Hotel Per La, Autograph Collection stands out for its combination of history and modern chic decor, creating an ambiance that captivates many guests. Its prime downtown location is a highlight for guests looking to explore the city's attractions and nightlife. While the service receives accolades for attentiveness, the hotel's value is somewhat marred by additional fees that some travelers didn't anticipate. The rooms are a mix of comfort and style, though some guests mention issues with soundproofing and amenities. On the upside, the hotel's cleanliness, especially in the rooms, is consistently praised.

I often frequent this hotel as they are centrally located in the city and welcome large dogs. The restored historic building is stunning, and the lobby and rooms are clean and luxuriously appointed. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable, and the linens always feel so soft and thick. The rooftop has an interesting fireplace and amazing views of the city, and there is a poolside bar and restaurant on the rooftop as well (the rose spritz cocktail at the rooftop bar is my favorite!).

The service I receive is top notch--from the valet, to the bellmen (the tall guy with the braids is awesome, as is the guy with the glasses!), to the front desk, to the security. I enjoy getting coffee in the lobby and chatting with some of the staff, most notably the friendly security guard with the 49ers tie. I have only encountered two rude employees: one woman who seemingly works in the lobby restaurant in the mornings, and the other, who, from what I gathered, is the Security Director named Sunny. Sunny had a very poor attitude and I witnessed him berating his employee in the lobby, which made me and other guests feel uncomfortable. Neither of these employees smiled at me, other guests, or even their coworkers. Their level of professionalism falls way short of what I expect and normally experience at this hotel.

We stayed one night at Hotel Per La, selecting the location for its proximity to Union Station where we were boarding an Amtrak train the next morning. We found it incredibly stylish and enjoyed the decor in our room as well as in the lounge and main areas of the hotel. The character and architectural details of the original bank building have been retained in a number of areas, and the craftsmanship that went into the original construction is incredible. Modern Italian design touches liven things up.
Our room with two queen beds was very spacious and had loads of light from large windows with downtown views. It was furnished with interesting antique/retro-ish furniture and wall art, and extremely comfortable beds. The room was very quiet considering the location and the windows had double coverings that allowed you to shut out light if you wished. The bathroom was very bright and attractive, with a huge walk-in shower with lots of water pressure; the sink for some reason had much less pressure. Great terry dressing gowns and loads of fluffy towels were provided.
The doormen gave us a great initial welcome when we arrived, helpfully pointing out a place we could park for free very close to the hotel, when we told them we were leaving early in the morning. Front desk staff were also very pleasant and when we were interested in some of the design aspects of the building, guided us to the basement to show us the original bank vault and safety deposit boxes still in place (with the area repurposed as a vestibule to the washrooms!).
There are many slightly quirky (in a good way!) design elements that make you stop to take a closer look. Dramatic dark wall colours bring style to hallways and elevator lobbies.
We enjoyed themed cocktails in the bar/lounge area, which is a beautiful blend of old and new design, again with Italian touches such as the Venetian arches over the bar. It was a very comfortable place to relax and chat.
We were too late for swimming in the rooftop pool but enjoyed seeing it at night and it would have been a lovely space to spend some time in the day or evening.
The only issue we had was trying to figure out where to park, to check in and unload our luggage when we arrived, as we couldn't see any sign for the hotel and the entrance door wasn't very well marked. We arrived after dark so possibly this wouldn't have been a problem in daylight hours.
I would definitely stay here again in future if an opportunity arises, as I found the property really interesting and very comfortable.

The nomad is a different beast, the hotel is ran so smoothly from the moment you walk in you feel like you are the only person there. Very beautiful and full of life. The restaurants are the best of the best. The cafe has the best latte, trey everything it is worth it.

I have stayed at the Nomad Hotel before it was Hotel Per LA many times. It was always excellent. The new owners need to go through each room and seriously look at the condition of the furniture. Glancing everything looks nice but when you actually use it, there are flaws.

