This hotel is convenient to the Golden Circle route. We stayed 3 nights when we first arrived in Iceland. Hotel looks dated with older signage when you pull in, but the room was clean and was decorated nicely in the lobby area. The breakfast was plenty with some meats, eggs, cheese, cereal (unfortunately no plant based milk, only diary milk was offered), juice, coffee, tea, toasts and a bit of sweet bread/cookies. Room was small, no television, you are allotted two towels and they do not refresh. Room is not cleaned each day, but that was fine with us. A couple additional pillows would have been nice addition. Shower was okay, but it leaked onto the bathroom floor, so we held the nozzle to avoid too much water leakage. Bed was comfortable. We would stay again. There is a couple restaurants down the street, one more expensive $$$ and the other $$. A store is also in the $$ restaurant. Beautiful views as its out in the country, not in the city. Walls a bit thin, I wore earplugs for a better nights rest. Also, could use a few more power outlets as we kept unplugging to charge our different items; just add a power strip for a quick fix.

The host was very helpful, answering any questions that we had. We had booked a triple room but on arrival we were offered the option of two doubles at no extra charge. The rooms were very clean and a good size with comfortable beds, we all slept really well. The lounge are was lovely, cozy and welcoming. There was a good selection at breakfast. We would definitely stay here again.

We found this hotel after our flight was cancelled and we had an extra day in Iceland. It's about 90 minutes from the airport, and reasonably close to things you'd want to see, including the Gulfoss waterfall.

The room was clean and comfortable, with just the basics, but everything you need. Check in was quick and very pleasant. We ordered dinner at check in and it was ready in the dining room in about 20 minutes (entree choice of lamb, fish, or chicken). A simple breakfast is included.

We were also outside around midnight looking for the northern lights, and while we had just a bit of luck, the hotel is in a great location away from city lights. Will definitely consider again on another Iceland trip.

We stayed 1 night in Oct. Location is great, very rural and rustic. But the room we stayed in had clearly been ‘done up’ but with poor planning and thought. Had a completely unnecessary wet room …as it was up a couple of outside flights of steps there was no access for disability and the wet room was huge, with a poorly levelled floor which did not drain so access to the toilet meant stepping through a permanent puddle or keeping shoes on. It was also very slippy.. The menu and food were poor and limited…3 dishes and felt a bit like a hostel meal. Baked potato, breaded fish or lamb chop and a vegetarian dish. Some salad in a glass side bowl that was mainly chopped white cabbage raw. The bed was comfy but the 2 pillows we had were barely there and hurt my husbands neck. Luckily I travel with my own pillow. There was a kettle in the room but it could not be filled as the sink was too small and the water tipped all over the already wet floor. 2 mis matched sized cups, 2 tea bags and 2 tiny sachets coffee. No milk and when I went to ask for some was met with ‘we don’t normally give milk’ but was given a small carton of UHT. Breakfast was ok but unimaginative. No plain yoghurt, only strawberry or caramel and no Skyr! There was some very weakly diluted red cordial but no fresh fruit juice. The hot tub people mention is I’m sure nice from the hotel rooms but pretty difficult from any of the outside rooms or lodges and there were no outside lights at night. Had to use a torch to get up the outside steps to our room. It’s a shame as with a bit of thought it could be so much better. The reception/bar area has comfy seating and was nice to read a book and have a drink. It has a kind of hunting lodge sort of feel but we were disappointed based on some of the good reviews we read …was not up to what we expected. Sorry!

We had a lovely stay here. I think it has a little more of an Airbnb vibe than a traditional hotel. The main building is decorated with a more eclectic artsy style. And the room we stayed in was a little more homey than we were expecting. It was so quiet, we never heard any other guests at night and they had fantastic blackout curtains which are quite necessary in Iceland. The furniture in our room was a little beat up with scratches and such and the pillows could use an upgrade. Just fyi there were some dogs in the main building when we checked in, but they were very sweet and friendly. We didn’t get a chance to eat here, but breakfast was included.

