Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Guests have consistently acclaimed the Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza for its exceptional service, often mentioning the accommodating staff and the handy courtesy car service. The hotel's prime downtown location is another highlight, offering easy access to local culture and public transport, not to mention complimentary rides within a certain distance. While the rooms are lauded for their cleanliness and comfort, some visitors feel the decor could use an update. The atmosphere is described as both tranquil and elegant, with the hotel being conveniently situated close to cultural hotspots. Amenities, including free museum tickets, add to the comfort of the stay. However, travelers have called out the costly, mandatory valet parking as a downside, despite finding the room rates and dining options reasonably priced.

We had originally planned to stay two nights. Unfortunately, during the second night, I became ill and was admitted to a nearby hospital. We ended up extending our stay for four additional nights. The front desk staff were very accommodating each time my husband asked to stay another night. The courtesy car drivers were helpful and drove him back and forth to the hospital each day, saving him much stress. One of the maids even wrote me a note hoping I would feel better soon. All in all, everyone we dealt with was extremely helpful.
Now for the "regular" review - the hotel itself is in a great location. It's easy walking distance to The Broad Museum, MOCA, Disney Hall and the Music Center. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The sheets and towels were luxurious. If you are hungry, the breakfasts in the hotel restaurant are great. If you are not so hungry, there are cafes in the plaza for a lighter meal during the week.
A great place to stay in downtown LA.

First off, the location is fabulous—walk out onto the terrace outside the café on the third floor, and you literally are AT the Museum of Contemporary Art. Go down some steps and cross Grand, walk half a block and you're at the Broad Museum and Walt Disney Concert Hall. We were on the Club Floor with great 17th-floor views, and the complimentary continental breakfast and drinks/hors d'oeuvre spread at cocktail hour were terrific. I love that there are actual ice machines on each floor so you don't have to call Room Service to get a bucket of ice. The hotel has a courtesy car that will take you and/or pick you up within a three mile radius; it wasn't available when we needed it, but you can't fault the hotel for that. There are two computers in the business center for printing out boarding passes. Management set out snacks and treats in the lobby to mark St. Patrick's Day. Thoughtful touches galore. The ONLY quibbles I had (and I am super picky/critical after years of staying at Four Seasons properties) is that the bathrooms could use a night light, and I wish they had 24-hour room service. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was spotlessly clean and inviting. (Our maid told us she's worked there for 30 years, so they must be doing something right as an employer, too.) Service was prompt and attentive. Just a great value for the money all around. If we had occasion to stay in downtown LA again, either for business or leisure, we would absolutely book here. Highly recommend.

Other reviews about weed smell, great location, super comfortable bed, location on hilltop where you are sheltered from homeless, and very friendly staff are all on point. You can’t fault hotel for rude patrons who smoke. I didn’t complain much about it since we were there only for one night to attend Dodgers game.

The on-site restaurant closed at 11 but the staff made exception to put our order in since we were taking it to go. The restaurant staff was really busting their hump to accommodate guests. That night I saw on news nobody wants to go back to work in CA because some service workers prefer to remain on unemployment. The staff here put in 110% but really need more help since travel demand is back, and people are going to this property for its history of solid reviews. I would return here without hesitation.

We stayed in this hotel for proximity of location to the family we were visiting. Price wise seemed a bit overpriced, average of $300 to $400 a night for our 7 day stay.
There are too many miscellaneous charges you cannot opt out of ($25 for a destination charge) and the only option for parking is valet parking. Convenient but utterly overpriced at $52 a night.
Every staff member we interacted with was very nice. They were courteous and engaging.
In two occasions our room wasn’t done when we came back to the hotel to freshen up. It was past 4:30 both times. First time it was due to staff getting rooms ready for the football team staying at the hotel. While we understood the staff was pressed for time, at the price we paid, we were not expecting to go back to a room that hadn’t been made up at that time of the day.
On our last night in the hotel, the people staying in the room right next to ours were having a party. It was 3 am when they woke us up, that includes my 6 year old daughter. They were talking loudly, laughing and smoking weed. We could smell it from our room. We went down to alert someone at the reception desk but it was empty. We were able to let a different staff member know who came back up and asked them to stop. After he left it took them about 20 minutes to quiet down. The smell to weed lingered for hours? How do I know? Because I wasn’t able to go back to sleep after that. Happy New Year to me, I guess!
The next morning we went down to check out. We felt we should be refunded for our last night’s stay but all we could get was a refund for half the night. The manager we talked to felt that it was enough because in his opinion they hotel did respond to our complaint the night before and got them to stop.
Again, at almost $400 a night for that particular night we were not expecting people partying in the middle of the night or smoking weed in their room which I assume it was a non-smoking room just like ours.
This really made an impression on us and the likelihood of recommending the hotel went from “it’s a great hotel if you can afford it” to “find something else”.

