Detailed Reviews
I was unsure of where to stay on our vacation. I am so glad I picked here. The room was ready and clean, across from a restaurant that had the BEST steak I've ever eaten, a block away from another hotel that had a great bar that sat on the ocean. Took a short drive to the pier and went to Catalina for a day. The host, Nick and Hostess, Morgan (what a doll) were so friendly and helpful I couldn't ask for more. For those that complained about noise...I dont get it; for those that said it smelled damp, I dont get that either. My room was very comfy and any smell was fresh ocean air (not damp, lol). To end, I would so stay here again and recommend this place to anyone that asked. Hope to see you guys again.

I should have posted much sooner, we no sooner returned from our absolutely FABULOUS stay at the Capri Laguna and we had to pack quickly to head back to Canada due to Corona Virus. I have lost track of time since then.
Every night I dream of the day when safe travel can resume, and we can return to Capri Laguna. We felt so welcomed and attended to by ALL the staff. We were invited for cake at a client birthday celebration; the staff came down to the beach to put out chairs and umbrella for us, and when we first arrived the front desk asked if we wanted to check out a few available rooms so we could decide if we wanted to upgrade (and we did, there are so many choices).
We got a great room next to the huge sun deck where you have a fantastic view of the ocean and sunset. It was on the top level, so lots of stairs down to the beach but we were so happy to be in a hotel right on the beach that had beach access.
From the beach looking back, I felt like I was in Greece. Beautiful white building tiered down the side of the cliff. It is an old hotel, but the staff work hard to maintain it and it is super clean. There is a complimentary serve yourself breakfast in the lobby and coffee. We loved the location. For us it was close enough to walk everywhere we wanted to go. We were thrilled to have onsite parking and we got a great spot and just left our vehicle there for our entire 3-night stay.
There was a nice protected pool on the lobby level (no ocean view from the pool). The kids were enjoying it, but we preferred to sit at the beach and be cooled by the ocean breeze.
There are no elevators which was not a problem for us (age 62 and 55) but thought I would mention it in case you have physical challenges. You can however get a room close to the lobby and then use your car to drive to the main beach access in town where there are no stairs.
Thank you Nick (manager) for creating such a warm and friendly environment. We will be back as soon as we can. Thinking of you and all your staff in this very difficult time. Stay safe, sane and healthy.

My husband, 2 year-old and I decided to take a little weekend trip from San Diego to Laguna for a change of scenery and needed some place close but didn't want to do a staycation. Capri Laguna was the perfect boutique hotel for us! It was quick drive and when we arrived, the Bachir at the front desk who greeted me was personable and very helpful. The check in was quick. There is a light breakfast available in the lobby with foods such as bread and bagels individuall wrapped, as well as fruits and cereal boxes. There is also coffee that you can grab in the morning if you dont want the room coffee. We stayed in the oceanview suite, king bed with a living room. It was so nice to have the separation! The room was absolutely amazing and the views of the ocean, the sounds of the waves immediately put us all in vacation mode. The room was clean enough although some areas looked a little older but I suspect being so close to the ocean, the upkeep could be difficult. Being close to the water and seeing/hearing the sounds of the waves was the biggest requirement for us. There are also several restaurants that are walking distance so we did not need to hop in the car. Behind the hotel is also access to the beach, which felt extremely private. There are tons of steps to get down to the actual beach, FYI. We can't wait to go back and I would highly recommend this place. The manager Nick and his team are extremely kind and hospitable!

Pros:
On the beach location.
Walking distance to some great food.
Attentive and helpful staff.
Facilities in and out are clean and well kept.
Issues and concerns:
Subjective "average" ratings by comparisons to past beach hotels with similar prices.
During the Covid-19 event note that certain services at hotels are suspended.
Beach access by stairs, depending on your room location and physical health condition can be strenuous. For example, from our room to the beach involved approximately 96 stair steps.
The stairs issue is common to nearly if not all beach access point in Laguna.
Recommendations:
As with anything, shop around and take into account the taxes and fees.
Room descriptions should be verified by contacting the property prior to placing reservations.
Lesson learned:
If you are local to Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange county areas consider driving home instead of staying overnight at Laguna beach. For example, living in the San Fernando Valley the drive time is about 1.7 hours to Laguna Beach and you have to drive back anyway even if you stay over night.

This place is a gem! The oceanfront rooms are reasonably priced and totally worth every penny! The view is spectacular and our room had a little balcony with a bistro table and chair set to sit, people watch and listen to the waves. The room wasn't huge, but it was perfect for the two of us and our pup.
Capri Laguna is very dog friendly, we paid $50 extra for the stay. There was a stretch of grass right outside our room so our furbaby could potty at night.
The beach is steps away, literally a few steps down! We had a great time walking up and down the beach.
Staff were great! Room comes with continental breakfast (waffles, coffee, tea, oj, boiled eggs, pastries, cereal, etc) and parking.
We will be back! Loved this place so much!

