Detailed Reviews
While our kids loved the cabin, my husband and I were less impressed. It is a fun place to stay for a family of 4 - but your kids need to be at least 6 years plus in age as the kids beds are in a high loft with a vertical ladder straight up. We picked this because it promised stunning views - but they had planted trees right behind the cottage, blocking the view. The trees created noise as the wind had them brushing up against and banging into the walls and roof all night. Only some of the windows had coverings which would fine in the winter, but we were there in summer and perpetual sunlight so it was hard to sleep. The listing showed it had a flat screen TV - there was no TV of any kind.
I feel like this property, while fun for kids, it way over priced. We had much better accommodations with more amenities for a far cheaper price in Iceland. You can do better.

Unseren Kindern hat die Hütte Spaß gemacht. Hütte und Bettwäsche waren sauber und ok. In Summe aber wohl zu teuer, aber im Süden gibt es eben wenig Möglichkeiten... Da kann man wohl nichts machen! Schade.

I booked in May through booking.com and selected direct payment to North Star Cottage at 260,00€.
July is peak season and very few other accomodation are offered in the area.
2 days before check-in they claimed my cc was rejected. My MasterCard still had funds but I change it with my husband's. It also had funds but was also rejected. New message and new Amex added via booking.com. Both boking.com and North Star contacted in the meantime but could not support: I suggested to find other forma of payment but could not accept and did not accept to switch payment through booking.com.
Also Amex was rejected, al thought all 3 cc had plenty of funds reservation was cancelled the evening before arrival.
The cottage was immediately available again for sale on booking.com at 486€.
I had two minor kids with me and could not run the risk to sleep in the car: I booked again via booking.com with payment through booking.com using one of the 3 cc their claimed they tried to charge and magically payment was successfull at nearly double the price!
Once back I tried to obtain refund of 226€ extra charge but it was refused, both by booking.com and from North Star which did not even answer (to me and to booking.com itself)
Booking.com demand evidence of the charge attempt from the cc service provider, which I contacted: they cannot provide any evidence or declaration.
Cottage was also probably the worst accomodation I was in during one week trip around Iceland.
Stay away!

This place ruined our spotless Iceland trip. Let me summarize the painful experience we had with this place.
We had booked at North Star Cottage for 4 people (me, my wife, and our two kids) and were assigned unit number 5. These cottages do not have a front desk, which wasn’t expected as most of the places in Iceland are remote. So, we were given a passcode to enter. Due to rain and no visible hotel signboard on the main road, we couldn’t easily locate this place. We only reached the site between 9:05-9:10 pm. We struggled to open the door with the key provided. We also called the number displayed on the front of this cottage multiple times, but there was no response. That’s when we felt something was wrong with the reservation and started going through every detail. Somewhere in the fine print, it mentions that the check-in code expires at 9 pm. This information isn't visible when you make the booking. It was very cold with extreme wind, and we were left to wonder how to survive the night. Even the internet in this area is very patchy. We managed to call Expedia, and they couldn’t find us any place nearby either. By then, it was already 10:30 pm, so we decided to drive to the nearest big city and try our luck.
Thankfully, we didn’t have to spend the cold, rainy, windy night on the road. We could get decent internet speed as we got to a nearby small city, and we were able to find accommodation near Selfoss (100 km away but were willing to let us check-in). It cost us another $500 for one night but we had a place to stay warm

This property was a little disappointing. First of all, if it comes up in a search for a hotel near Vik, don't believe it... it's not. It's about a 30 minute drive away. However, on top of that the place is ok. The cabin that we stayed in was ok, was nice that it had a kitchenette, but some of the cabin needed redone. No WIFI and very limited cell data on the phone. The biggest issue I had tho, was the communication with the management company. I never received info on how to check in (no front desk). I did eventually get in contact with them. In the instructions, they REPEATEDLY stated that checkin needed to be by 9:30 pm and that there was no after hour check in... Well, the check in is a lockbox. We went out of our way to cut our adventure short that night to get there by the check time. VERY DECEIVING. This was the most expensive place that we stayed in Iceland and the most frustrating. Honestly, I wouldn't stay here again. I don't recommend that you do either.

Really enjoyed our stay at North Star Cottage.
Essentially you are in a tiny home - separate kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. The cottages seem brand-new and are beautiful. The cottages have a large window looking out onto the most beautiful view - if you are lucky you can see the northern lights without even going outside.
Note: There is a kitchen with a fridge/freezer, hob, kettle, coffee maker and kettle. However NOTHING is provided (no salt, oil, coffee, milk) and it is quite isolated with the closest shops closing early so please be prepared.
There are towels and soap in the bathroom.
The cottage sleeps four but it would be a squeeze, we were very comfortable as two.

Nous avons passé 2 nuits au cottage. Endroit facile à trouver. Propre.
