citizenM has landed Downtown in La La Land! Find our first Los Angeles hotel at 361 South Spring Street a short stroll from... everything you need! The fashion, toy, art and financial districts are all within walking distance of our hotel, bringing affordable luxury to the gold-pathed streets of Tinsel Town. Upstairs, every room has an XL king-size bed (topped with butter-soft Italian linen) you'll want to dive into to. Suffering from jetlag? Send it spiralling down the plughole in the room's steamy rain shower. Want to watch a movie? Use our app or your room's MoodPad to control the smart TV, lighting, temperature and blackout blinds. Yes, we serve popcorn at canteenM too! Inside are the usual (citizenM) suspects: 24/7 canteenM to curb a weary citizen's cravings, 5 societyM meeting rooms for LA's big dreamers, and an art-packed Vitra-styled living room you wish was yours. There's self-check-in (at the kiosks or via our app) which takes only a minute.

Many guests commend Citizenm Los Angeles Downtown for its state-of-the-art amenities and strategic position in the heart of the city, steps away from metro stations and key attractions. The hotel's rooms, celebrated for their cleanliness and cutting-edge tech, are noted to be on the smaller side and could benefit from improved soundproofing.
The friendly and efficient staff contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, though occasional slow service has been mentioned. Despite the compact space and extra costs, travelers feel the hotel provides a good value proposition for a modern, affordable luxury experience.

Detailed Reviews
Nice hotel for single traveller. Rooms are very small and contain only one double bed and the width of the room is as long as a bed. Washroom is a glass enclosure inside the room with the sink outside. The room had an iPad to control curtains and a neat colour changing system which is cool but ultimately pointless. There is a security guard at night beware that there are a lot of homeless people nearby.

I wanted to stay in downtown LA and do everything by public transport for 5 days. I wasn't familiar with CitizenM (hotels worldwide) but you quickly get their quirkiness. Location was ideal for public transport: lots of buses, and the Pershing Square metro was 1.5 blocks away. I landed at LAX, took the flyaway bus to Union Station, then metro 2 stops to the hotel. I was able to go to the Getty, Santa Monica, Miracle Mile museums, the Broad-MOCA-Disney Symphonic Hall, and Hollywood easily and for $12.50 for a 7-day metro card. Just allow travel time, LA is big. The hotel location and public transport is a little sketchy, you'll encounter the homeless. I had no real incidences. The breakfast has a great selection of quality items and coffee. The rooms are small, yet well designed, clean and quiet. The ground floor has a lot of different seating spaces ("living rooms") and there's a rooftop patio to hang out in, if you want more space. It's all bright, colorful, and visually stimulating. The price was less than many other hotels in the area, and is even cheaper if you sign up with them. Would I stay at another CitizenM? Absolutely. It's definitely designed for the solo travel or couples. I didn't see any families with kids during my stay. All the pictures I saw are exactly what what I experienced, including the rooms. None of those pictures of the one big, renovated room, with an outstanding view that you DIDN'T get.

Hello citizen Randy, Thanks for your great review and feedback! We love to see that you really enjoyed the hotel, our amenities, art filled spaces and cool tech. DTLA does have its share of homeless and we are doing our best to be good neighbours to support those groups that provide help. As more and more people move back to DTLA to live, work and play things are getting better all the time. Thanks again and we look forward to having you stay with citizenM again soon. Best travels - citizen Ben

