The overall ambience as an old town setting is lovely, with the rooms large and comfortable in a traditional style. It is a large hotel and if you have mobility issues do make sure you have a room below the 300’s. The 700’s have steps. The restaurant was excellent and service always very attentive. Dining very cleverly designed into smaller rooms so that each large group is separated. Loved the selection and a great egg chef each morning. Alcohol is served both at the main lounge area and at table. Great Wi-Fi.

Our initial room (111) was definitely only 3 star at best. We had been told the hotel was 4/5 star. Needed updating & renovating. Basic things like dodgy wiring, thin fraying towels, shutters couldn’t open, shower head a trickle, dated bathroom. However we complained and were given a renovated room (806) which was totally different. Lovely bathroom and plush towels. It didn’t have any natural light which was a shame. Wish there were more power points to charge phones etc but that’s a common problem with a lot of hotels.
On the plus side the staff were all very pleasant and the food in the restaurant was good although it was only a buffet.
Also ought to be noted that this is a ‘dry’ hotel and they do not serve any alcohol. You can also hear the call to prayer from the local mosque in the middle of the night.

Hayat Zaman is a unique hotel with rooms scattered in small clusters across a hillside facing Petra. But it is a 20 minute drive to the entrance of Petra, there are many more convenient locations. Even though it is located in a desert and water should be drank frequently they only off two small bottles per day free per room. Any more must be purchased!
If anyone is mobility impaired walking the grounds would be very difficult with very irregular stone paving and many steep steps upp and down the hillside.

A pleasant respite after long days walking in Petra Archeological Park and/or riding the tour bus.

High on a hill overlooking Petra, a collection of stone buildings in what one of the staff told me used to be a Bedouin village. Room is clean and comfortable, with white stone interior. Heater was helpful in the cold of the evening.

Although the restaurant has menu service, the breakfast and dinner buffets were delicious, with many great choices for the meal.

If you enjoy spas, try the Turkish bath onsite, which includes shower, steam room, and a scrub/massage by a staff member. Very relaxing after a long day of hiking or travel!

As other reviewers have noted, this hotel is not in walking distance of the Petra Archeological Park, and is 10-15 minutes away by vehicle.

Staff was very helpful with questions.

Quirky, dreadful location and not 4 star

The hotel itself is laid out abit like a small village, with little streets. It is quite quirky.
But it is not 4 star or at least most for the rooms are not. Only rooms numbered in the 600s and 800s are properly appointed. We started in room 111, room with a view!
Awful, there is a window covered with a fly net and not much of a view. Bed very uncomfortable, bathroom very dated, hand held show attachment and the dreaded show curtain! Ropey towels.
On reading other comments on trip advisor while there we complained and got moved to room 805, completely different standard. Modern bathroom, comfortable bed, robe & slippers!
Location was a big issue, you are a good 15mins from Petra and there are no restaurants around.
Note they do have a la carte, though they don’t seem to like to advertise it! We only found out when we raising all the issues we were having ( with our entire trip) to the tour representative. We were pretty fed up of self service everywhere went on our whole holiday.
Recommend you pick hotel actually in Petra, makes it so much easier to visit site and there are restaurants there. In this instance I think location trumps other aspects of a hotel.

Good hotel for big groups of tourists and families with children. If you travel in small groups, it might be too noisy. Located quite far from Petra, it offers views over the Petra Hills. The restaurant is buffet, overcrowded usually, and they do not serve alcohol. Quality of food not remarkable.

A unique Jordan experience . We stayed 2 nights whilst visiting Petra with a group of 8.
We were allocated room 815 which was well located for the dining room and reception in different buildings. The rooms were a little cooler than we would prefer however when in bed it was cosy and we both slept well.
The food was a self serve buffet and was ok. The best part of the dinner experience was a visiting traditional dancing group who were excellent and encouraged participation. The dinning entrance was well designed for seating groups with a lovely welcoming open fire.
The facilities were clean and the staff were very pleasant . Thankyou.

We stayed at this hotel in October 2023. To stay here, our travel agent charged us a surcharge of $US100 per person for 2 nights. Ouch.

The hotel is 20 minutes from Petra, and there is no shuttle bus. There is a constant low roar of tourist buses arriving and leaving and the constant clatter of large numbers of suitcases over the cobblestones.

The place looks quaint and charming but the rooms are a bit ordinary.

The hotel's food is good.

We found this place to be overpriced and a bit like an industrial scale tourist processing machine.

The highlight of our stay was the local muezzin's early morning call to prayer. It was really beautiful.

Terrible hotel ! We found ourselves here as apparent comparison to the Movenpick via THG holidays …. Not remotely similar !
This hotel is dry, not withstanding Ramadan, why they say they have a bar is beyond me, soft drinks & no alcohol beer only, not the slightest chance of wine with dinner
Yes it looks a very nice refurb of a Bedouin village but the rooms belie that, toilet in dire need of refurb, ancient fittings, hose for a hairdryer, thin, poor quality towels.
Tea/coffee tray dirty,no saucers,dimly lit, dingy rooms
Pool and outside terrace closed
, has a Turkish bath with only male staff ! Not for me !
Food was ok
It’s at least 8k from Petra, nowhere nearer & that cost £36 in a taxi as there was nothing else to do we paid it ….. complaint to THG on its way

Perched on top of the hill with stunning views, this is like entering a Fred Flintstone village. It is all rocks and cobblestones, so, very different. Quite pretty and we appreciated and enjoyed the unique style. Even the interior walls are rocks, but the downside of this lack of insulation means the room feels a bit damp and there was evidence of this with freshly painted ceilings covering patches of mould. The paint clearly wasn’t sticking to it as it flaked off overnight onto the furniture. They had tried to dry out the paint and mould by having the aircon turned on to 27deg when we arrived, so good effort. No wall insulation meant when other people walked past chatting, you heard it all. The buffet was large and there was lots to choose from but due to the large number of guests it became very congested. Bed was very hard. But it was only a night and we loved the sunset.

This is a traditional hotel and whilst renovated they are rustic and perhaps modern comfort is not how I would describe it. So approach on that basis.

I stayed there years ago and loved it. It is not next to Petra. I was on a tour, and it was a bus ride between the two.
