Detailed Reviews
We enjoyed our stay here, primarily because of the lovely location, the delicious vegetarian food and the staff. Our deluxe room was very comfortable, with good beds and large bathroom. We also enjoyed the balcony, and the ecological extras like homemade soap and candles and water that doesn't come out of a plastic bottle. But, three nights are too much.
But we were a bit disappointed with the activities, considering the costliness of the rooms. Yes, one can hike about the wadi Dana and see the sunset and have coffee with the Bedouins, but that doesn't seem to be quite enough for a stay longer than one night. We booked three nights, partly for the activities and partly just to relax (which we did). There were just not many options for things to do.
And paying $25 extra for a 20 minute 4x4 transport from the reception center or $4 for a short visit for Bedouin coffee seems a bit pricey as an add-on. We understand the need to put money into the hands of the local community, but we're already paying quite a bit just to be there.Â
Â
As we told the manager, one other enhancement would be to expand wifi service beyond the one cold and dark reception area, so at least one could do a bit of internet surfing or work while relaxing outside on the lovely deck.

The beautiful, simple, clean and natural ecolodge is a hidden Jordanian gem. The beautiful location away from noise and light pollution allows you to relax and star gaze with the knowledgeable Bedouins.
The lodge serves fantastic vegetarian food, wonderful coffee and rooms are large and lit with candles each evening.
There are 25 part time local Bedouins that work there and guide you on fantastic activities. After 5 nights and 6 days I felt like I was leaving my family.
Suleiman, Ameen, Duty Manager Ali, and the young man Abdulraman, and the rest of the staff make you feel safe and welcome each minute.
I highly suggest taking a day trip with a local goat Shepard. It’s truly amazing how they know the plants and animals of this area.
I also did the 24 kilometer hike round trip to Dana Village and back and highly recommend it!

Beautiful place with sustainability at its heart. Be aware that this is at the opposite end of the Wadi Dana trail to Dana village so the trails that start at Dana are not close to Feynan. But Feynan has its own beautiful walking trails. We walked part of the lower end of the Wadi Dana trail and joined hikes organised by the local Bedouin guides. We stayed one night, roughly a day and a half in total and really got to explore a decent proportion of the area. The local Bedouin community were very welcoming. The food was brilliant (all vegetarian) and the rooms were comfortable. We stayed in the lowest grade of room which was great and had an en suite and everything. There are no sockets in the rooms or electric lights except in the bathrooms in an effort to minimise energy usage. There is WiFi only really at the reception where they have charging points (including UK style sockets) and the place is lit by candles at night. You're provided with hot water bottles. It's a beautiful dark sky location as long as the moon isn't too bright. The outdoor seating was really nice and we ended up spending a lot of time there watching the birds (Hoopoes, Blackstarts, Lesser Whitethroat, Common Redstart, Palestine Sunbirds, Laughing Doves, White-Spectacled Bulbuls, House Sparrows, Swifts and the occasional Steppe Buzzard). Elsewhere on our walks we also saw lots of dragonflies, some butterflies (Large Salmon Arabs we think??), White-Crowned Wheatear, Cretzschamar's Bunting, Striolated Bunting, Black Kite, Squacco Heron, Common Kestrel, Desert Larks and the beautiful Green Bee Eater. The track up the lodge from Feynan village takes about 20 minutes to drive and definitely requires a 4x4 which is arranged with the lodge for a pick up from their reception centre in Feynan Village. The lodge is quite expensive but on balance I'd say it's worth it.

According to the pictures and the prices you think that the standard is high but it is not!
People are very kind and the food is very good except the lunch box that is very very light (and even with a fake apple juice that is water, sugar, flavors and additives).
The rooms (we add the Deluxe King room that is 512€ for two nights) is nice but when it is dark you have only four candles to light your room so it is very dark. If it is cold you have only hot water bottles and extra blankets (but it was fine). The water for the shower was not warm enough. They include some activities in the prices but when you hike you don't have time to do them (we did only the star gazing and the sunset with tea). They are amazing hikes to do around but at the end it is far too expensive for what it is.