If you are simply going to sleep and shower, no worries, the bed is excellent and the shower divine.

If your stay is more than a day, getting in room service for a room cleaning and mini bar refill is problematic and requires more effort than you want your attention spent on.

It is a beautiful building, I love the style and grandeur. The elevators work great (you need a key to work them) and are secure.

The Roof Bar is lovely. It would be nice if they had more savory small plates. I ordered the goat cheese with sundried tomato and pita bread. This was delicious.

I had a nice experience. I will try again in 6 - 8 months and see if the "during my stay" service improves. The staff attitude is excellent, friendly, they seem sincere in wanting to assist. The carry through is lacking. Maybe they need more staff to run things to a room or clean in stay rooms and this will work itself out.

Don’t stay here unless you have to. If you want to see its cool features (e.g. vault, pool, mirror hall), just come for lunch or dinner and look around. The restaurant is pretty good. To stay here is like staying at a clean version of a roadside motel.

Facilities: (1) The “old fashioned” faucet over the bathroom sink gives you either cold or scalding hot water. (2) The bedside tables are very small: hardly any space for your personal items. Only one side had working outlets. (3) There is no outlet near the only table in the room: your only choice is to unplug the lamp.

Courtyard: I booked the “Patio Salon” that features “a private patio with lush garden views…” (the feature photo of the hotel on this site). There is nothing private about the patio: it is courtyard you share with all the rooms around it that sits at the bottom of a well surrounded on all sides by 10 stories of concrete. In the morning scent of smoke and marijuana wafted into my room from smokers in that courtyard (security was quick to come once reported), and in the evening party noises echoed loudly until 1am, even on week nights.

Dining/Sustainability: (1) Restaurant and bar close at 10pm, and room service stops at 11pm, after which your only option is the minibar, which is pathetically stocked. There is really no convenience store that you’d want to walk to late at night nearby. (2) Plastic town: poolside dining offers only four pre-made cold items in plastic boxes. When you do get in-room dining, it is also delivered in plastic boxes. If this was a roadside motel, I would not expect more, but the price and advertising are not roadside motel.

Service: This was perhaps the worst of all. Days before my arrival, I specifically requested the removal of down comforters and pillows from my bed, and had emails confirming they agreed to do that. When I arrived at nearly midnight, I found down comforter and pillows on my bed. The poor night receptionist had to go to housekeeping to find extra sheets and foam pillow (and no one was at the reception desk when he did that because he was the only worker). He told me he could see the notation in the record of my request, and assured me someone from management would contact me to apologize the next day. No one did. When I wrote to the front desk, the front desk manager claimed she “attempted to call” me during the day. When I asked what time, she gave me a time when I was in fact I the room on a Zoom meeting, and know for a fact the phone did not ring. She could also have contacted me through email or even a written note. Not apologizing is one thing: telling tales is quite another.

I love this establishment. I have come many times for brunch, and to grab a drink to watch sunset. Choosing to spend the night had some let downs. Strong chemical detergent smells on the bedding almost unbearable. Single use cheap toiletries to wash with. I requested a room with 2 beds and it would have been $200 more than booking price, unusual price jump that is normally a lesser valued option in hotels. Pool bar didn't really have any vegetarian options to eat.
The ambiance, the art, the amenities are all top notch, but it seems like for this price, the hotel could do these small things to accommodate their patrons. Full size quality shp/cond, non toxic detergent for linens, vegetarian options at the pool. I believe in you.

