We booked two nights at the PHH, and had a lovely stay in this elegant boutique hotel. First mention has to be the food - we booked dinner for our first night and were blown away by the fantastic quality of the menu. Husband had beef and I had the lamb with spicy sauce - both superb. We also had delicious desserts, and scraped our plates very clean. The lounge/bar area is lovely, with a very nice selection of gins/wines for me, and an introduction to the local Salcombe lager for husband going down very well. Lovely offerings at breakfast - husband had full English both days. I had healthier fruit and cereal/toast one day, and an omelette the next. All very nicely done. Staff were lovely, so friendly and welcoming. Our room was spacious, bed quite comfortable. Nice selection of fruit, biscuits and drinks on offer. Bathroom was also spacious. The sofa in our room wasn't particularly comfortable for relaxing purposes, but nice to have one. Parking was a challenge, especially one evening. Was just glad that we found a space both nights we were there, as not sure what the alternative would have been! Lovely venue - would definitely recommend, and return here if we were back in the area. Its a great base to get out and explore this part of Devon.

We have just returned from spending a 3 night stay at Plantation House and had to write to thank Richard and his team for a truly delightful stay. We we’re indulged with fine food and comfortable accommodation made all the more enjoyable by the friendly atmosphere and attentive staff. This restaurant with rooms is a true find and worthy of the awards it has won over years. We look forward to returning to enjoy more of Richard’s deliciously creative cooking.

We spent 2 nights here after a week of walking the SWCP for a couple of days of luxury. We were not disappointed! Friendly welcome and we were provided with fresh milk for our room for tea making and a slice of cake. Dinner both nights was exquisite and service was excellent. Our room was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent too.

We received a hospitable welcome, and found our room was well laid out with traditional dark furniture with a lovely modern bathroom. There are White Company toiletries, bath robes, and flannels as well as towels; the hospitality tray has pots for tea and coffee. Large bottles of water, notepad and pen, and a hot water bottle are all provided. There’s a basket of fresh fruit and fresh flowers. This is civilised. Dinner was very peaceful and leisurely. We had pre-dinner drinks outside on the terrace, though you can choose to have them in the bar or lounge. We shared a starter of smoked salmon and prawn tian, then both had spiced lamb for our main course. Pudding for me was rice pudding with rhubarb coulis, and for my husband a fresh fig stuffed with mascarpone cheese and much else. One wonders if life is too short to stuff a fig... anyway, he liked it very much. We had coffee and chocolates in the lounge chatting to another couple, but you could also choose to have it at your table. They run a tight ship here as regards breakfast; it's from 8.00–9.00am, and you order the night before. That was quite good though, as the food you'd ordered just appeared promptly at your table. My husband had bacon and eggs and I had buttered crumpets with maple syrup (an unusual and agreeable novelty.) If I’m permitted one slight whinge – from reading the menu we were expecting freshly squeezed orange juice (one of my standard tests of an excellent hotel!), but it was bought orange juice out of a box. Another small suggestion regarding safety in the bathroom: we were in room 26 which has a beautiful large bath, but as the shower is over the bath, it really does need a grip handle for safety when getting out, when the bath is slippery. But overall we had a lovely, relaxing stay, and we hope to return.

Splendid, small country hotel. Staff kindly accommodated us at the last minute. Excellent team, efficient and friendly. Both dinner and breakfast were of a very high standard. Highly recommended. We’ll be back again.
