We got the Green Leaf recommendation from a review on Cond Nast. For that reason, we expected more from the hotel. The room are tiny, specially if you are from outside Japan and you have some more luggage. We had to upgrade for a suite. The location is also an issue as there is almost no restaurant option on a walk distance. The breakfast deserve a special ZERO grade. Disorganize, really lack of any healthy food and no other option if you do not want to have it at the hotel.
The Ski School deserves a severe no recommendation. The guides are really young starting on the age o 18 and some of them are on the first season on the resort. I found out they have no training on the resort before start working as a ski guide. So they do not know the special spots, where to go or any other valuable information, as good places to have a coffee, to eat or good places get the powder snow everybody is looking for.

We've been to Niseko a few times now and have always thought the Green Leaf looked like a nice place to stay. So this time we booked it, and it was everything we could've hoped for and more. The quieter location away from Hirafu, ski in/out was perfect for us.
The hotel facilities are great. A nice mix of all the things you need, restaurant, bar, onsen, gift shop, ski storage, in a fairly small and relaxed establishment. The onsen in particular was a life saver. Nothing quite like soaking in an outdoor hot pool with snow falling all around you.
The staff were fabulous, warm, welcoming and helpful. But to be fair I've never had a bad experience with hotel staff in Japan.
The room was a good size, beautifully appointed, warm and cozy with a lovely snow covered vista through the massive window. The bed was sooo comfortable after a hard day on the slopes. I don't think I've ever slept so well on a ski vacation.
They provide an excellent breakfast in the large restaurant overlooking the slopes, and a reasonably priced and varied lunch menu also if you feel like skiing back to the hotel during the day. We had dinner in the restaurant a few times, and we would've liked a bit more variety in the evening menu. But the restaurant staff were fabulous, particularly the manager who went out of his way to look after us.
The location away from Hirafu might not be for everyone, and getting around between the hotel and Hirafu after the lifts close is a bit of a challenge. It's virtually impossible to book a taxi, and although Niseko United and Niseko Village provide free shuttle buses they probably need to be a bit more regular and run later. But we made it work and the bus ride home after night skiing was a nice way to wind down.
All in all The Green Leaf is a fabulous location, a wonderful place to stay, and we will definately be booking again in 2024.

Having a resident physio therapist is to my mind the biggest plus of this hotel. Very easy to pick up a back muscle injury in those crazy deep powder mogul runs.

It's a 4 star hotel and any reviews moaning about not getting a 5 star experience should pay the premium and lodge in the various 5 star hotels available.

The rooms are clean, fairly modern, cozy/smallish and the bathroom 'pods' perfectly functional. We never heard any neighbours and got very good night's' sleep during the 6 days we stayed.

Breakfast choice is plentiful and quality ok. The limitations on the evening dinner choice encourages the short walk across to the restaurants at the Hilton of in Niseko Village.

The team in the ski rental are very friendly and helpful and are happy to change your skis from one day to the next if the snow conditions change. Just don't expect to get top end carver slalom skis. If you need more, take the bus to HIRAFU and waste an hour or two every day.

Yes there is only one lift which can be an issue if you are too unfit for take the stairs

The hotel's Onsen is very nice and great to relax your muscles after a day of hard play.

The little hotel shop is sweet for drinks and snacks but you will not find souvenirs there

The hotel is not flexible about keeping the room for a couple hours longer on departure day. However, you can always get changed showered and changed in the Onsen's changing area.

The pistes leading down to the hotel are by no means green runs and indeed there is some superb and very challenging off-piste skiing just above the Greenleave.

The transfer on the piste across to the gondola lift from Niseko Village takes no time but means the hotel is not in the middle of the hussle and bussle

Response from Guest Services, Guest Services / Front Office at The Green Leaf Niseko Village
Responded 19 Jan 2024
Thank you for your review. Please allow us to respond to you. Upon highlighting your concern, our housekeeping team promptly checked your room and no mold was found except for some build-up of dust on the vents and window frame which was cleaned immediately. In order to make your stay pleasant, the Manager on duty offered you a change of room. However, you turned down the room change and insisted on having free accommodation throughout your stay and wanted all your other charges waived. If truly this posed a health hazard you would have immediately requested a room change. Instead, you were more interested in haggling for free accommodation, drinks, meals and a Spa treatment for your wife. You were also creating a scene at the reception by raising your voice while carrying your snow shovel and trying to embarrass/ intimidate the staff and getting other guests' attention to your grievance. Out of a gesture of goodwill, the Manager offered you free drinks, a spa treatment and 1 night's stay on complimentary to pacify your constant barrage of haggling at the reception. There were other guests who overheard your raised voice and even sent us their guest feedback saying that this was their best ski holiday, and no mold was found in their rooms to highlight the scene they witnessed at the reception. Nevertheless, we hope the heavy snowfall of powder snow brought a glimmer of joy to your ski holiday.