Dear Jtee777, Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to share the feedback you have. It is through guest feedback that we can provide the experience we wish to deliver to all of our guests. I am so glad to hear you enjoy coming to Bar Clara and Ristorante Per Lora to dine with us, but I am saddened to hear your room experience did not deliver the same. In September of this year, we transitioned to an Autograph Collection by Marriott, and this changed a lot of the in-room amenities you are referring to. At this time our property only offers rooms with 2 queen beds in a studio suite. This is not a standard room with 2 queen beds, it is a much larger suite. Please know this is the reason for the updated pricing. I have shared your feedback with our GM of Bar Clara and Executive Chef to ensure our menus are properly set up to accommodate a variety of dietary needs.   Again, I want to take the time to thank you for sharing the feedback you have with us. We sincerely apologize for not delivering on the experience we pride ourselves on. We hope that when your travel returns you to the Los Angeles area you will give us another opportunity to earn your loyalty. Skylar Gustavson Assistant Director of Front Office

A unique feel throughout the hotel. Rooms have an almost "steam punk" like aesthetic with buttons and toggle switches and interesting light fixtures. Lobby has a cool mirrored hallway and comfy reception area. Textured ceilings in the elevator hallway and engraved metal doors on elevators. The restaurant has tall textured ceilings along with the bathrooms in a bank vault, and the servers are knowledgeable and helpful. And all the staff were very pleasant. Overall a unique experience!

What else can I say other than the money they spend on marketing should be spent in clean bedsheets, friendlier management and proper health guidelines. As far as I can see there’s an investigation in room 507, Probably the whole management team now too, but catch them blaming the sanitation team and saying “human mistakes happen” and refusing to apologize and having a subordinate apologize instead. Save your energy, the vibes are fake and not safe.

Gorgeous decor, perfect location, exceptional service. Hotel Per La has everything you could want in a high end boutique hotel. The on-site dining options are carefully curated with excellent pairing options. The thoughtfulness of the staff and their ability to anticipate the needs of the guests is an added bonus and speaks to the quality of their professionalism.

My wife and I stayed for over a week in one of their suites and took advantage of the central location to explore the city, meet friends and family at the multiple fine dining establishments nearby, and even walked through a movie set being filmed outside the hotel. Special recognition goes to Eddie for his personable and professional engagement with us throughout our stay. He was accommodating and welcoming and made us feel at home and appreciated throughout the duration of our stay. His tips and suggestions for experiencing LA like locals was greatly appreciated.

Being no stranger to accommodations that publicize themselves as “luxury accommodations”, Hotel Per La stands head and shoulders above the commercialized luxury staples. It’s dedicated staff create a truly magnificent experience that enhances the gorgeous decor of the property. 10 out of 10 will stay again.

I was really looking forward to my stay and the fact that this hotel was just what I was looking for in atmosphere.
When the front desk agent told me I was on the 12th floor , I told her that the room I had asked for was on the ground floor that looked into a patio ( the pix of it on the website ). She said she knew what I was referring to but those rooms weren’t open yet. I pointed out that I didn’t want city or sky view. She put me in a courtyard view. The room overlooked the wall of the next building, the room was small and I inviting. Because I was really looking forward to the other rooms , I went back to the front desk and told her that I’d prefer to cancel because it’s not what I had wanted. I wasn’t upset nor agitated. Things happen. She told me she needed to get the ok from the manager. The manager was sitting next to her , helping other guests and just waved her hand ( as you would when you want someone to go , shooing them away )and said it was ok. She didn’t even stop to look at me - not then, and not even after. There was no apology. No eye contact. That’s poor customer service.
The front desk agent was kind enough to apologize
To that front desk assistant director ( or whatever her title was )
Look your guests in the eye when something goes wrong and be gracious enough to offer an apology at the very least. If it were my hotel , I would have offered you a discount on when those rooms would open so you could come back, maybe even offered a drink or a snack so you can experience the hotel even more. That’s customer service. Not shooing your guests away.
Just sorely disappointed.
I really wanted to experience this place and have it be an amazing weekend getaway

Los Angeles and San Francisco unfortunately have a high population of homelessness. However, the hotel is in Downtown Los Angeles, which is rapidly gentrifying. Listen, if you are visiting a major city, homelessness is part of the experience. That said, the hotel is gorgeous and we felt safe and unbothered. Hotel security is tight & the rooftop pool is an oasis.
