Detailed Reviews
We ended up in the Frumskogar Guesthouse by chance because we found one of their leaflets in the place we stayed before.
Lucky us!
The house is an old building (for icelandic standards) but perfectly kept and conveniently located in the center of Hveragerdi (which is quite a small town however).
We had a double room in the main building (also on offer are 5 small flats), the room had two windows a wonderfully soft double bed, tv, washbasin, a small closet, desk and chair.
There is a spotlessly clean shared bathroom with shower and another shared toilet room.
We were nicely surprised also with the bathrobes that were provided along with towels in our room.
We didn't try breakfast (which is usually quite expensive and often billed separately from the room) and went instead to the nearby bakery (10 min. by foot). Unfortunately we couldn't sample the hotpot (it was late in the evening) but it looked good, we also found the small flats looking very stylish (although more expensive).
Another greatly appreciated touch was a folder prepared by the landlady that contained take away maps + personally written tour guides of some of the best places to visit in the area. That's service exellence!

Updated name and photos seem to be under a new name "Inni Boutique Apartments".
It is like walking inside a page of an interior design magazine feature. Every element in the room is carefully picked, and like they were purchased the same day.
Upon entering I was welcomed by a fresh scent. Everything was spotlessly clean. The beautiful kitchen has everything you need. 1 bedroom units have microwaves while studios have ovens (even had a mixer for those who are ready to whip up a pastry). There are elegant glasses and plates as well.
Olive oil, basalmic vinegar, and spices were on hand - this is so convenient and saves money!
The beddings were of excellent quality and very comfortable. You can block off the windows - perfect for Icelandic summers!
In the bathroom - they offer an excellent shower, robes, towels, and very nice soaps, shampoo, and conditioner.
We were lucky to meet Kristinn who was extremely kind, patient, and helpful with our needs. Hands down THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE from booking, to queries, to assistance during and even after our check out.
Lastly, they have a beautiful jacuzzi and steam room. This is highly recommended for a relaxing getaway!

+1
Set in the heart of Geothermal Iceland, this family-run guest house was absolutely fantastic.
I travelled with a group of 9 other bird watchers on a dedicated bird watching and Borealis trip. We all had apartments that are to the rear of the property and not attached to the main building. They are similar to a bedsit., cooking and living accommodation with our own shower room and bedroom. All were clean tidy and very well appointed in typical Icelandic decor.
The staff were polite, friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Their English was certainly better than my Icelandic so communication was not a problem.
Breakfast is a continental affair with a mixture of cereals, meats and cheeses and some fantastic warm homemade bread. One speciality was the bread cooked in the geothermal spring in the garden.
We had packed lunches prepared with bread, fruit and other items from breakfast as we were out bird watching.
Main courses were Icelandic fish and lamb with a selection of very well prepared vegetables. The food we had would have put a lot of very good restaurants to shame, it was truly delicious.
The accommodation is situated in a small village on a residential, street very quiet with nice gardens.
There is a hot tub and steam room free to guests, I didn't partake as it was a tad hot for my liking but those who did, said it was fantastic!
Set in the South West of Iceland 40km from the capital it is in an ideal spot for the tourist attractions. A car is a must and as with most things in Iceland in the winter months, the weather rules what can be done on a daily basis.
This was my first trip to Iceland and with such a nice guest house to come back to of an evening it made the trip even more enjoyable for me. I have no qualms in recommending this guest house to anyone visiting the South West area of Iceland.

First off, the town. hveragerði is a great base for the golden circle, blue lagoon, and south west coast of Iceland. The town itself is quaint, easy to get around by foot, and has a couple of take away and restaurants. There is a Bonus supermarket and N1 gas station at the main intersection of the ring road and the town.
The guesthouse is fantastic! The apartment rooms are spacious, clean, with plenty of room to lounge around when its pouring rain... The wifi is consistent, the kitchenette is handy, and parking is on site.
There is a hot tub as well as a steam hut/sauna heated by a geothermal vent the town if famous for. The breakfast is standard continental, but has some home made geothermal bread which is a nice touch.
One of the highlights is a trailhead 5km northwest of town - there is a 2 hour hike up through the mountains to the Reykjadalur hot spring stream; a highlight of a trip to Iceland.