I researched hotels in Laguna for hours. My heart was yearning for oceanfront with the sound of ocean without having to mortgage the house like so many hotels in this area. We had the room with partial view and so worth it. What I love about this hotel is there are several places to pull up a chair right at the ocean’s break. We sat at the ocean until 8:30 at night with the lights they turn on toward the ocean. From our room we could hear the ocean while we slept. Room 751. Bashir was a wonderful host and we sat and talked about his family and his six years here. He is so gracious and made our experience wonderful. We considered a luxury hotel, however so glad we stayed here. The rooms are smaller, yet clean and regardless of room all guests can enjoy direct access to beach. Partial ocean view for sleeping added to the rejuvenation. We don’t want to leave.

Came for a quickly couples getaway. Spectacular location on a bluff above the pacific, and great staff.
Our visit wasn't without issues - we actually had a very loud party next to us that highlighted that the walls are perhaps not as thick as would be most desirable, but to their credit, the front desk was very responsive in quieting it down. We also felt like the rooms - especially the ocean view with fireplace room we stayed in - could use a little TLC.
However, we were so impressed by the location and the attentiveness of the staff (especially in dealing with some of the issues we had!) that I can confidently recommend giving it a shot.

We had 2 rooms at Capri over winter break. The larger room (605) was oceanfront with 2 Kings, a sleeper sofa, a dining area and an awesome fireplace! We loved it!!!! It was also conveniently close to the parking and lobby (many rooms are staggered down lots of stairs)
From the moment we arrived Nic and Bashir welcomed us so warmly. From a wine and cheese reception Friday evening to a cute breakfast (the pancake machine is awesome and so is the Starbucks coffee machine), be sure to take your breakfast and sit on the gorgeous upper terrace! We spent a lot of time there just drinking in the gorgeous view, playing backgammon and drinking wine.
The location could not be better! Walkable everywhere! We didn't move our car till we left.
Being on the beach couldn't really be taken advantage of in the winter but I imagine in warmer weather that it's great!
It was a charming, lovely and unpretentious hotel and we would definitely come back!

My fiance and I frequent this beautiful beachfront hotel 2 or 3 times a year. We've sampled several of the rooms, although I am always partial to getting one with an ocean view so there are about 3 that we prefer, depending on how much we want to spend. There is ample parking and even an extra lot about a block down which probably is useful during the Summer months. In wintertime, the sand level washes low exposing rock formations on the beach. I believe come May the sand comes back and mostly covers the rocks at the base of the hotel. An interesting natural event to say the least. The first time we came I had to ask "where did the sand go"?! The manager Nick is top notch, extremely friendly and one time even brought us roses. The continental breakfast is a bit slimmer than pre-Covid times, but is still stocked with english muffins, bagels, yogurts, bread, all the fixings and of course the Starbucks machine. I highly recommend this Laguna Beach hotel

This place is not truly one star (prob 2-3), but there are some very important points that could seriously disappoint some people.
If you are any kind of discerning vacationer, be prepared that this is a hotel serving people who use groupon to eat at Chinese buffets. Pot smoking is a serious problem here (now legal in Calif) and if you have your balcony door open to enjoy the ocean, you will smell a lot of pot. This is extremely annoying. If you read reviews for other hotels, this is becoming a problem everywhere. We had the floor above us dump their cooler of dirty water over the balcony and onto our deck. Fortunately we were not sitting out there at the time. They also allow pets, so your room could have been a pet place before you. They do not do a great job of cleaning.
The management is professional and friendly, but they are fighting a losing battle. The building is quite run down and weather beaten in many places. Parking is terrible and the cramped overflow lot down the street is next to a very shady half-way house.
Some of the rooms look like there has been an attempt to remodel them, but the carpets were still dirty and the bathroom door is a weird smoked glass. No counter space in the bathrooms. At night if you turn on the bathroom light it illuminates the entire room. Very poorly thought out. The furniture in the rooms is run down and looks like it had been used for who knows what. A musty smell is often present.
It is a cliff property on a beach, so stairs are expected but there are seemingly endless steep byzantine steps up and down everywhere. Some of them quite treacherous to navigate.
On the plus side, it is centrally located and does have a private beach. The ocean sound is very nice.
We will not be back.

I totally agree with Abbey. The view from our ocean front room was great. Although a bit breezy, it was worth the price to see and hear the ocean outside of our room. Even spotted a dolphin swimming just offshore.
We had car service to and from the airport. You do not need a car in town. There are multiple free trolley’s that run until approximately 9pm. The closest grocery store is Ralph’s it is on the free trolley line. The road is very busy but there are sidewalks and many people walking.
Yes. The office is always staffed.
We took the free trolley that runs regularly along PCH. Not good with distance but we walked to some great restaurants for breakfast, lunch and happy hour, dinner. Not Pacific Edge
