i arrived late at breakfast. got admonished and shouted at.... did not have a change to tell about the dog that barked half of the night and kept us awake... beer was like $6 a piece but not cold. it was ok to see this place once but would never go back again. also, i need to mention there were some pretty naughty cats that kept bothering us while dining, sometimes stealing food.

The Rock Camp Bedouin camp in Petra was excellent. My husband and I were there in July 2013. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel, this is not your place. You go to Rock camp to enjoy the Bedouin culture. The desert at night is very cold, but you sleep in a nice wool tent to keep you warm. Amazingly enough after such a cold night, it is very hot the next morning. The tents are great there is a bed, warm wool blankets and comfortable pillows. Ishmael and Mohammed were great hosts. Food was delicious and the hookah around the fire pit was great to spend the beautiful nights in the desert. It was a great experience. The camp schedules a taxi for you to take you to the Ancient City of Petra.

The rock camp in petra is very cool.. we arrived there after many hours of driving and were greeted by the bedouin hosts with tea and drinks.. i dont remember having any dinner but i am sure we had something.. we sat around the fire talking and drinking tea.. the bathrooms are quite far from the tents so take your torch. Lots of hot water in the bathroom good for the long days you will have hiking here. The tents are traditional bedioun tents and are really hot.. good for winter i guess but in summer you may want to opt for the more expensive tent... they look a bit cooler rhat the sheeps wool tent. The rock camp is a really beautiful location and i am so glad and privileged to have stayed here. Enjoy it..

If you are at Petra and don't have time for the Wadi Rum Bedouin experience, this is a great choice. Setting is beautiful, comfort is acceptably so-so (but remember, you're in a Bedouin camp, not the Ritz Carlton!). The high point was the service and food, provided by Ismail and Mahmoud. The food was excellent, and they served the best lentil soup I have ever had. I could kick myself for not getting the recipe. Ismail (Egyptian) went out of his way to make us comfortable and feel at home. My daughter had a stomach upset, and he led us on a moonlight trek into the wadi to find medicinal herbs for her. He made her a tea that did the trick! I suspect it may not be as great if crowded, but we had the place to ourselves, and it was wonderful.

***5 Star for Quality Service & Experience - not for posh luxury*** Stayed here for one night in May, wish I had done 2 night. Absolutely amazing relaxing experience. I hate to call out other reviews, but I felt I had too. This place is NOT a posh luxurious hotel or luxurious outdoor experience nor does it claim to be. So for people to whine about cold water or rustic experience seems trivial and idiotic. First of all, this place is literally out in the desert, so don't expect marble and fancy trying to be authentic. Instead this place is rustic and authentic with some comfort built in. I arrived after a looooong day of exploring Petra. I was early so yes I took a cold shower b/c they had not yet fired up the generators to hear the water. I was perfectly fine with it. Right after the shower they welcomed me with copious amounts of fresh hot tea - yum! My room (tent) was just that. A tent with a perfectly standard bed and wired for light n charging of my iPhone. So basically a roof over my head with some basic comforts. Glad tent was there, there was torrential downpour that night, n I was war n dry. No lets talk service. The staff isn't some City folks trying to sell an image, it was a rural Bedouin family who spoke a bit of broken English (rounded out the authentic real feel of the experience). Now for the food! I am Middle Eastern, and have traveled throughout the area. The FEAST was outstanding! I've stayed at the Ritz and Sheraton in Amman. The meal I had was better than those places and some of the best food I've had in the Middle East! And as a reviewer complained, breakfast was a typical middle eastern breakfast - hard boiled egg, fresh vegetables and fruit and some yogurt. If you want pancakes and Hotel experience with a/c and a spa/shower and plush amenities - find someplace else. My kids and I welcomed to the camp by its manager. We were the only 3 guests there at the time and were treated like royalties! In terms of facilities, they could improve the water pressure (and temperature) of the showers, but all in all it was a fantastic stay. Delicious breakfast, great tour around the canyons, superb! The camp is located about 15km from Petra. Do take a torchlight with you - after a certain hour the electricity goes off and you can't see a thing! And GET A SOLAR POWERED POCKET CHARGER! You will be glad you did it!

Breakfast was sliced tomato, cucumber, a dairy lea cheese triangle, yoghurt and Arabic bread. This was the same both days, the only difference on the second day was bits of material or hair in the yoghurt. The wind howled both nights, again not a problem except where the beds had been pushed together up against the fabric of the tent it squeaked all the time, eventually I out a cousin over it and it stopped.

There were six of us, really waiting for this experience - not for the convenience because it is hard to locate specially if you arrive late at night, and certainly not for the hygiene or comfort... If you are prepared to bear little cold water and can wait to have your hair washed in another place, if you bring along your own camping towel and a scarf to protect your pillow, you'll be fine. We didn't enjoy any of the promised activities because we arrived long after the sunset. I is not cheep either, considering... Apart from that, sitting around the fire sipping hot tea under the stars and eating warm bread and lentil soup while chatting with the guys is a memorable experience.

We started our tour in Jordan to see Petra. Jordan itself was an eye opener as it's a very poor country and looks very 3rd world in all aspects. Arriving at the camp with 43 people in the dark was a mistake. The locals that worked there didn't take leadership and the organizing that was done by our tour leader as to who should sleep where was ignored by the people working there and inevitably it took an hour to book into our tents. Abit of chaos. Because our group was so big our family (my husband and I) were asked to share a family "luxury" tent with his parents that joined us on the tour. The luxury was missing as it's very basic but at least it has character. The 4 single beds squished into one tent was unbearable as there was no place for our luggage. Upon investigating the next day,2 other tents were empty and unmade! We asked to be moved into one of the unmade tents and after insisting they reluctantly said they would do it and then wanted money! I refused as we paid exactly the same price as all the others. We enjoyed the feeling of the Bedouin camp but felt the bathrooms were far to small and the water ran out after a few people showered. The camp cannot accommodate so many people because of the poor ablutions. The tents were basic and not very clean. Especially the tent we stayed in the second night.The food was good but the kitchen that the food was prepared in wasn't very clean. If all that doesn't bother you then the rest is magical. Lights in trees,fires in a round bouma,food prepared on fires and bread baked while you wait! The atmosphere was joyous! Ps: don't be afraid of the wild dogs barking at night it echoes against the rocks! To experience the Bedouin lifestyle I suppose everything is as it should be. We had a wonderful second night with henna tattoos by Fatima and kohl eye painting. Even our men enjoyed the painting!…

We stayed there two nights while we explored Petra and Little Petra. It was a bit further out from Petra than I expected but the setting was beautiful and the drive was only 15 minutes back to Petra town. We were the only people there so it was pretty quiet, except at night when the local Bedouin dogs started howling and barking - remember your ear plugs! We spent most of our days at Petra and only came back to the camp at then end of the day to eat and sleep. We stayed in a premium tent which had proper beds and were comfortable. The bathroom facilities were pretty basic and the hot water didn't really work, but given it was June and hot we didn't really mind. The dinner is definitely worth paying for. Both our dinners were delicious and there was plenty of it. The breakfasts were pretty basic. They staff were friendly and helpful and we didn't want for anything more.…
