Booked on recommendation of a friend. Well worth it especially if you have private bathroom. Quiet, beautiful, Northern Lights. Such a chilled atmosphere with wonderful staff. Go for a wander at night and enjoy the lake.

A lovely old school has been converted into a great hostel and guesthouse . We had private rooms with en-suite bathrooms which were large and airy. The bathroom was fine with a good shower . Perhaps could have been cleaned a bit better but high turn over . The communal areas are great with a decent food area and simple but tasty cooking that’s closed at 9:00pm. There’s a pool table and tv lounge downstairs . Nip down to the geothermal municipal pool a minutes walk away on the lake which also stays open until 9:00 pm in summer. Take a plunge in the lake next to it and the warm up again in the warm waters or steam room / sauna . The towels are tiny in the hotel (?) but you can rent decent sized towels at the pool.

A very special place in the best location. The lounges and the dining room are charmingly decorated, so you'll love to spend your evening here. There are plenty of nice sitting areas and corners, even if the hostel is full, you can find a nice place. You can learn a lot of interesting things about the building's past as a school. The proximity to the lake, the spa and the national park is perfect. Dinner on site was good and breakfast even better. The rooms as illustrated simple, functional and clean. You get a lot for your money considering Icelandic prices.

This is our second time staying here and we really enjoyed it! It is a hostel so be prepared for shared bathrooms, etc. We found that the bathrooms upstairs were cleaner than the ones downstairs. This place is so unique. It used to be a school and that heritage makes its way throughout the building. We booked a family room that had six twin beds and the room was very large. My one complaint on this trip was that breakfast options were limited because their oven was broken. This in and of itself was not a big deal but they offered some members of our group a discount on their bill for breakfast but not others.

This is really more of a hostel than a guesthouse. We had two rooms both with their own bath. The rooms are clean, comfortable and simple. Be prepared for a very strong sulfur smell when you take a shower. My biggest complaint was the breakfast. It is supposed to run until 9:30. My husband and I arrived at 9:00 and they were already completely out of fruit. There were only two hard boiled eggs left so I grabbed one for my son. The person in front of me finished the pancakes and I got the last cup of coffee. When my kids got there five minutes later there was basically just toast. I asked them if there were bringing more food but they said it would take time. At 9:25 they brought out some more fruit. That was it. A very disappointing meal.

A lovely old renovated building with so much history on display. Pretty, cozy, and personal. The staff were friendly, the room simple, light, and comfortable. We appreciated the location right next to Laugarvatn Fontana. We didn't visit the guesthouse restaurant, but it was nice to know it was there. Lots of space in the common areas to sit, read, work, or just look out the window. Recommend!

Very nice historical building located at walking distance from the hot baths. The rooms are clean and comfortable, however the region is infested by midgets and mosquitoes, so the windows should be equipped with mosquito nets. The toilets and showers are shared by many rooms.

The guesthouse is really charming and very clean. We had a triple room. Cramped for 3 people and all our stuff but we expected that. The value is perfect if you are ok with shared bathroom facilities. We never really had to wait to use showers or bathrooms since there seemed to be ample throughout the guesthouse to use. Definitely go sit in the living room for a bit. You also get 20% off entry to the local hot spring. The breakfast buffet is definitely worth it (and one of the only local open places to eat early).

This is not a guest house but a very noisy hostel that was overrun with school kids when we arrived. Booking.com did not make it clear that we’d be staying in a place that was not a proper guesthouse. There were kids, screaming and laughing, running up and down the corridors at 11.30pm. When I asked the teachers in charge to do something about it they asked me what did I expect them to do? As an ex-teacher who has been on many trips with well-behaved students, I gave the members of staff a piece of my mind. Also, we were told we’d be using a shared bathroom. Again, nowhere on the site did it say we’d be sharing a bathroom with more than twenty rooms on the second floor. A horrible end to a great ten days.

Cozy guesthouse with friendly staff and good food. The curtains in the bedroom could've stood to be a little larger to block out more of the nighttime sunlight, but this is a very minor complaint for an otherwise lovely place to stay for the night.
