Ilunion Fuengirola is frequently commended for its modern atmosphere and stunning views, but some guests suggest that parts of the hotel could benefit from a refresh. While the friendly staff garners appreciation, opinions on value and service reveal some dissatisfaction, noting the cost does not always align with the experience. The hotel's cleanliness and prime location near the beach and attractions are highlights, yet the pool's size and lack of amenities, alongside a desire for updated rooms, are areas where guests see room for improvement.

Location prefect, beds very comfortable and everything was very clean. Rooms are spacious and we found it great to have tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. All staff were welcoming, helpful and polite. Will definitely use this hotel again.

Arrived on 10 March for one week on a room only basis. We are two golfers who had separate rooms and have stayed here several times, and rate this hotel highly. Everything was going well until the night of the 14th when the Spanish government forced a lockdown.. Obviously the bar area was then out of bounds and all other bars and restaurants in Spain were closed. As we were room only basis, we approached reception about the possibility of us getting food. No problem, we were assured. Breakfast in the restaurant was. 6e each, and was excellent. A 3 course evening meal was delivered to our rooms, piping hot, at a cost of 11e each. What a credit to the hotel the management and kitchen staff are. Can’t speak highly enough considering the emergency situation the staff of the Ilunion found themselves in Well done reception also for keeping us all informed. You are in safe hands if you stay here, an excellent hotel in a brilliant position

We’ve stayed at the Illunion Hotel a couple of times, returning yesterday from our most recent visit.

The hotel has been overhauled, and the reception and bar area were both fresh and modern. The dining room on the 1st floor also continued with this theme and had wonderful views to the sea from its large windows. The rooms were comfortable, and the shower (over bath) was powerful with plenty of hot water. We had room 305 which had a king size bed and great views to the beach and sea. There was a fridge in the room but no tea/coffee facilities, this may be a covid measure though!

We opted for ‘room only’ this last visit as the hotel has numerous restaurants on the doorstep, and the slimmed down waiter service covid breakfast was limited. I’m sure in normal times the buffet would be ample and very good. Literally opposite the hotel on the square are some incredible restaurants, Carihuela Chica for fish, Bahia Restaurante for meat, and a wonderful Lebanese restaurant Casa Beirut. Fuengirola has so much to offer it’s incredible, we want to move there!

The train station is around the corner along with numerous shops, chemists, beauty places etc, there is literally everything you could want in a destination. Across the road from the hotel is the beach with sunbeds and beach restaurants.

We had a great time exploring and will definitely be back.

One more thing and ‘last but definitely not least’, the staff were lovely and really accommodating. Thanks to Julia and Babou on reception, Marisa our room lady, and the bar & breakfast staff, all deserve an award especially during these trying times where they are working extra hard doing everything as they are short staffed thanks to Covid! Well done and thank you all.

On arrival we paid extra for an upgraded room so we could check in earlier as we were told our room wouldn't be available till 2pm. On entering the room it was no different to the rooms we have stayed in in this hotel before and we have only ever booked a standard room previously. We unpacked and before going out for the day we went to use the toilet only to discover it had not been cleaned. I went down and reported this to reception who offered to move us but as we had unpacked I said I was happy for the bathroom to be cleaned again.

On coming back to the room later to get ready for the evening we noticed that the vanity, bath and floor were covered in long hairs, I ended up cleaning it myself in order to use it. I reported it once again as we went out, they made a note but told me to speak to reception in the morning when the day staff were on duty. I did this the next day and was told we could move but I didn't want to pack and move everything again so asked for the room to be properly cleaned that day, I also said I would not be paying the extra charge for the 'upgraded' room.

Unfortunately when we came back to the room later their were still a few hairs remaining, clearly their is an issue with housekeeping in this hotel, surely the head housekeeper would have come and double checked our room but clearly not!