Having the opportunity to move from one location to another for 2 weeks was exciting thru out Jordan because each location was different from our prior location. The Ecolodge Feynan offered that different mountain scenery and the 1 on 1 with Bedouins was priceless. The rooms were charming, unfortunately the food was sparse, very little hot water even to wash your face. Showering in cold water was permitted. No electricity in the rooms for lights or heat except for 2 hot water bottles to warm your bed. The rooms were very cold. If you can endure those conditions, Feynan is the place for you.

We stayed two nights at the ecolodge. For us it was the perfect experience.
The rooms: Minimalistic, but beautiful. Gives you desert vibes. The bathroom was simple but clean.
The food: We loved it! It was one of the best we had in Jordan in 10 days. It was authentic, one day we drank tea with the family who makes the bread and accompanied the little boy escorting it to the lodge.
The activities: We could choose from every activity, not only as they were scheduled on the timetable. Maybe this was because not many people were there. We did the day hike with a shepard. It was really, and i mean really, the best experience of our trip. You walked with a real shepard in the wilderness, even he did not speak to much English we connected with him, cooked and ate with him. It is absolutely a non touristy thing, more like getting insight in the real Bedouin life.
Before writing my review I read the older ones. I understand that many think the price is too high for what you get, but 50% of the hotels income goes to the local Bedouin community. They could build a school for 60 Bedouin people, they can afford to travel, ...!
Go there open minded, then you can escape from the real world and learn about the Bedouins and the simple life.

Feynan "ecolodge" is a nice place with (mostly) friendly staff - but that's it. Nothing, literally nothing justifies the outrageously expensive rate for one night, which is 200 JOD for residents, for foreigners even more.
During our stay, which was fortunately only one night, we were constantly wondering what we paid this incredible amount of money for. The rooms a basic, there's no AC and not even a bottle of water to welcome guests after a long hike (which we did from Dana through Wadi Ghweir). The food is average and definitely not organic (which one could expect in a place called "ecolodge"), the service is fair but nothing more.
They claim to do a lot of community engagement, and no doubt that the lodge is an important employer and customer for the families living close by. But what is so special about that? Any other hotel in any other area does that as well, that's business - not community engagement, especially when you know that employees at feynan don't earn more than anywhere else, and that women selling bread to the lodge will certainly not get an extra JOD to support their families. If they spent at least half of the money they charge you for projects in the village nearby, the price would still be high but somehow justified. But they don't! For home visits and transport they even charge you extra money. So, I suppose that the major part of their profit goes to the private operator Ecohotels, and / or to the RSCN!
All in all, I can only recommend one thing: don't stay in this tourist trap. Choose the nearby camp in Wadi Ghweir instead, or if you manage to go back to Dana, stay at the Al Nawatef camp, where you will not only find great food and stunning views, but also the most welcoming and heartfeld atmosphere - and all this for a more than reasonable price.

We had the most AMAZING time staying at the Ecolodge. It was the highlight of our trip to Jordan. The lodge is lit up by candles at night which makes it feel really magical, and we loved chilling by the fireplace in the evenings with the lodge's 5 cats! The food is exceptional - possibly the best food we've ever had. Made us consider becoming veggie!
The only downside is that the lodge can feel really chilly in winter, and as there's no electricity that can be quite tough. We were provided with thick blankets and hot water bottles though.
The best part of the lodge is the people! Shout out to Amin who took us on a private guided hike and made us feel so welcome and made us laugh all along the way, even making a fire on top of the mountain and making us tea. You remember the places you visit, but you also remember the people. And we'll certainly remember Amin and his hospitality. Thanks also to Ali and Abdallah!
The lodge has a daily schedule of activities for its guests, including mountain biking, hiking, arabic coffee-making classes, bread-making classes etc. We were lucky in that we were some of the only guests staying at the lodge as it was winter so therefore not very busy, and the lodge created our own bespoke schedule with all the activities that we wanted to do.
If you're travelling to Jordan, we'd wholeheartedly recommend staying at the Ecolodge.

