Detailed Reviews
We travelled as a family of three ( one adult, two kids) in the summer holidays. So much is great about this hotel but the devil is in the detail and in many cases this falls short.
Firstly the rooms are fantastic, stylish spacious and with good, comfy beds. A balcony to enjoy the sunshine and to dry wet swimsuits on was an added bonus.
Powerful shower and lots of normal and usb sockets in the room.
Cleaning was poor however; the toilet was never cleaned in our 4 day stay (I cleaned it myself), I had to ask after two days for the floor to be vacuumed as it was dirty with food crumbs and hair and the tea and coffee supplies were very limited (only one fruit tea bag and coffee on arrival).
Also disappointing was the large flat screen TV in the room which only showed a handful of terrestrial channels - it was not a smart TV so no films to watch of an evening. This really is an expected service nowadays so very surprised about this.
The pool is great and the two hot tubs very relaxing. Families with kids please note the large slide featured in many pictures of the hotel is not open for use.
Food in the Hver restaurant is fantastic, with a great childrens menu and a selection of creative, superbly cooked food on offer. The fish and seafood is particularly good.
Breakfast is OK, with a good selection of continental food but less so on the cooked side of things.
Staff were very variable, ranging from downright rude to very helpful and despite there being a high ratio of staff to guests in the restaurant in the evenings, it was very difficult to get service; the basic skills of scanning a room when on duty seemed to be lacking.
There is a games room which the children loved with a good selection: pool, air hockey, table football and ping pong.
Overall a pleasant stay but could definitely do with pulling their socks up in a few key areas. I didn't feel like a valued guest at any point during our stay, which for £250 per night (we were charged extra for a put up bed on arrival), felt a bit rich!

The superior room is pretty new with a really nice interior and very comfortable beds. You will also find a safe and an empty refrigerator. Housekeeping will make the bed and bathroom on the second day but will not clean up the room or replace the used coffee portions.
The breakfast room seems to be made for tourbus guests and does not live up to 4 stars at all. What a contrast to the superior rooms. Perhaps guests of superior rooms should have a more decent breakfast in the Hver restaurant. The Hver restaurant is excellent and highly recommended for dinner.
The entire pool area incl. the hot tubs, the showers and changing rooms need a major overhaul.

We stopped at Hotel Ork for 3 nights in Feb 22 with friends after travelling from the UK. We found the hotel clean, generally comfortable (a tiny bit on the warm side in bedrooms for our liking, but nothing that ruined our stay and we did have an opening window) & well equipped (towels, fridge, hair dryer, TV with British channels etc). The breakfast was great with sausages, scrambled egg, beans, toast, fruit & pastries to choose from. The breakfast room on the top floor was superb with great views across the snow covered countryside & mountains behind. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. After being snowed in one day we made good use the games room and heated outdoor pools. We had a great meal in the restaurant & made good use of the bar each night(especially happy hour)! The hotel is well placed, being right off route 1, for driving the Golden Circle, along with good access to Reykjavik and the amazing Skogafoss (waterfall). Locally you can walk to a Bonus supermarket (reasonably priced), a cafe, and a couple of local restaurants (the pizza place/brewery was great). If returning to Iceland we would absolutely stay here again, thank you!

Horrible and Scary experience ! We were woken up by a stranger a 3.50am breaking into our room and standing in front of our bed while we were asleep !! The room was properly locked and cannot be opened unless you have the card key! We had to barricade the room with a sofa for the rest of the night (sleepless). Called immediatly reception to warn them of this stranger breaking into rooms and they did not bother doing anything ("we will have maintenance looking at the door lock it in the morning"), not even checking the logs of entrances into that room, of the security cameras, and why this is even possible (why give a stranger an access card that can open our room?) . Either way complete lack of response from the hotel, do not care at all about security (I told them where the stranger ran out and the next room he entered into, they said they eventually "listened to this door but there was no response so they walked away..").
If you intend to stay at this hotel, make sure you BARRICADE the room door with heavy sofa and desk, and that you keep q DEFENSIVE object to defend yourself close to your bed, for your own protection.
Needless to say this was a completely sleepless night and my partner is still very shaken by the experience. Thankfully the stranger was unarmed and we were able to kick him out of the room.
I am still wondering if the most shocking was being woken up by a stranger standing in front of our bed, or the complete lack of professionalism of the hotel.