Stayed Dec 27 thru 29 in the lower-priced double room with a view that overlooked the street entrance.

Luke warm water the first night. Slightly warm water in the bath the second night, but by the time I took my shower, it was super cold.

The only thing nice was a pretty lobby and we did like the separate tub from shower in the bathroom. No bed rail for child.

The staff did not seem friendly and seemed overwhelmed with the guests coming in. No smiles. Took a long time to even get acknowledged when pulling into the driveway. Forced/required valet parking fee in addition to the resort fee.

Lack of understanding on customer service. Even when one receptionist told the other that this customer next to us had been waiting, the other receptionist continued servicing the other person who approached him after. In another incident, I saw that they charged a man twice because he paid cash when he first checked in, but never gave him a receipt or recorded it correctly. He was trying really hard to get the charge reversed before he left after checkout, but the receptionist just said they couldn't do it and would need to wait a day to research it.

Another client who didn't speak English did not understand that they had taken her suitcase up to the room already as she was checking in so she kept asking. They just kept telling her louder in English. They did not try to find out what language she spoke or try to get anyone else to help. They could have tried google translate or something.

I don't know. Compared to the service I've seen at hotels in Hawaii where they can speak multiple languages and smile, the service here just seemed lacking.

We did not use housekeeping to be environmental, but the lack of instant hot water cancelled out our efforts as we were running the bath water and the shower much longer to try to get the water hot. We probably ended up wasting water a bit. From the other reviews I saw on Expedia and here, seems like we weren't the only ones who did not get hot water. Place overall was clean.

The walk to Little Tokyo was a bit tiring when coming back up the hill. Had a slightly difficult time navigating here with GPS as well due to some parallel road. So overall, the experience based on the location of this hotel was not good for us. We would try another hotel closer to Little Tokyo next time for our purposes.

Sleep quality was good though as we don't recall hearing noise in the hallways through the door or traffic through the windows.

Stayed here for a night after spending the afternoon hiking the Hollywood trail.

Check in was quick, easy. Chris was awesome and later provided great dinner recommendations.

Upon checking into the first room (King room) on the fourteenth floor, we were overwhelmed with the smell of cigarettes/weed.

Went back down to front desk and got a new room (King room) located on the fifteenth floor. The cigarette/weed smell was faint. There were handprints on the window, a small stain on the bed sheet and a couple of leftover drinks from the previous guest in the mini fridge. Not to mention, the body wash in the shower had a few squirts left in it.

Totally unimpressed, especially with this “pandemic” causing everybody to be overly consciousness about cleanliness. With the occupancy rate lower than usual, I would think housekeeping would do a much better job at making sure each room is adequately cleaned before putting the room back into inventory.

Advised front desks staff again about the issues with the second room. They informed me they would sent housekeeping up and follow up with me. Housekeeping was quick to respond and took care of the aforementioned issues. Front desk associate who told me he would follow up with me never did.

Mediocre property at best. Pool needed some TLC as well. Property had a strong odor of marijuana throughout its hallways.

So as not not end on a sour note... aside from Chris being great, the valet staff was solid. Also, the views from the room were super cool (facing Grand Ave).

DON'T STAY HERE. They will soak you for a room that's no better than countless other rooms for less money in LA. I've stayed at numerous hotels in the City, this one doesn't offer anything special, but plan on the "destination fee" which will add considerably to your bill, another $45 or 50 per person for a decent breakfast, $55 per night for valet and the same if you happen to have a visitor that needs to park, etc. etc. For what they charge, you think they could put better mattresses, something besides the oversized polyester pillows, and bad coffee in the room, but no. Room service, while offered, comes in disposable containers.

Dear future traveler,
A group of 7 of us from various parts of the country and the world met at the OMNI downtown Los Angeles for a girls trip weekend. The accommodations were excellent. The main hotel rooms were a traditional size but the strength of this property is the quality of cleanliness, the spectacular views from the higher floors, the speed of the elevators between floors, the security (no one has access to floors other than their own) and the quality of the food. In particular I recommend staying on the 17th floor if possible. Those who stay there will not only have access to any floor but will also have access to the club house - a 17th floor lounge with great views of the city that has a breakfast including a great array of fruit, lox and bagels, croissants and egg sandwiches, tea, coffee, sparkling water beverages of all kinds as well as a dinner in the evening with an open bar including on occasion salmon, beef wellington or whatever delicacies the chef prepares on any given day. The 17th floor price is therefore well worth it. The staff were very very helpful and they have a free hotel car that guests can book that takes you anywhere within a two mile radius for free. Minor drawbacks - there is only one hotel car of this sort, so if it is booked you are on your own. There is no direct, hotel owned shuttle from the airport. The cost from LAX is approximately $50-$60 by taxi as off April of 2024

Beds were very comfortable and sheets were soft (a sticking point for me!) The staff was very nice and accommodating. There is a driver available to take guests short distances.