Let's call this smart luxury! I've stayed at every class level of hotel, from Europe to Asia and all over the USA and there's nothing like this. You don't get a grand room, in fact it's small, but everything is so smartly placed that I couldn't be happier about my stay.
When you first walk in to the hotel you are greeted by an ambassador right at the front door with what appeared to be 6 or more check in spots. Check in was smooth and took less than 2 minutes! I made my own room key, scanned my own ID and swiped my own card for pre auth. A slip prints out with my room number and I'm directed to the elevator.
The lobby is smartly decorated and natural lighting is used really well. The bar feels really open and airy, the lounging area looks comfortable with lots of seating, there is a separate studying hall with long tables and printers, there's a lounging area with a TV off to the side, and there are even 2 top tables and little nook booths built into the walls (each with their own full size electrical plugs ports). I notice the bar seating even has electrical plus underneath so you can work at the bar too!
I head up to my room and the elevator opens up to a classic Hollywood style carpeting and decor. I love the feel of the red hallways. I tap my key card at my door and push my door open. The door shuts behind me SILENTLY and my room is SO QUIET. It must be soundproofed.
My first thought is this room is tiny. The single sink is small next to the stand up shower / toilet combination. If I was rolling two suitcases into here it might feel crowded. Thankfully I'm a backpacker and I throw my bag onto the bed to take a look around.
There's a comfy chair to work at a small desk meant for a laptop. Next to this an iPad you can remove from the dock to control everything in the room from the TV, the lighting (color and brightness), exact temperature control (which is super quiet, I barely heard it going my entire stay!), music, mood modes, day shade and blackout blinds, and a menu for the bar / food downstairs.
The drawers under the bed slide easily and hold enough space for my entire 40L backpack and then some. There's an easy to use safe as well. I notice the small sink and mirror actually has a decent amount of shelf space underneath as well.
The shower has a curtain if you need more privacy than the opaque glass offers. The shower temperature was great and felt amazing!
All the food I had was amazing.
Breakfast is WORTH IT!
Service 10/10.

Overall it was a good stay, but I had trouble with the bed being too firm, the 2 pillows being really thin, the soundproofing being next to nonexistent, and the tech in my room being extremely finicky (I had to unplug/replug my tv numerous times throughout my stay to get it to work properly and of course that was hard to do). It did have a mini fridge, a nice shower (although the post holding up the handheld did not stay in position which made not getting my hair wet difficult), and water conservation toilet. The towels were weirdly very linty which was hard to get off my hands and I got it in my eyes when trying to put in contacts at one point.
The breakfast buffet was nice although it seems like when you go in the 10-11 timeframe a lot of the food isn't topped up. For the all day food, it is nice to have food served at any time of day, big plus, but it's a shame there aren't more meal/entrees offered and you have to cobble together multiple expensive items to get a filling meal in one sitting (and that's if your items are filled appropriately).
They have an extensive drink menu if that's your thing, but the food offerings are lacking so, so much. Luckily there are other, more reasonable food places around the hotel but it's annoying to *need* to consider them for most of your stay when they specifically say they offer food 24/7 right in the hotel, which was a deciding factor for me. I did appreciate that most items on the menu had prices also showing what they would be if tax were included, but they don't have "room service" or a way to order from your in-room tablet, so you have to call the front desk and give them your order (which they may not understand) then wait for a call back so you can go down to pay and pick it up. A lot of extra steps for nothing coming from a company that wants to be so tech-forward and automated, in my opinion.
The hotel is centrally located in Downtown LA, walking distance from very key places & a short walk from most public transit. It is clean & have certain safety precautions (like having to use an active room key to use the elevator), & the front desk/bar is staffed all day/night. If you sign up for their free membership you get a small discount & some small perks, but it's still nearly $200/night w/ nothing tangible included.
As I said, overall a good stay, but for how expensive so many things were in contrast to what I got, which was a strange hipster art experience, I may pass on this hotel for most trips to LA.

Hello citizen Mardezi, Thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We're really happy you had a good stay. I'm sorry you did experience a few challenges during your stay and we always like to get these fixed as soon as we learn about them. Unfortunately from Trip Advisor I can't tell what room you stayed in, the handheld part of the shower does get lose from use and a quick visit from our engineers can have it nice and tight again and we can easily swap out towels or provide extra when needed. The XL King beds are super comfy and we'll always provide extra pillows and comforters to you can make it just right! Our food and beverage is tasty and quick to serve, we offer a great breakfast buffet with barista made specialty coffees and for the rest of the day delicious comfort food. While citizenM doesn't provide room service we will prepare your order for pick up from the canteen, plus with so many amazing restaurants close by or with just a few clicks on your device you can enjoy anything your heart desires. As for ordering through the app or in-room iPad, we have this on the way! We're glad you appreciated our central location close to public transport and the freeways. Thanks again for trying out citizenM and we hope you'll choose us again even in another city. Best travels - citizen Ben