Another issue as I pointed out in a previous review of this hotel is the missing handrail to get out of the narrow entrance at the end of the bath where the back of the bath slopes. Clearly their has been a rail there previously as you can see the raw plug holes in the wall tiles, this was the same in a previous room. Although we have no mobility issues stepping out of the wet slippery bath through the small opening on the slope of the bath is really tricky and this needs to be addressed. I'm surprised no one has slipped and fallen before.

We booked Ilunioin for the sole reason, that it was the only hotel that showed all beds being double beds in the hotel. We would have chosen another hotel otherwise. As we checked in, turns out that only 20 of those 138 rooms have double beds. We were offered to upgrade the room for 20 euros (original price 50 euros, increase in price almost 50%) for a double bed. Errm, thanks but no thanks.

We were then promised a double sheet to keep the two twin beds together as a double. After waiting for an hour, and calling three times the reception, we decided we don't want to wait for longer, and just went for a nap.

During dinner, someone had taken care of the issue, but as you know, two twin beds are never the same as one double. There's always a crack in between.

We were not only disappointed with the false information given when booking, but also the attitude that only by paying more would we get what we actually had booked for. Also, the room service was way to slow for this.

The room itself has a nice decor and they are very quiet, even if the beach boulevard is right next to the hotel. Don't judge the hotel by it's horrific cover.

If you don't have a problem with twin beds, or very slow service, if none, it's not a bad choice.

Spent five nights here in Mar 2020, great location on the sea front in Los Bolliches. Reception is beautifully decorated.large open spaces and bar area. Staff were helpful check in was quick, room was very clean and welcoming, plenty of space, all looked recently decorated in cool grey. Pool towels with a 10Eu deposit, small pool area but very clean. Used the loungers in the mornings when temps were rising up to 26-28deg, comfortable enough. The pool and area are completely in the shade by about 2pm, not a problem in Mar but has pros and cons for summer. Now to the but, It was 28 deg C the day we arrived and the room at night was unbearably hot, next morning I asked if the air conditioning could be switched on, receptionist said it was normal not to have aircon in winter but she would ask "technical" if could be put on. Air Con was never switched on, for four nights we endured the heat, opening the door allowed mosquitos in despite the mesh and after an hour and a collection of bites we had to shut the door. The last night wasn't too bad but a good nights sleep should be guaranteed. On checking out I commented on the hot nights, the receptionist stated "no aircon, one temperature for whole hotel" and that was that.
In 2020 this is not good enough, I can understand no aircon with low temperatures but when unseasonably warm surely it can be switched on and made available? If not edit your accomodation adverts and website to state no aircon and which months this applies to.

I stayed in this hotel as a solo traveller on a room only basis from 03 February 2023 to 03 March 2023, a total of 28 nights.
I was warmly greeted at Reception by Elizabeth who completed the check in formalities, explained the facilities available in the hotel and handed me my room key. As I had reserved a standard room Elizabeth informed me that the room would not have a sea view or a balcony but if I wished to I could upgrade to a room with a balcony and a lateral sea view for 10 Euros per night. However in view of the fact that my stay was in the winter months I did not anticipate spending much of my time sitting on a balcony and also as the beach was just across the road from the front door of the hotel I did not avail myself of this offer although Elizabeth did tell me that if I changed my mind I could move to a room with a balcony at any time during my stay!
The room which I was allocated (501) was very spacious with two single beds, a comfortable arm chair, a desk, a wall mounted flat screen television (with 2 English language channels - BBC 1 and ITV 1), a small refrigerator and a hospitality tray with kettle and tea and coffee making facilities. There was also a desk with a chair, a set of drawers and two very large fitted wardrobes with a good supply of hangers. There was a small digital safe within one of the wardrobes which was free to use. The bathroom was also very spacious with a very large walk in shower. I suspect that the room was intended for people with mobility issues as the doors were wide enough to enable the use of a wheelchair!
As I usually travel as a solo traveller I find that in most hotels I am allocated the smallest room in the hotel and it was a very pleasant change in this instance to be allocated such a spacious room!
The room was cleaned every day to a very high standard with bedding and towels changed as and when required and also the tea, coffee, milk and sugar were replenished daily.
As my reservation was on a room only basis I did not use the restaurant but there are numerous dining establishments within close proximity to the hotel.
Every member of the hotel staff with whom I came in to contact was pleasant, courteous and helpful. I would particularly like to thank Elizabeth and Rosa on Reception for their excellent customer service!
The hotel is wonderfully located for a stay in Los Boliches/Fuengirola. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this hotel and I would have no hesitation in reserving a room here again if I ever return to this area!

