Embassy Suites by Hilton Los Angeles Downey is recognized for its convenient central location, appealing to guests keen on exploring local amenities or attending events. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere and spacious rooms are often highlighted, although unexpected karaoke events may take some by surprise.
Despite the complimentary breakfast and room space earning praise, several travelers have voiced dissatisfaction with value, citing steep rates and additional parking costs. Cleanliness and service receive mixed reviews, with some guests commending the tidiness and staff attentiveness, while others report issues with room maintenance and amenity shortages, such as towels and appliances.

Detailed Reviews
We really liked the location because it was not far from downtown LA and it was an easy drive to other destination around the LA area. The rooms were recently updated and they were quite spacious. We did have a few minor problems with our room and we had to move out of the first room we were in because it was obvious that someone had smoked in the room despite the fact that it was non-smoking room. Service was very good. The included breakfast was pretty good and it appeared that the entire breakfast area had been remodeled as well.

The rooms at this Embassy Suites are pretty standard for this chain and the ones we stayed in were in decent shape. On our 2nd stay we checked in early and they waived the steep early check in fee, but we were put in a room right in front of the elevator. It was noisy in the sitting area of the room, but quiet enough in the bedroom area.
Be aware when reserving a room that this hotel's listing for a room with 2 beds may not actually have two beds. On both visits we were told that we had reserved rooms with a single bed and a sofa bed, not what we reserved and not an acceptable practice. This location charges for parking which was initially a surprise in suburban L.A.
One of the main reasons to come to an Embassy Suites hotel is the breakfast and what is provided here is excellent. They make omelets to order and the other prepared foods are hot and fresh. The staff serving staff is friendly and efficient too, as was the staff clearing tables. It made for a pleasant morning on both of our stays and made up for the hotels other issues.

We always booked the E.S. in Downey as our first hotel when visiting US and so we did this time (1.-3. Sep). Back than we had a wonderful check in with a friendly young man (Elias) who made us feel welcome and appreciated. Only because of him and the overall E.S. experience at other locations we decided to book the same hotel as well as the E.S. in Irvine for our last week in California.
When we came back to Downey and checked in (Sep 16-18) we met Maria "frontdesk supervisor'. We were a bit early as traffic from Big Bear was lighter than expected but hoped to be lucky. There was no 'welcome' no 'welcome back' no 'how was your trip' no we are happy you're back and chose the A.S." there was nothing, no recognition of HH, no water again nothing but an unfriendly we only have '2 rooms' when asking very polite if we could have the same room as two weeks ago she was again rude and unfriendly (raising eyebrows) "oh that's another category and costs extra..." so she offered two available rooms. One of the two rooms where facing the main street, one room the theater at the side ... I told her I'm a light sleeper and would not want to face the traffic on the frontstreet - guess which way our room was facing? Correct the front street. There's no one I could have escalated it as she is the front desk supervisor.
In times like nowadays I thought customer loyalty is appreciated and a returning customer on a 3 weeks trip with 100s of choices in LA and OC County even more so. But Maria made it abundantly clear that this is not the case in "her hotel" we reached out to @hiltonhonours guestservice and received an automated apologetic email with a promise to follow up within 3 business days. Of course neither the GM nor any management reached out during our stay but as a little revenge they up charged us an early check in fee as we showed up at 1pm !!!
Again the only person with customer service attitude was Elias who assigned us a different room after he heard the unbearable train noise at 11pm. So for this stay, both the hotel itself but also #Hiltonhonors failed big time to appreciate their loyal customers. We will not get back or stay back at this hotel nor would we recommend it to anyone who expects a minimum of customer service. The stay and the management team would deserve a 1* rating, only because of Elias and his 5* customer service attitude we give it a 3* rating.

Before booking and wasting your money call and ask if they have made improvements in the areas of customer service, cleanliness and accommodations. Check In line was long and took :30 mins plus. The hotel appeared to be purposely short staffed leaving 1 front desk representative to handle calls, check in, check out and guest concerns. The hotel was not clean and Covid-19 safety measures appeared to be neglected by management. Floors were dirty, dusting of vents needs to be done, stickers on each door do not break away when door opens meaning they could be reused. Bed duvet was stained, sheets thin and walls were dirty. We purchased a premium room double queen room and were confused when the only difference was receiving a bag of chips, a candy and 2 sodas at check in. We requested a walk in shower due to elderly disability. We were granted a small restroom with a shower/tub combo that had hair inside. Sinks and shower drains were clogged. Light switches, elevator button, and door knobs were evidently not cleaned throughout our stay. Check out was the easiest and quickest process. Parking is limited although you have to pay for it and there is no security to watch over vehicles. Calling today to inform management.

The floor was sticky in my suite and there were spots that looked like it was not vacuumed properly. I asked the front desk for the room to be cleaned, and they said with COVID 19 housekeepers do not go into the room until it has been vacated for 72 hours. When I asked if I could get a mop or a vacuum to clean the floor myself, the lady said that they had no sanitization wipes and was overall very unsympathetic. Also, the breakfast offered right now is a couple of nature valley bars and coffee.

