 week Route 66 road trip. Route 66 ends in Santa Monica, but I wanted to be away from the crowds after such a long drive, so Marina Del Rey seemed perfect given its proximity yet seclusion from Santa Monica. After staying at the Ritz, I’m even more happy with that decision.

The grounds and hotel itself are lovely, but what really stood out was the customer service. Everyone was so helpful and accommodating even during covid. The best part was being upgraded to a marina view room with balcony for being Marriott Platinum without even asking even though upgrades are generally for Titanium and Ambassador level elites for Ritz Carlton properties. It was such a treat to look out onto the marina during sunset from the balcony and hear the seals barking at night. I had such a great experience that I’ll definitely keep this place in mind for any future R&R staycations.