This hotel is directly across the road from the beach at Los Boliches and a short walk from the train station. The train brings you directly from Malaga airport. We stayed here in February to escape the English weather. Ilunion took over this hotel a few years ago. The public areas have been refurbished but they have yet to catch up with the rooms. Ours was a little shabby, especially in the bathroom. It was acceptable, but not up to the standards I would expect from a 4 star hotel.

The room was reasonably large and sleep quality was good. Housekeeping left a little to be desired, although this may have been because staff were concentrating on disinfecting the rooms rather than cleaning them.

There is a large entrance area combining a lounge bar and reception. This was recently refurbished and was very comfortable. The breakfast room on the first floor was also well appointed with a good selection. Omelettes were cooked to order although the other cooked food was only lukewarm. There was an excellent selection of fruit and bread. Cafeteria style lunch and dinner are also available although we didn't try them.

The surrounding area is well served by shops, bars and restaurants. Next door to the hotel is a Finnish Pizzeria that serves English breakfast all day. The seafront promenade takes you into Fuengirola proper with plenty of opportunities to stop for a coffee. If the walk is too much for you, you can always take the train back one stop from Fuengirola to Los Boliches.

10/10 for the situation of the Ilunion. Right on the promenade and close to all amenities. Whilst the public areas of the hotel are 4* the staff are most definitely 5*. Very pleasant and helpful and most of them spoke English. Which is a real bonus if your Spanish is confined to si, hola & gracias. Our room was pretty basic but clean and had a very comfortable bed. A fridge, a safe, a kettle and hair dryer are provided and a laundry service is available. The air-con is included and works while the windows are closed. The shower head is above a bath so getting in and out could prove difficult. My wife was placing the towelling bath mat in the bottom of the bath in case she slipped, but after two days the room service provided a rubber bathmat without being asked. The hotel restaurant is aimed towards Spanish holiday makers so if you want a full English or fish & chips n mushy peas don't book the meals. The food is plentiful and buffet style. A fine selection of cold meats, salad, fruit and cheese is available at every meal. The breakfast choice is sometimes a bit random and don't believe the little cards above the fare at dinner. The food is fine but not hot enough for British tastes. The Ilunion is totally inclusive so no doubt have rooms to accommodate guests who suffer disabilities. All in all the pros massively outweigh the cons, and we left as happy holidaymakers.

What a great hotel, all the staff are keen attentive but not overbearing. We opted for the breakfast included in our room rate, a great mixed buffet and hot food available, even a chef to cook fresh eggs as you like them.
We requested a disabled room to accommodate my blind wife and her guide dog, the staff were very understanding and well trained.
The foyer cafe bar was well stocked and served hot coffee when required.
All in all a great experience, WiFi great..

Sorry I didn't get to see the hotel due to ill health on the day of travel. I can tell you that I paid in advance for half board and they have refused to return the money for the food we didn't eat. Customer service was terrible despite my living in Spain for 20 years and speaking Spanish. Hope they give you better service.

The bus to Mijas is approx 10-15 mins walk ( towards Fuengirola) but you can get a bus to that terminus or the train which are only 200 yds away.. Going the other way (to Benalmadena) the bus stop is likewise only 200 yds away.
