First of all, I'm more of a 5 star hotel person, but I had to make a choice between the Hyatt House LA and a 5 star hotel in Beverly Hills that would be 16 miles but up to 40 minutes with traffic away when my family member was recently in the hospital. In the end, I chose the Hyatt House and I was pleasantly surprised that the Hyatt House ended up being the very best option for our situation.

1. I chose a larger room with a living room and kitchen and the price was very reasonable. At the end of a long day at the hospital, all you want to do is collapse, so I would have wasted dollars at a fancy hotel.
2. The convenience of being able to walk back and forth to the hospital each day was perfect. The hospital is just a block away. In retrospect, I wouldn't have been at all comfortable being 25 minutes away at another hotel.
3. L.A. has somewhat of a sketchy reputation, but this neighborhood felt totally safe. On the weekends, it was actually very quiet.
4. The room and areas of the hotel are modern and clean.
5. There is a 24 area for snacks, which was helpful.
6. There is a large attractive lobby with comfortable seating to eat a quick meal at night and a very good natured bartender that serves the meals.
7. I found the front desk staff to be helpful and friendly.
8. My sons loved that there was a Chipotle next to the hotel!
9. We got DoorDash or Uber Eats delivered to the hotel no problem.
10. I didn't get to experience the pool.
11. I'm a very fussy person and I was totally content at the hotel all week. I felt that it perfectly matched the situation when you have a patient nearby at the hospital.
12. They have a self-serve laundry on the 5th floor that was helpful as we started to run out of clean clothes.
13. You will hear in a lot of reviews about the nearby train tracks. Yes, they are a block away, and I could see the train from my windows. But most of the noise was during the day or early evening hours. I don't every recall being woken up in the middle of the night be the train. I also grew up with a freight train that was about 1 to 1.5 miles from my house and I think my brain, therefore, didn't find the train bothersome. When you have a patient in the hospital that you are worried about, in the end, the train was just not a big deal unless you sleep during the day or early evening.

The Hyatt House exceeded my expectations, was reasonably priced, had friendly competent staff and was absolutely perfect when you have someone at USC Keck Hospital.

Nice, spacious corner room with separate bedroom, a sofa bed, kitchen and dining area. We choose this place because they accept our 2 small dogs (with pet fees, of course) and we trusted Hyatt’s cleanliness. There’s a parking fee with in/out privileges. This hotel is located across from the hospital and USC dormitories.
Breakfast is good for to-go, but no daily housekeeping for guests staying less than 5 nights. You’ll have to request for trash liners and towels from front desk. Housekeeping will pick up your trash and dirty towels outside your door.
Laundry room is on the 5th floor. While doing laundry late night on our last night, a guest staying on the 5th floor left trail of vomit on the hallways starting from laundry room door all the way to his/her room. We were careful not to step on it - horribly disgusting! We informed front desk staff about it, but all they can do about it was to cover it up with paper towels until housekeeping arrived the following morning.
Not sure if we’ll stay again. This Hyatt needs to steam clean the guest rooms and hallway carpets a few times a month.

My family and I loved staying at Hyatt House LA.
The hotel was super clean and accommodating with hand sanitizing stations all over. Staff wore face masks and cleaned up at breakfast time. The breakfast bar was set up wonderfully with different stations so people were not crowding.

If you like garbage this is your place. It is in the hallways and on the main floor everywhere. If you like trains then you'll love it here. The train whistles blow all hours of every day. They will give you ear plugs if they are too loud to get sleep. The trains also block one main entrance to the hotel so you need to find an alternative route to get there because the trains will sit there for 30 minutes plus. The food they serve in the morning is honestly inedible. The French Toast is hard and breaks the plastic utensils they give you to try and cut it. The eggs are powdered eggs. They do not clean your rooms except for every 3-days and it requires a 24-hour notice ahead of time. I could go on and on, but will stop here. I would not ever stay again nor would I ever recommend it to anyone either.

The hotel is located across from a cargo train tracks. The train is very loud and during the night it passes by every hr.
It makes a very loud warning honk
5 times every time it passes by.
I don’t think the hotel has good quality double pan windows to reduce the noise.
Our family couldn’t sleep in our 4 night stay. The area surrounding the hotel is not very nice or safe.
There are homeless Incampments and it’s dirty.
The hotel doesn’t offer house keeping daily unless you request it 24hr in advance
They charge $30 for nightly parking which wasn’t mentioned when the reservation was done.
The daily breakfast is very simple and not to the Hyatt name.
The staff seemed friendly
The pool is good enough for a dip

Response from Donna Lewis, Guest Services / Front Office at Hyatt House LA - University Medical Center
Responded 12 Aug 2021
Greetings ! Thank you for choosing Hyatt House LA - University Medical Center for your recent stay. However it is disappointing to hear your stay was not a pleasant one. Unfortunately the state/city Covid19 guidelines in place are impacting our standard practices, such as daily housekeeping and full daily breakfast offerings. You are correct about the possible train noises, however it is not normally every hour. We apologize as it must have been an unusual circumstance during your recent stay. We are in the midst of coming up with multiple solutions to make the noise less bothersome to our guests, including complimentary noise cancelling machines and ear plugs.