We stayed here in November for two nights and it was amazing. The quiet location away from the main city was just right for us and the local area was everything plus more. It had snowed when we arrived and we were there for the lighting of the village Christmas tree. It was something out of a film!!
Back at the hotel, the room was clean, large and warm. The view out of the window was breathtaking and I didn't want to leave.
Breakfast was never busy and there was a large selection, all tasted great. We had dinner one evening in the restaurant and although the menu was limited it was filling and the wine was tasty.
The location of the hotel meant we had access to the main road and access to the many attractions we wanted to see, although whoch out for the snow!!
What did make our stay was the security guard, he was amazing and we learnt so much about the culture and way of life in Iceland from him when we woke at 3am and decided to go for a walk both nights, in an attempt to see the Northern lights. Because of the snow this didn't happen but this only means we have to return!!
A fantastic hotel and I can't wait to return.

Very nice hotel with a lovely intimate restaurant. We were part of a small tour group & they had a separate area where they have the breakfast buffet that they used for dinner for larger tour group. The room was not huge - not as big as other hotels we stayed in Iceland but comfy all the same.

We went there with 3 young children. We bought an upgrade so we stayed at the newer part of the hotel and had both breakfast and a 3 course dinner included. Everything exceeded expectation; friendly staff, good food, clean room. The pool slide was a little dodgy though, the stairs are so steep for little slippery legs.

My room was perfect. Good bed, good pillows, nice size and clean. The facility was lovely.
We had hoped to do some laundry but the manager would not allow access to their washers and dryers. I have to say, the manager was on the grumpy side. He fussed at guests because they couldn’t figure out the room keys (you insert the key, open the door, and then take the key out!).

We had modest expectations for the Hotel Ork. We booked it as a stopping point between Vik and the Reykanes Peninsula, and for its proximity to the Reykjadular Valley. All of the hotels in the area had mixed reviews, so we gambled on the Ork because of the swimming pool for the kids. Fortunately, our expectations were exceeded. We booked two superior rooms and found them clean, stylish, very comfortable, and very quiet. The superior rooms are in a quiet wing removed from the noise of the pool, rec room, and restaurant. It was worth the extra money to get good sleep and a fully updated accommodation.
The kids enjoyed the pool, although the waterslides were broken, which was a disappointment. The included breakfast buffet was excellent. Parking is free and convenient.

This has the feel of a big solid 1960’s hotel built by an Eastern bloc nation. When we arrived we were told by the friendly front desk that there were several sports teams staying here and they might be running around and making noise until odd hours. We were told we were moved off the team floors for no additional charge but to move to the new wing with very quiet rooms would cost us extra.
Indeed talking, milling and idling did happen but the Icelandic teams, seemingly a young girls team and an unrelated boys team were more respectful than similar US teens. Nevertheless there was a good deal of door banging, loud talking, knocking on doors at 1am, and noise through the walls. In addition some kids congregated in the midnight sun outside the front entrance which was right below our window.
So.....check to see if this giant hotel is booked with loud kids before settling in, and possibly fork over the extra money for a room in the quiet modern wing.

This is actually the first stop on a Reykjavik: Golden Circle Full-Day Tour with Kerid Crater that departs from Reykjavik.
The tour company is very accommodating. If you tell them you will join the tour in Hveragerdi it would probably be all right.
This hotel is great because there are several restaurants, a supermarket, and benzine station around the corner.
You'll need a car to drive to some of the other attractions, e.g. volcano, Blue Lagoon.
But the hotel has it's own hot spring spa, so if you stay there you won't need to go to the Blue Lagoon.
Yes, they do as well as shampoo & conditioner.
I had booked the tour from Reykjavik. Hotel Ork was part of the package. Why don’t you email them and ask. I’m sure you can take a tour from there. We stayed overnight and the tour company picked us up there. This way we saved time and didn’t have to go back to Reykjavik.
