Detailed Reviews
The cabin we stayed in was superb, very clean and spotless, modern and well designed. Very Warm and cosy with underfloor heating. Everything we needed for cooking a meal, including a dishwasher for cleaning up!
There is a hot tub and sauna just a few steps away which guests can use. The hosts are very friendly and nothing was to much trouble.
Definitely recommend and I would love to stay again.

We stayed at the backyard village for a few nights in October.
The cottage had everything that we needed. Was nice and cosy and a great place to unwind at the end of the full days exploring the wonders of Iceland.
The owners were there to welcome us and on hand if we needed anything.
Would definately recommend and wouldn't hesitate in booking when we head back.
We are so glad we chose Iceland, chose Hveragerdi and chose the Backyard Village.
Thanks for sharing your yard!

Went to Iceland with my teenage daughter. This this was the best place we stayed on our nine-day trip. The cabin was clean and very comfortable, with a great little kitchen and living area. We loved the wood-fired sauna and the hot tub. It is an amazing place to stay and less expensive than a hotel.
Highly recommended.

To stay at the backyard village was just great. We very much enjoyed the well equipped blue cabin, the friendly host family and the enjoyable hot-tube. They even placed some toys in our cabin which exicted ouf small daughter a lot. Thanks!

My wife and I stayed at the turquoise cabin for 5 nights. Our suitcase with all our hiking gear didn't make it to Iceland for several days after we arrived. The hosts politely lent us gear so we were able to do our planned hikes; going above and beyond like that is a reflection of their kind souls. As far the cabin goes everything is brand new and very clean. The location is perfect for exploring both the South as well as the Golden Circle. There is a nearby supermarket, bakery, pizzeria, post office, restaurants, etc. all within walking distance. We had Wi-Fi, TV with Netflix, YouTube, steam room, sauna, washer, dryer, heated floors, heated towel warmer, rain shower, kitchen, bathrobes, and many more amenities which we found to be helpful. The next time I'm in Iceland I'll be staying here again.

The comments about Matti and Eva's hospitality are all true! We got excellent advice on how to best use our time. These are great little cottages, perfect for families. Our daughter still talks about her "blue house" in Iceland. The cottages are on a quiet residential street and very easy to get to. Fully equipped with kitchens, living area, and bunk beds. There is a washer and dryer next to the sauna. Perfect central location on the southern end of the golden circle route - from Reykjavik, travel to Thingvellir, Geysir, Gulfoss and Kerid Crater, and spend the night here. The town is small and walkable, with nice places to eat, a nice pool, and hiking to the warm river.

Me and my sister spent a week in Iceland, travelling between places staying in a mix of hostels and hotels. Our night at the Backyard Village was by far our favourite place yet. In fact I think it might be the best place I’ve ever stayed.
The cottage was absolutely gorgeous with a lovely kitchen, a cozy living room complete with blankets and and a stunning shower. Not to mention the hot tub and sauna with beautiful mountain views.
We wish we could have stayed longer, it was so wonderful, our hosts Eva and Marteinn were lovely and it just had such a relaxing vibe after trekking through the mountains earlier that day.
If you’re travelling in Iceland and want to have a day or two to recoup, I couldn’t recommend Backyard Village more!

Matti´s and Guðrún Eva´s cottages` are not only located in one of the world's most astonishing places but also ran by two of the kindest human beings on the planet. The amount of love and effort given to the place is hard to miss and it all comes at very reasonable price. Comfortable bed's, clean, quality facilities and a view that will make you fall in love with this place at all times and every time you wake up. And be sure not miss the local swimming pool. This is one of my favorite trips ever!!!

+1
Our stay at Backyard Village as lovely. The little cabin was cosy and clean, with all basic amenities - a great shower, good coffee and a nice bed. We enjoyed staying in the warmth, spending a long while in the sauna and hot tub looking at the stars. Eco-friendly and very homey in all regard, plus the hosts are super helpful, giving recommendations and all sorts of assistance. Would have loved to stay longer!

Everything was perfect. We stayed in the turquoise cabin and loved it.
The cabin was so gorgeous and cosy and having the hot tub and sauna felt so luxurious. Taking coffee on the veranda in the morning light was a wonderful start to the day. We enjoyed our stay here very much.
Matti, Eva and their family were charming and kind hosts, and provided lots of recommendations.
We'll definitely return.
