Detailed Reviews
Located on the main road in Selfoss, so some street traffic noise was experienced. Bed was old and not comfy; pillows were thin. We had a private, 2-person room in the basement. Very small. Had in-room sink, though, so we could wash up and brush teeth in there. The individual shower rooms were nice, and the WCs were in good condition. Bed linens provided for free as well as towels (which is unusual for a hostel). There is a washer/dryer on site. Huge kitchen/dining area if you want to prep your own food. You must take your outdoor shoes off in the small front entryway. It appears that some tour companies use this place as one of their overnight stays, so there was a rush of people in the evening then again early morning. You can easily walk to the food hall or other local restaurants. Overall, neither the best nor worst hostel I've stayed at.

We stayed at this place during rainy week in Iceland. The place is super clean, spacey and also offers breakfasts. I don't normally stay in hostels but this place can easily compete with any hotel service. For the price it is absolute bargain!

Selfoss Hostel was the first place we stayed in on our trip to Iceland in March 2019, and we stayed there for two nights, the hostel working as a base for our Golden circle day trip.
The hostel is very easy to find, as it is just along one of the main streets in Selfoss (yes, I can hear someone asking whether it really would be hard to find anything in a town of the size that Selfoss is, but I stay to my statement here). The hostel is on a walking distance from two grocery stores/markets, the other off which, Nettó, is almost in the neighbor. This makes buying things like snacks or breakfast materials very convenient.
We stayed in a three bed room. The room had it's own small sink, a small desk, three beds and a wardrobe. The room was plain, but still very clean. The beds were rather ordinary with a rather thick covers. The pillow surprised me positively, as on the first appearance it seemed like a formless sack with minimal amount of fillings, but I actually did not have anything to complain about after the two nights of good sleep. The ventilation in the room was a bit sub-optimal, mostly dependent on opening a small window in the room, making, for example, drying one's clothes or swimming gear a bit difficult.
The hostel had two showers on the second floor, both of them clean and new-ish, together with several toilets. The common kitchen space in the first floor was spacious and seemed to be well equipped (this with a pinch of salt, as we did not use anything but the fridge in the end).
We bought the breakfast for both of the mornings and while it may not have been the most lavish I found it to be very adequate to fill one up for the day's adventure and, in hindsight, the cheapest breakfast on our whole trip.
The staff, the little we saw them, was friendly and spoke fluent English.
The hostel really has a small hot tub on their backyard, free to use for all of the guests, which to me was a nice little detail in the available services. As it seemed to be quite popular, I would believe it is a nice place to meet fellow travelers, if that is something one wants from their trip.
All in all, I had a few good night's sleeps in this nice place and would not hesitate to go there again.

The hostel is self check in and sends instructions prior. We had a twin room which was small but clean. The bathrooms were ok - they did not look overly clean and being joined shower/toilet in one room meant that you had to wait twice as long to use either facility.
Our room was located accross the hall which meant we heard every time someone went to the bathroom. I don't think it would've made a difference being at the end of the hall - the walls are thin and the hall echoes. We could hear everything from outside the room - anytime someone spoke (espcially lots of people forgetting their etiquette and having very loud phone calls in the hallway instead of the common areas).
The kitchen has good cooking facilities and basic supplies (salt, pepper, oil, coffee) and plenty of space to make meals.
During our stay it was being used by a tour group which meant that the kitchen was mostly taken over by them and their supplies and although they were friendly it was a little uncomfortable as they were taking over the whole space.

Recently stayed here as part of a school trip
Found the manageress to be very rude and she seemed to like to moan over the smallest thing. Someone whistling in the corridor before 8.00am. Using a pen from reception as not returning it. She literally pounced on a staff member as she walked in the door. Although the staff member was dealing with 20+ students this pen was more important.
The breakfast and evening staff however were very friendly and very helpful
The rooms are clean and the washing facilities good.
Kitchen area well appointed and good for a hostel
Just a shame about the grumpy management

What a place! Home away from home , the rooms are spotless, the welcome was warm and the kitchen is like a travellers hub but there are private places to chill and relax. Bathrooms showers are spotless and free parking outside. Reasonable and has changed my faith in hostels tbh. Book it

+1
My group of three stayed here on a Sunday evening, after finishing the Golden Circle tour. Close to a grocery store, gas station, shopping, offer breakfast vouchers (additional cost, cheaper than going to a cafe), hot tub, wifi, lounge areas with couches and TVs. The rooms and bathrooms were very well maintained and clean, and a no outdoor shoe policy that made common areas dirt free. Staff were friendly and told us a great local places to eat.
Thanks you so much,
The Canadians ✌🏻

We spent last two nights in this hostel, and I can tell you that this is one of best places I stayed - ever! It is so cute and cozy, staff is very nice and kind. The bathrooms were very clean, rooms too. What I found funny is that we had to take our shoes off at reception. So I suggest you to bring slippers :)

I arrived right at the time when the desk closed for the evening so I rang the bell and was let in. I didn't really explore the hostel until the next day. The place is much bigger than it appears. The bed and room were adequate. Each person was asked to remove their own linens when leaving. The kitchen was large but a bit messy from the messy group using it when I was there. The bathroom was clean.
