The Petra Guest House is part of the Crowne Plaza complex next to the Petra Gate, and shares the Plaza’s facilities. It is very convenient for entering the site, but being close to the gate doesn’t mean close to the ruins themselves, and no hotel in Petra has a view of the actual site. In fact, from the gate to the beginning of the famous Siq it is 1 mile by my gps, and another 2 miles through the Siq to the Treasury. Keep this in mind if you are contemplating exploring the ruins, leaving, then returning later in the day (say, to attend the Petra by Night show). When people describe Petra as being huge, they are absolutely right. We walked 6 miles round trip to attend the Petra at Night Show when we arrived, then walked 16 miles each of the next two days for a total of over

We made a reservation for the Petra Guesthouse through Trip Advisor/Booking.com. The reservation was confirmed by email with a booking number. When we arrived, tired and late a night, we found the hotel was overbooked. They bumped us to a different hotel about 3 kms away and supposedly an "upgrade". It certainly wasn't, and my wife refused to take her clothes off to get in to the bed. I guess the moral is to check directly with the hotel beofre you arrive to make sue you actually do have a room.

I was a bit worried as the reviews were mixed - but a very positive surprise. The rooms are big and clean. You cannot sleep closer to the entrance of Petra - the location is fantastic. The bar is in a real tomb - good food - good prices. Breakfast is pretty good. The hotel is run by the crowne plaza - there was nothing to complain.

Note: Petra Guesthouse is managed by the Crowne Plaza hotel, which is located next door, but is a completely separate entity. Many of the reviews for Petra Guesthouse are intermingled with the Crowne Plaza reviews. I’ve read many of the reviews about Petra Guesthouse and it seems that experiences can be “hit or miss”. My experience was quite positive and I would definitely stay there again. We (3 adults) stayed in Petra for one-night to see the archeological park. Checked-in to the hotel in the evening after a long flight from JFK. Our triple room was ready & waiting. We booked through http://www.jordan-travel.jo and pre-paid without any issues or complications. I would use Jordan Travel again; the process was painless and easy. The hotel itself is quite nice. I’m not
