I wanted to like this place and say that people were just not understanding what a guesthouse was, but after our stay, and other stays around Iceland, I can’t.

Pluses - Clean, good location about 35 km west of Vik, great views behind the property up into the mountains, just north of Hwy 1, private bathroom. The common room upstairs was actually pretty decent though up an almost ladder to get to the 2nd floor.

Minuses - Tiny rooms that got hot even in May. Loud when people left in the morning. Maybe a foot between twin beds. Shower was 2 shower tiles wide.

It was closer in feel to a hostel than a guesthouse. The south coast is expensive but pay a little more to get a lot more.

I read the reviews thinking it couldn’t be as bad as people are saying but unfortunately it is.

We arrived for check-in at 4 PM but didn’t receive an email with our room access code like we were supposed to. So we used the phone provided to call them. No answer. We tried calling them for over an hour and got no response. Eventually a woman answered but as soon as I said hello she hung up on me. We tried emailing, what’s app messaging and calling until 9PM. Eventually we had to call Hotels.com and they helped us re-book somewhere else.

Our friend also didn’t get his code. There was another couple there who got their code for their room, but it didn’t work.

There is no one on the premises to help.

No cold water, which means no water for the toilet... so after using it I tried to flush it down with the shower head using hot water, it broke, boiling water everywhere... it was the worst experience I ever had in a hotel (guesthouse) or whatever you can call this place.

Guesthouse , Cottages , Campsite surrounded by beautiful hills, large open area. There was 6 of us and we took 3 rooms at the guesthouse and we did some light cooking at the kitchen. Very relaxing place . Rooms are small but neat n clean. Wifi available and parking is easy.

Located somewhere along the motorway. A bit tricky to find as the signage is quite sudden especially night time. Supposed to cancel but the management applies a week cancellation policy and was just few mins late. Plenty of parking around the guesthouse. No reception and people on site, check in was alright with instructions in email. 2 floors and upper floor has common lounge and small eating area. Rooms are very tiny and the bathroom like in planes. Clean although some parts are not as expected. No space for luggage and it’s quite tight in the room. I am aware Iceland is quite pricey but I’ve gotten myself a better farmhouse with this price. We end up leaving after 1st night and forfeit the 3 days stay.

This may be a budget hotel but, considering nearby options, I was more than happy to spend one night here. Great location, ensuite bathrooms, good price. The room is small and pretty bare but had a heater, shower, two beds, and a warm blanket. The only issue was the noise of some rowdy guests and the creaky wooden floors.

I don't mind places which offer self check-in as I don't enjoy rushing to be there by a certain time. The codes for the hotel itself and our room worked without a problem.

The mountain views are absolutely stunning. The location is fantastic, right between two major waterfalls (Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss), half an hour from Vik, just under two hours from Reykjavík. Good spot to stopover.

Cleanliness extremely questionable. From the bedding to the bathroom.
Flies in the room that would not leave.
Miniscule room that's smaller even that those in tokyo, which i don't understand because you have lots of land in iceland.
Closet sized bathroom with the flush that leaked from the moment i entered and then stopped working after 4 flushes. odd sized shower of 1.8 X 3 feet which meant you have to shower sideways and try very hard to avoid touching the icky shower curtain narrow beds with dingy sheets and almost non existing pillow.
walls so thin you could hear the person two rooms away clearing his throat and every other guest opening their door of walking down the hallway / up the stairs.
only saving grace was the fast wifi, which also then ceased to work in the morning.
my absolutely worst night in iceland which leaves a black mark on such a lovely country.

there is no problem with the unmanned reception. just the rooms are terrible and horribly overpriced for this.
a little bit further east down the road for a similar price there's guesthouse drangshlid which is about 10 times better

i cannot stress enough. DO NOT STAY here even if it is your last resort.

The Hotel is clean and quiet and in a god location, If you walk along the road towards the mountains far enough you come across a heated swimming pool built into the mountain which is great. On night 1 the front door would not close which made us feel a bit unsafe and on night 2 we couldnt get it open! No knives, forks, plates or glasses are supplied. We ate our dinner with our hands which was messy.
We saw the northern lights from the parking area! it was beautiful unfortunately couldnt get into the hotel to get our tripod out!

Bad
- The bath towel was dirty and still has hair on it and a huge ball of linen
- There's no bathroom mat or hand towel
- Room is cold (here during winter) and small. Only have floor space to open up one luggage
- Toilet bowl water was running the whole time and made loud noise. Had to turn off the main tap to stop the noise
- The entire room felt dirty

Conclusion: Glad I'm just here for one night. Will not reccomend anyone to stay here. Pay a little more and stay somewhere cleaner and more comfortable.

This Guesthouse had a mouse nest under the floorboards - at least in room 106. We were unhappy with our stay and gave the management/owners notice but they ignored our complaints via email. Field mice got into our food and pooped in our luggage. Once we realized they were there, we were up all night with their pitter-patter noises too. Not pleased at all, and a failure of a stay. The mice were coming up in a small opening with heating pipes. Do not recommend staying here at all.

Hi there. The Welcome Guesthouse does not have a pool, it's s budget hotel option. Up the street is the Lambafell hotel, a big log cabin, that may have a pool. Double check before booking so that you're not disappointed!