We stayed here for four nights and it was a perfect base for our group. The hotel is clean and simple with a lovely hot tub at the end of a long day In the cold! We ate simple home cooked food which was delicious. The owners are friendly and keen to give good service. I would really recommend this guest house.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights on our brief stopover in Iceland. We arrived from the U.S. on an early morning flight and decided to head to the guesthouse to see if the owner could help us with our sightseeing plans until check in at 3pm. She informed us our apartment was ready and let us have the keys at 9am! She said she understood how jet lagged we must be and to please have a good nap. That was perfect and so thoughtful! We rented apartment A. It was cozy with a small kitchen and living room. The wifi worked well and the heat also. The bed was a comfortable queen size. The town of Hveragerdi is really cute and very walkable. We walked a route to take us by steam vents and the waterfall in the center of town. The guesthouse has a nice selection of town maps we didn't see anywhere else. The owner also has a trip idea book in each room with itineraries and maps you can take with you. This was very helpful. Also the guesthouse has a very roomy hot tub where you can soak under the stars. We had a great experience staying here and would highly recommend it!

i stayed at the frumskogar guesthouse for one nnight during my weeklong tril to iceland. i had rented a car and had done the golden circle with plans to continue to south iceland, so i didn't want to go all the way back to reykjavik. gotta say, i was a little annoyed with myself for booking a place in hveragerdi because i had to backtrack on the ring road a bit to go here. however, i am really glad that i came here after all!
hveragerdi is a tiny little town and there are more expensive places to stay. this guesthouse is on a side street but it takes just a few minutes to walk to the main road. it is easy to find, very quiet and nice. i had booked a single room and it was fairly spacious with a sink. the shared bathrooms (2 of them, 1 with toilet only, the other with toilet and shower) weren't ever full. the shower is amazing, super hot water (if you want) and great water pressure. the room was really comfortable and had a tv that i didn't use.
breakfast is not included but is well worth the extra 1000ikr. coffee, juice, granola, yogurt, fruit, meats, smoked salmon, tomatoes, etc. right above the food table is a fantastic display of photos describing how the guesthouse came to exist - this house has been in the family since 1954 and has been operating as a guesthouse since 1983. one of the original owner's sons came back to renovate it and runs it now. great story!
so, if hveragerdi is anywhere close to your route, definitely consider staying here. it is really comfortable, the breakfast is great, and it is extremely good value -- i would have definitely been happy to pay more.

After a hike up to the warm river in Reykjadalur and a good evening meal, a good night’s sleep is wonderful. Comfortable beds and cozy duvets. Ahhh! We stayed in the upstairs room that shares1-1/2 baths. Not exactly a plus, but there weren’t too many long waits. We didn’t order the buffet breakfast, but were happy that coffee and tea were free.
The hosts were very friendly. We would definitely come back to Frumskogar and recommend the guesthouse to our family and friends.

This small guesthouse was conveniently located in a small residential neighborhood. We had unit "F", which was spacious and comfortable. The bed and bedding (double duvets) were of high quality and there was ample room to sit around. There was also a compact area to cook, including a hot pot and coffee pot and included coffee and tea. The kitchen also had a modicum of plates, cups and utensils and a mini-frig, so if you wanted to avoid the super high cost of eating out and just go and grab some food at the local supermarket, this place would be set up just right for you.
But the bathroom had a shower in which the only separation of the shower from the toilet and sink was a curtain. So even if you closed yourself into the shower with this curtain, a lot of water still leaked under the curtain and into the rest of the bathroom. And this is surely the reason that they included a long-handled squeegee so that you could quickly direct all of this "escaped" water back to the shower drain. It all worked out, but this was certainly different from the truly "enclosed" showers that I'm used to back in the USA. (Note: we encountered a similar shower setup in 3 other places we stayed in Iceland, so this must be the norm).
Bottom line: I'd certainly go back to this place.
