crown plaza hotel is being renovated. But we went to the basin restaurant located at the end of trail of the Petra Ruins. It’s like an oasis. Indoor air conditioning Restaraunt. Beer wine. And buffet food. Friendly service and bathrooms. It can be crowded. Have fun.

Pros:
You can't get any closer to Petra if you tried, walk out the front of the hotel, you are right on the road to the Siq.
There is even a bar that is houses in an old carved out Nabean house.
Great breakfast, great dinner.
Nearby shopping arcade.
Everything is in walking distance.

Cons:
Rooms are a little dated. Some minor water issues.
Lots of French people. They are fine, but a little pushy at dinner time.

Like many people have said, you only stay in this hotel for one reason; because its close to Petra. And like many people have said, you can't get closer to the entrance. (Don't be fooled by "entrance" - its still a fair walk until you get to the Siq and then more until the Treasury, but its a beautiful walk)
The hotel itself is slightly dated, but the staff are all polite, the beds are comfortable and it is clean. We had one of the chalet type rooms away from the main part of the hotel. The cave bar is a really plus. Never ate in the main restaurant apart from breakfast which is good. Fresh pancakes/eggs etc.

I had a nice buffet at the restaurant, a lot of options, tasty food and one of the employees (Odai) made my stay very good. Coffee was also nice, and view from restaurant is great. Recommended after long walk in Petra :)

I booked this hotel online in November and a confirmation for my booking was received. When I arrived at the hotel late in the evening on the 26th of December for my reservation I discovered the hotel was closed. I was directed to the Petra Guest House which is currently being run/managed/whatever by Crowne Plaza to discover that my booking didn't exist (even though I had a confirmation number). An hour later they kicked another guest out of his booking (I heard the lies the front desk told him when he tried to check in and wasn't impressed) and gave me his room. The hotel wasn't to the expected standard of Crowne Plaza and I was unhappy by the way the situation was managed. I am a fan of Crowne Plaza hotels and had a stay in their hotels both before and after this one that were excellent but this experience was disappointing. They blamed the website for the problem but you can still book a room at this hotel both online through the hotel website as well as through other hotel booking sites... this needs to be sorted as soon as possible...

They forgot to mention that their hotel is under construction and you will not actually be staying at the Crowne Plaza. The Morning Receptionist ( Something with a B) is extremely unprofessional and not confident in his job duties. He does not know a thing he was talking about. He told my friends and I that Petra would take 12 hours. We almost stopped half way because we thought we would not make it back before dark. Good thing we did not listen to him because it took us 5 hours. He argued with me on how many beds I wanted in MY own room.

I understand there is a culture difference, however it is my money, it is my room and it is my boyfriend. We were entitled to a few discount, as per our reservation and their response was, we only honour rooms not specific things on the reservation since they are not "technically" Crwone Plaza, they will not give service.

Food was so awful we had to go outside the hotel which also was not so good. Again Do not trust anything they say, research ahead of time. You can find a cheaper hotel, with better service walking distance.

I agree with other comments - the location is great. When I first got there, I thought the location wasn't that big a deal. The other hotels in Wadi Musa aren't that much further away. But after a day at the Petra site and the long walk back out, I was really happy not to have to walk even 10 feet further. My room (113) was quite good - two double beds (I was solo, so not great) but the room has a big outdoor deck with a table and a couple chairs. Very nice place to spend the late afternoon after a trip to Petra. Staff is friendly but they were pretty distracted when I was there - a big name visitor was coming the day after I left so there was lots of scrambling going on. Breakfast is OK - nothing special.

Key point if you are going to Petra - VERY important to understand where your hotel is. MANY hotels are well outside of Wadi Musa so you have to take a bus or taxi to get to town or to the Petra site.

Food, room and facilities were all acceptable, but uninspiring. Location, right by the entrance to Petra, was perfect. The staff were friendly and welcoming, yet the hotel did not quite come up to CP standards.

Stayed here whilst visiting Petra.
The hotel is literally a 45 second walk to entrance of petra visitors.

Hotel is a little dated, but you're paying for the location rather than how good hotel is and what you can do at the hotel. I would say all the hotel amenities are a bonus as most of the time/ day will be spent touring Petra.

In all... great location, great branded hotel for comfort, cleanliness and good showers and good breakfast...not sure what else one would want when visiting Petra.

I put 4 instead of 5 due to comparing to other 5 stars we have been to....as for me..location cannot be heavily weighted for which star to give a hotel as there are other considerations.

When in Petra again...will come back to this place.

We had been to Petra previously, but stayed at a hotel/resort out of town. This time, we decided to opt for "location" and chose the Crowne Plaza. Boy, was this a mistake?
The room we were given was right above the entrance of the hotel and it seemed like there was constant activity outside our window all night with tour buses, taxis, etc. The room reeked of cigarette smoke which meant that we had to keep our window open all night - thus contributing to the noise level.
The dining room was OK for breakfast, but the dinner did not look too good so we ate in one of the local restaurants. The rooms are antiquated and the bathroom had seen better days. The carpets appeared to be originals and retained the smell of smoke in the hall and the room.
Next time, it will be the Movenpick which has a similar location.