Horrible hotel- they have a policy where the system does not allow the air conditioner to function. The only thing that they allow- is the heater.
I’m not sure in what months or days they allow guest to access the air conditioning - but the result was miserable hot night.
Bathrooms dirty. As with low grade hotels — typically the maids do not pay attention to basic cleaning methods.
Also, the bottom of the bathroom door was coming off —I really did feel I was at an old Motel 6.
These issues are unacceptable especially for the price that you pay.

My family and I stayed at this hotel from 11/03/2023 to 11/05/2023. We traveled from Arizona to attend a family function and chose this hotel because it was only 20 minutes away from our family member and the room could accommodate 6 of us. I got a call at 9:24 pm as we were only 10 minutes away and I was told that the suite with two queen beds was unavailable/sold out, so we were placed in a King room. I made it clear that there were 6 of us but was told once again that they did not have any Queen rooms available. Given the time of day and the fact that we have been driving for almost 6 hours, obviously, we didn't have a choice but to stay. The parking fee was waived, and I was told that I would receive a 50% discount and that we would be moved to a Queen room the next morning. We were assigned room 621, which only came with two set of towels and wash cloths for 6 of us.
Morning Day 2: The hotel had a free breakfast buffet which was another reason we chose this hotel. With 2 adults and 4 children, the cost to eat out can be expensive at times so I was delighted that the breakfast was included.
The buffet had a decent selection, but I was turned off at the at the fact that we had to use meal tickets to participate and could only get one entree. If we wanted more pancakes or eggs we couldn't. And furthermore, I thought it was poor taste to have a tip basket at the breakfast stations. The service is ALWAYS appreciated, but at almost $300 a night, I felt pressured to tip for a service that was already included. Furthermore, there were multiple tables that remained dirty from other guests, so we were limited on where we could sit for breakfast.
After breakfast, we were moved to a Queen room at around 1030am. The front desk representative also informed me that she ensured that we had enough towels for all 6 of us. Well, to our surprise, we had plenty of towels but didn't know we had to ask for washcloths separately. The queen room was slightly larger than the King room: however, the exhaust fan in the bathroom did not work, the tub faucet was dripping, we did not have additional bedding for the fold out couch, no cups for coffee in the room, and the mini fridge was dripping.
My family and I frequent the Hilton series of hotels because we enjoy the vibe and atmosphere of the hotels, and the rooms are pretty sizeable and can accommodate the 6 of us comfortably. Despite the convenient location of this hotel, I would not stay at this location again. For the price we paid for our stay, in general, there were too many shortcomings that made this location subpar compared to others we have stayed at. To add, even though parking was waived, at almost $300 a night, parking should not be additional. I should not have to tip for buffet service. I should not receive phone calls at 930pm indicating that my prepaid room is not available. I should not have to ask for additional towels especially after changing rooms when I have made it clear that there are 6 of us. For a room that accommodates 6 people, I should not have to ask for additional bedding. I should have a fully functional bathroom and a fully functional fridge.
And to date, I still have not received my 50% refund for our stay. So I say, if you're planning on staying in the Downey area, you may want to consider a different hotel.

Hotel turns off AC as well as your fan at night when outside temperature reaches 70 degrees or less. Very false advertising about not disclosing this before or at time of check in. Karaoke sound from the bar is mind numbing. Vibrates throughout the building and even into your room. Smell of Weed permeates from many rooms at seeps into your room. Front desk did not honor Military discount as disclosed on their website. Buffet food is basically inedible and they even ran out of bacon and forks and knives. Juice machine did not work and good luck finding coffee creamer.
This just is not Embassy Suites standards that I and my family are used to.

I am a Hilton Diamond Member and picky with my hotel choices. We stayed here for a family spring break trip to LA. I was impressed upon coming in to the room. I chose this hotel because I look for upgraded rooms that don’t have carpet and clean/updated bathrooms. My husband, myself and daughter stayed in a king bedroom suite. It was perfect because we were able to have the king bedroom with privacy and she used the sofa sleeper with a door separating the rooms. She (11yo) said the mattress on the sofa sleeper was surprisingly comfortable and felt like a “regular” mattress. There was a small dining table with a sink, fridge and microwave in the kitchenette. All the finishes were updated and appeared clean. The bathroom was updated with clean shower tiles and no mildew/mold in corners. All our staff interactions were positive and the breakfast saved us the extra cost of eating out in the morning. We had hot, made to order omelettes and other hot food options. The gym was nice as well. My husband went daily. We will stay here again next time we visit LA.

Generally speaking the premium suites just mean that there is a basket of snacks and non-alcoholic beverages in the room, that they replenish daily. It doesn’t guarantee a high floor, but if you are a Hilton Honors member you can put it in your profile and they are pretty good about getting folks what’s in the profiles.
"Indoor Pool is steamy and small. Property and rooms are very nice but, the overall rudeness of the staff is a waste. "Read full review