We really enjoyed staying in Borealis hotel. Hans is very friendly and helpful. In the morning he checked the road for us after a snowstorm to see if it was safe enough to drive. Some other people got stuck with their car and he pulled them out with his own car.
Borealis hotel is a cozy place where you get the local feeling and it’s a great place to see the northern lights. The rooms where clean and spacious and the hot tub is also very nice.
It was the best place to stay for us in Iceland!

Sad and terrible experience because of the owner.

The shower drain was completely clogged and it overflowed the bathroom and bit of the room.
I stepped on glass in the bathroom and needed bandage for the blood.

When stated the above to the owner, we got into a discussion which got us nowhere.
"Why didn't you notify us immediately"
- because it was 12 at night, no one was at reception, and there was nothing you could have done at that time that you couldn't have done in the morning.
"Getting glass in your foot can happen anywhere"
"You cannot complain about everything"
"This room is not expensive, this is Iceland"
"It's not the end of the world"

Last but not least;
"You're indian. I have been many times to India. You can get glass in your foot in india as well".

He was clearly very upset that we didn't notify him at 12 in the night. Next time I will.
We got a meaningless apology at the end.

Moreover but "less" important;
The dinner was a small portion and not warm. Ordered the same and got 2 different dishes. There was only 1 overworked chef for the whole hotel, had to wait 50 minutes for only mains. We were still hungry but staff said we couldn't order another dish. The breakfast was minimal.

We book a triple room for one night stay, and based on reviews, we had high expectations. However, after arrival, we soon found out that the reality didn't quite meet our expectations.

There were enough parking spaces, but the yard was poorly maintained. Our room was located on the ground floor of one of the site buildings and consisted of two small rooms and a bathroom. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable, but the second room was a small, damp concrete bunker with no window to open for ventilation. The bathroom sliding door couldn't be closed, so we had to use the bathroom without any privacy. At breakfast, our first thought was that the breakfast table wasn't ready yet, but soon we found out that was the actual breakfast selection. Besides the cheapest white bulk bread and few sandwich toppings, there was sour milk, granola, and brown bananas with one single avocado. For vegetarians, there wasn't much to eat, not even juice to drink.

My friend and I stayed here for a night during our Iceland road trip. The hotel has a quaint atmosphere, and we loved the decor in the lobby area. When we arrived the hotel manager immediately greeted us and offered us something to eat, as well as recommendations for a couple restaurants nearby if we wanted to go out.

I would definitely recommend a stay here if you will be in the area!

Beautiful location in the countryside, very quiet, far from road. Charming country style main room to enjoy happy hour. Beautiful old barn where dinner is served when the restaurant is open (check this out if you want to have dinner there).
Good breakfast, the owner’s wife cooked eggs to our taste especially for us.
Our bedroom was confortable and spacious .
We unfortunately had to leave one day earlier, the owner very nicely made a refund on our reservation.
Thanks again!

We stayed there without a car but had to get a taxi from Reykjavik which was very expensive. We did a few bus tours from Reykjavik which were excellent but I think once you are at Borealis you will find it difficult to do tours unless the hotel can organise them. We used bus travel Iceland who were excellent.

Not sure as we were there in October with a Rav 4. Best to ask hotel for advice. We booked everything through Guide to Iceland, incl the car. Great folks to deal with. You will love this hotel!

This is in the Golden Circle, I would check out the Kerid Crater which is right off the road, a hiking trail to hot springs called Hveragerdi in Sveitarfelagid-Ohus & an awesome waterfall in Pingvellir Nat'l Park, the Strokkur Geyser which is also right on the road & erupts every 3 to 6 minutes & the Little Geyser Hotel is right across the street with a great with restaurant & bar & down the road is an awesome waterfall near Fludir, any place you stay the people would be able to help you with directions