My favorite part of the resort was the onsen. It was amazing to sit in a natural rock hot spring while out in the snow. The hotel onsen is open 2pm to 9 am, but the Hilton onsen is open during the closed times. It is fun to try both hot springs. because they are both included o your stay. The breakfast was also delicious with a tremendous variety. I agree with a previous review that there are limited dining choices at the hotel. I would recommend booking ahead at one of the 5 Hilton restaurants and only planning for one night at the hotpot buffet at the Green Leaf. Please be aware that most dining options are expensive on the area. However, the bar at Green Leaf has reasonably priced dining options but last orders are at 5:30pm. The fish and chips there were very tasty! Grand Hirafu area has the most choices, so I would recommend bringing a change of footwear on your ski, so you could eat near Grand Hirafu and then catch the last bus back to the resort. Alternatively, hire a car at Saporo and you will be free to drive to downtown Niseko where there are more restaurants and a fun food truck area. The ski in and out at the resort was great, although the green run down from the highest gondola is very challenging. The best green runs are lower down in Bansai or buy the all mountain access pass and ski down the easier and nicer runs by Grand Hirafu and the Hilton and then get the bus back. There is a great rental shop at the hotel. However, they do not rent gloves or masks. You will need to bring them or buy at the shop that opens in the afternoon or go to the Hilton or Grand Hirafu by bus to purchase them. The staff at the hotel were all very helpful and respectful. The rooms were pleasant but not luxurious. The bed was fairly hard, but the bed linens were top quality. A nice touch was a complimentary kimono for the onsen.

We stayed at the Greenleaf Hotel in the Niseko Village and I thought it was a great place because it was easy to rent skis, store everything in a locker, and have ski in/ski out access to the mountain. The staff was very helpful. Room was comfortable, nothing fancy. The Onsen and spa were excellent and helped with sore muscles. The breakfast can be a bit of mayhem as it’s a big buffet with lots of people. I would not eat dinner there as it did not look appealing at all.
The hotel staff was very helpful with making restaurant reservations which seems very necessary in the busy season.

While we did not stay at Green Leaf Niseko, we definitely intend to in the future! My wife and I were stranded at the Welcome Center due to the unavailability of our Village-located hotel's Shuttle Bus. Gabriel from Green Leaf Niseko kindly offered to drive an extra 20 minutes beyond his normal route to get us to our destination safely. While en route to the Village, we stopped by Green Leaf to drop-off a guest; the property looked very nice and it is in a great location. We look forward to our first stay at Green Leaf!

Great hotel, the only down side is the lack of food options. The buses were not that regular so next time we would definitely want to book a hire car. The ease of getting onto the slopes was excellent and so was the ski locker on site

Whilst the ski-in, ski-out is clearly the main attraction, everything else is severely lacking.

The hotel lobby bar advertises food but doesn’t provide anything beyond edamame and nachos. The main restaurant offers the same, tired, hotpot option every night and breakfast is chaotic and disappointing. The shop only opens at 5pm daily and stocks very little.

Any raised concerns are met with a shrug (and go elsewhere if you need something else to eat) - but at minus 18, going out for dinner into Hirafu isn’t always an option, especially as the last shuttle back is 21:30 and taxis are extremely rare.

They charge a 5 star price but are delivering a 2 star service sadly.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. The Bar lounge serves bar food from 2.30pm till 5.30pm daily. Plus, the restaurant in the hotel does a hot pot buffet daily from 5.30pm onwards. For more options, you can catch our scheduled shuttle to the shopping & dining area next to Hilton or visit one of the 5 restaurants at Hilton. All these venues are 5 minutes away. Within Niseko Village there are up to 12 different restaurants for you to choose from. Hirafu is another option if you want more choices and it is 15 mins away by taking our scheduled free shuttle bus. As Niseko is a mountain resort, private transportation/ taxis are limited. The Hotel recommend you plan you trip in advance especially with services related to transportation and dining options to avoid any disappointments. Hope this information will also help other readers to better plan their trip to Niseko.

Probably the worst food in Japan.
Restaurant is bad. Breakfast is of very poor quality. For diner they force you to have the same hot pot every night. The buffet food is disgusting. Staff is incompetent. There is no à la carte option. If you don’t want the same hot pot every night you can still take the bus by -20 degrees to eat elsewhere (lol) . Price of a 5 star hotel for a 2 star service.
Too bad because the onsen and the rooms are nice.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your review. Regret to hear that you did not enjoy your Breakfast. Our Breakfast service ends at 9.30am daily. To enjoy a full spread of the Buffet, please be in the restaurant before 9am. As advertised the hotel only has one restaurant. Within the resort there is a further choice of 9 restaurants and bars at the the Hilton, Ritz Reserve and the shopping dining area which are all 5 mins away by our shuttle bus. For more choices you can catch our complimentary scheduled shuttle buses to Hirafu. Separately, you can also catch a taxi if you do not want to take the bus. Our prices are comparative to similar standard hotels in Niseko. Room rates at a 5 star hotel in Niseko costs 40% - 60% higher.