There is no other hotel in DTLA that offers such a wide diversity of guests, cozy, clean rooms, nice amenities, and amazing staff (aka ambassadors)
I don't require much room to sleep and shower. The styling of the room, the cool adjustable lighting and automatic blinds a plus. The bed was comfortable.
The common areas and meeting rooms are perfect for working outside of the room or just hangin out. The gallery of art is incredible,
The lite bite menu is simple, delicious, and affordable. There is no room service, but you can take the food to your room. Bar is cozy and they make great cocktails and mocktails.
Breakfast is available for just under $20 per person, This may seem steep, but you can eat as much as you want and if you pay for breakfast you are allowed coffee, and barista- made drinks throughout the day at no charge.
For my multiple day stay I wanted a little more variety in the breakfast menu, but it was tasty and did the trick. The hotel is within walking distance of many food options so, this was not a deal breaker.
Any city with a Citizen hotel is getting my business at this point.

citizenM came to my attention due to its proximity to Union Station. The price was fair, and the accommodations seemed quite adequate. The cutesy, self-conscious quirkiness has a peculiar kind of charm to it. The staff, called ambassadors, are extremely helpful, very friendly and hospitable. Their little tablet computer (info and request device) in the room was handy, except when it failed to produce one morning's request for room refreshing.

A very beautiful and unique hotel with an original lobby with lots of space and comfortable seating, amazing and friendly staff, security was always on site too and there were extra measures for security in the evening/at night so I always felt extremely safe, spotless and comfortable room with easily adjustable lightening and temperature - it had a really futuristic feel to it. Location is convenient for a lot of things in Downtown LA, a jug farther away from other areas - but that’s just the size of LA. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

First of all, Los Angeles is not a pretty city in general, so the location of this hotel in downtown could be a downer for some people. Is right in the fringe where the nice part ends and the not-so-nice blocks start, but for us going to The Belasco for a concert, it had a great location.
I loved how clean and safe this place was and also the beds, which made us sleep like babies after long long hours walking around the city. The common spaces were comfy, the drink selection was awesome and the stay was easy and uneventful. Staff is super friendly and responsive, we asked for a couple more pillows and they sent them to us in a blink. We also used the ironing heavens and they are super convenient and spacious if you need to get rid of wrinkles in clothes.
It is not the cheapest option, of course, but for the location and the amenities and the safety of this place, it's worth every dollar. Also no funny extra charges or deposits that take months to be returned to the credit card. I really liked this hotel and will be using the chain for when I need to stay in downtown in cities where they are present.

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting LA for a family wedding. My dad was traveling with us as well and stayed in his own room. Upon arrival, guests can check themselves in using the electronic kiosks at the front desk. For some reason our check in was not able to be successfully completed on the kiosk so an employee had to help us. She was very nice and helpful and kept her composure even while being sternly talked to by another guest regarding a broken air conditioner in their room. However, she did not inform us that our card had not been charged for our room yet, which resulted in our room keys to stop working the next day. I have never had this problem at another hotel. I was very confused about it. It just would've been nice to know that we needed to pay upfront or our keys would stop working until we settled up our charges. However, she did not mention this at all. Our room was very clean when we arrived, no complaints there. Unfortunately my father stayed in a separate room and said that it was not clean upon arrival and even had traces of sand in it. So that is something to be aware of. Also, be warned the bed pillows here are awful. No support whatsoever. It's also important to know that there are no convenience stores/pharmacies/target-like stores within reasonable walking distance of this place, which we found to be frustrating. The closest thing to a convenience store is a smoke shop. So if you aren't renting a car during your visit, be aware of that. Overall, a pretty good experience but there are some things that could've been better.