Needed three days of medical appointments but live over 100 miles away so rather than the commute on Dodgers Opening day, we were so excited to see this 6 month newly built hotel available within walking distance to Keck USC. Great take away breakfast offered, Pool and spa reservations available to insure social distancing and saran wrapped green apples at the desk shows care during the pandemic. Fridge, microwave and coffee available in room was very convenient and helps with social distancing. The bed pillows were awesome! A very Warm welcome on arrival. Great relaxing stay while under medical testing and concerns. THIS was a medical necessity stay. A bit pricey but comfortable, safe and close to medical facility was required for this visit.

We were very happy with our stay. The hotel was a 5-10 minute walk to the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Care Hospital. Upon checking in, the guest services representative assigned us a room that was on the side of the building that is furthest away from the train. We appreciated her letting us know about this. Our room was very comfy and had a microwave and mini fridge which made our stay convenient for heating up our own food and having cold drinks. The breakfast was very good and had enough variety to please anybody. I liked that they use real flatware and plates, and not paper and plastic-ware. We were very comfortable at this hotel and will definitely stay again.

It’s about 10 mins from downtown and Dodger stadium so able to get to a lot of places quickly without needing to be in the city. Really quiet area next to USC housing for the medical center. Rooms are only cleaned on the 5th night of your stay and were short on towels. We had 5 people and were given 5 towels total, we asked for new ones and they said they didn’t have anymore and to bring the ones we used so they can be washed which makes sense but have never been asked to do that in order to get more than 2 more towels. The kitchenette was a great addition for leftovers. Most of the staff is very helpful and go above and beyond to help. Overall good stay if you’re looking a low key area.

For the amount of money we spent you should think our customer service would be pleasant but that was not the case AT ALL!! We had to in advance book for them to clean the room, they didn't show for 2 days. We were 2 families in the room so it was definitely needed. We had to clean our own room because "it was out of their hands" and "the system must have glitched."

We then had to flag the cleaner down in the morning she said she would come right after the room she was cleaning and never came. We had to call them yet again to tell her to come to us. We expressed our frustration and they said they would comp our parking for the days staying.

Well we thought let's stay one more night and they stated they would discount the stay for that night. We asked that the room be serviced while we were gone since we were staying an extra night and yet again there was nothing done.

This afternoon when checking out we are told since they discounted the room our parking would be charged and that it had to be one or the other. This was not discussed when we originally were booking the extra night.

Booker beware that you cab stay else where for a better price and not have to worry about having to go get your own towels and tiolet paper because they do not bring it to your door either. The tell you on the phone to come down for it when you call. When I asked for a trash bag to clean the room that was not serviced for 2 days they gave us the small trash bags and lied saying they had nothing else. Well the night before we left we asked another front desk worker who provided us a big trash bag with no problem. This was our first time staying in this establishment and were wishing it would be a great turn out and yet it ended up being a disaster!!!

The hotel is updated and modern but there are areas that need major improvement. The room had a weird smell our entire stay and I had to buy a plug-in to mask the smell. There is a train nearby and we got caught behind it for about 20 minutes one night and the location of the hotel is difficult. It is also not in the best location with no amenities nearby. The AC in the room is very loud and the vents are right in the sleeping areas which made it difficult to sleep. Also upon check-in we were given the wrong room and walked in on other guests. Lastly they use Chromecast TV

We stay there for the weekend every month. After complaining many times about the forced valet parking, this past weekend they have made valet parking optional so you can self-park your car. Regarding the train, you can ask for a room facing away from the tracks. You will still hear the train because the horn blowing is very loud. That being said, I was able to sleep through it. The train can block the street right next to the hotel but you can go left instead of right to get around it. Don't wait for the train to pass. It oftentimes stops for a long time. Even though we no longer go to the USC hospital, we still stay at this hotel because the rooms have kitchenettes, the hotel is dog friendly, and the location is convenient.

I only used the microwave, but the convection oven was to be just that, as I was told by the front desk. It should be doable.

Hi - My husband and stepson are staying at this hotel right now. He walks to a Starbucks nearby that he says is probably 1/2 mile round trip. I hope this helps!