Wish we had stayed another night at Fenyan Lodge and something always special about staying in an Ecolodge...no electricity for one on the evenings and all lit with candles which gave such an intimate environment. We arrived in time for a sunset hike which was stunning and happen to be there for a 7 course pop-up dinner by a well know young chef which was delicious (like many places in Jordan, alcohol is not served but if you are discreet, you will get a wink). Breakfast is local and fresh. We ended up having a room that was on the back side, where locals and support staff hang out, so not ideal, especially as they start early in the morning. They have many activities to offer guests and you can check your wifi in the courtyard and charge your devices only at the front desk. They gave us a packed lunch to take with us.

I stayed two nights at Feynan Ecolodge's and, like other guests, really wanted to love it, however there were too many niggles to feel it provided value for money.
The food was fantastic. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all really lovely with a lot of choice, as were the packed lunches provided for onward travel or day hikes.
The stargazing and tea on the rooftop was nice but could have been longer and more informative. And it's worth mentioning you won't be able to see a lot if there is anything but a new moon.
Aside from that, it is difficult to say the lodge provides much value for money. My room was not cleaned while I was there, and the sweltering heat and flies made it difficult to sleep or relax anywhere. Tea should be available at all times, not just for an hour. WiFi should be available in the rooms, not just at reception. The cats should be neutered.
It was suggested to me that a different hike would be more interesting than the one on the agenda, and another couple decided to do the alternative hike as well. However we had to pay to be transported to the start of the hike, and then walk unguided. From speaking to people at the lodge, it didn't seem anyone had done the scheduled hike, so, while I think the staff's intentions were true in suggesting a more interesting hike, they did manage to avoid guiding any hike that day and make us pay extra for the transport. It would have sat better if they had changed their scheduled hike to the one more people were interested in, so that it was free and guided.
The bedouin experience was really interesting, but it should be included in the price of the room with the lodge paying the families directly, given the room prices.
All in all, there weren't many activities included for the cost, and the environment wasn't that relaxing because of the heat and the flies. Some more shady spots with some more comfortable seating would be good. As others have said, it feels more like a hostel than a hotel, which is not what I was expecting for the price point.
Another issue that needs fixing is the cost of the transfers. I took a transfer to Aqaba, organised by the lodge, and was charged 70JD, despite it being advertised as 65JD on the website. Considering how much I had spent on the stay, and that 65JD is already a lot of money, it wasn't great to feel I was being arbitrarily ripped off.

Hi Paul.
A stay at Feynan is all inclusive of a range of guided activities.(various hikes, stargazing, cooking classes, cooking demonstrations, etc). Optional Bedouin experiences, day with a shepherd, and mountain bikes are available for a small supplement that goes to the community service provider. The details of the activities and the schedule for any date can be found on the Feynan website: ecohotels.me/Feynan. Unfortunately we do not currently have any activities on Camels. Those can be done at Wadi Rum.
The hike is supposed to be pretty when the flowers are in bloom.
We went in October 2018 and stayed at Feynan Ecolodge which is expensive but food was amazing (all vegetarian) and the highlight was the star gazing at night - commentary by their young staff - multi-tasking - guiding, story-telling on the stars, providing tea on sunset walks nearby. If you are able, stay one night at Feynan after your walk from Dana and experience this and the hotel can arrange your transport back to Dana - all can be arranged by direct contact with the Ecolodge.
I don't think it's a good idea. it's a very rocky road - literally there are pretty big rocks everywhere, and it's a rough ride even in a 4x4. I can imagine you could damage your vehicle. We hiked one way and the lodge arranged transportation on the way back.
