After reading allod the positive reviews we were perhaps expecting a little more. The hotel must have been really good in its heyday, but is now showing signs of wear. The rooms could do with a makeover, or even just a touch of paint. The cork trim is peeling off, and the bedside tables are the worst I have seen - the top slides off if anything is placed on it! The staff seem disinterested, one stood outside smoking while he watched us unpack our vehicle. We ordered three beers in the bar, and the barman apologized for not having any beer glasses! The main exercise machine in the gym was out of order. The only redeeming factor was the breakfast, a superb spread with real, fresh orange juice. Overall it is priced well, but you get what you pay for.

Pleasant hotel. Relaxing ambience. Really comfortable room. Great views from the balcony / veranda over the surrounding hotel. Friendly staff. Good pools (indoors & outdoors).

We really enjoyed ourselves but the hotel has the potential to be much better if they get the details right e.g. the television was far too small for the size of room; breakfast felt a bit like a 3* B&B rather than a 4* hotel; no info in the room about things like facilities; no room service.

That being said, our room had a fantastic bath that looked out over the hills - I could have stayed in it all day!

So I’ll put to the back of my thoughts all of the burned trees… this is not the hotels fault.
August… No chef , restaurant not open in the evening in a **** Hotel . Not acceptable.
Pool bar not open during the day again , somethings not quite right.
Lack of attention to detail, broken pool tiles , decking broken in spa, dead plant in pots .
Questions need asking !

Positive: The view from the room and the silence you could hear when in the balcony. And the breakfast was also very decent, with a nice view from the restaurant. The room and sheets were very clean.

Negative: At the check-in I found the male receptionist not that welcoming. Please check the pictures to visualize my critics here.. In the room, the headboard was made out of cork, but it was all coming off. There were two lamps coming from the ceiling, one of them was full of knots, clearly the wire was bigger than it should be, so they just improvised.. Also on them lamps, at night, once we turned both of them on and the TV the electricity in the room clashed leaving us in the dark.. The glass on the balcony had a massive crack while the chairs were full of rust. In the toilet there were electricity wires coming out, and out of the 4 lamps above the mirror, only 2 were working, and the toilet flush was broken. It's a 4 star hotel, but the amenities were really poor (1 shampoo, 1 conditioner, 2 shower gel and 1 soap) plus the "glasses" to wash the mouth were plastic cups...
Moving on to the spa, really tiny!! There's only two pool chairs, once we got to 6 people inside the spa we left, as it felt way too crowded. The water temperature in the pool was room temperature, so obviously not warm, and good luck getting the jaccuzi to work with its freezing cold water, that we were told by the receptionist it's only heated in the morning (what a joke) . The sauna was so small, that my boyfriend with his 190cm had to lean over to fit and had to stand because everything was just so small (we didn't even check the steam room). We got some sort of sale at the time, because we checked later and the prices were 100+ for a room - totally not worth it!!

We had booked one of the two suites in the hotel for four nights (highest available category). Without any notification we had to find out on our own that the heating-system wasn’t working on the entire floor.

In addition, we were offered to have dinner at the hotel witch we made a reservation for. What a mysterious dinner we ever had. Nothing was cooked properly. Fish & prawns were overcooked, soup was totally horrible.

So we were already very disappointed within the first few hours and it didn’t become any better. The service was friendly but that all. We asked to speak to the hotel management which was never available and we were told that the manager doesn’t even speak good English.

The only thing was good that MASSAGE from INDIAN gentleman. He was simply superb.

The hotel is four years old but is seems they have a huge problem with their management and their maintenance. water in several walls at the edge of mildew, rusty chairs on the balcony, brown dirt running down several of the white outside walls, to just mention a few points, are just not what I personally expect from a four-star hotel

I should have read the reviews on here before booking this hotel!!! Extremely poorly managed.

This 4 star hotel didn't have any F&B dept. No F&B manager. Frozen breakfast, no bar service, no snack service available in the hotel plus on the top cheap crap dinner with such high price.

plus the man(best therapist in the town) who was advertised in hotel promo for massage was available, instead of that a lady was there but without any genuine massage offered.

From the moment we arrived, we had problems. This hotel is funded with EU money and will definitely write to the Tourism of Portugal to look into this hotel.

Nobody cares here, we won’t be back!!! Such a shame,

A lovely modern hotel with a beautiful outlook ( one must ignore recent bushfires) with large rooms overlooking the pool.
Breakfast was excellent and included seeds and nuts for cereal.
We ate dinner in the restaurant ( pre arranged) and had an excellent meal

I have just returned from a 5 day stay at Enigma and I just wanted to write a review about how lovely it was. We booked through Voyage Prive and chose the half-board option. We stayed for 5 nights in a double "garden view" room and including flights from Birmingham it was £260pp.

Firstly the hotel was clean, modern and very impressive looking. It can be found off the main road on a small track. It would have been a little difficult to find but we hired a car with sat nav. (Car hire is ESSENTIAL in this region....). We found the staff welcoming, and helpful. Luckily for us, the reception spoke excellent English which we didn't expect but were very grateful for. We particularly thought the hotel manager was great- so knowledgeable and kind.

Our room had a lovely bathroom with a great shower, hot water. It was spotlessly clean. The spa facilities included: steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and small heated indoor pool. It was quiet and we largely had these spaces to ourselves. My partner also used the gym facilities which were basic but adequate. They don't provide slippers, so make sure you bring something along to wear on your feet. Robes are provided, and swimming caps are required and cost 5 euros to buy.

We were really impressed by the food at this hotel. Every night a three course meal, bread, olives and wine was included. The food was usually a choice of two dishes: meat or fish including local dishes. I think had I been vegan or vegetarian that might have been difficult. We are not fussy eaters and the food was restaurant quality, extremely tasty and varied. Head and shoulders above any other hotel food I have tried over the years and from a budget point of view, excellent value. The waitress who served us each night was very polite and helpful and didn't laugh at our terrible terrible portuguese (thank you!)

The hotel is situated in the country side which we loved. It was blissfully quiet and the local scenery is amazing, but I think car hire is essential. Some places you should try are:

Arrafina beach (cliff top views are incredible and there is a fab restaurant bar at the top of the cliff called O Paolo)
Azhena do mar (there is a bar which charged 0.80euros for a beer and has amazing sea views. Lots of cats at the bar too! Definitely worth a visit one afternoon)
Sagres (Again, sensational views, an old fort to look around and incredible scenary)
Odeceixe beach (riverside and ocean beach all in one, soft white sand)

Overall this is a wonderful Hotel and a great, relaxing holiday destination!

Travelled to Faro ( p.s. do visit Praia De Faro) and I took the train (4 euros) to Santa Clara Saboia. Walked to hotel 25km (but suggest hiring a bike in Faro and taking it on the train) . The Hotel is on the long distance Historical Way the walking cycling route in Portugal and what a fabulous way to see the country. You must make a visit to this hotel, which features a modern design, superb facilities and value. Staff were excellent and they are developing a lovely nature reserve that would benefit having a sculpture trail may I add ( I'm a sculptor) ! Breakfast and meals were splendid and a really nice Spa. Very quiet and relaxing. Will definitely return. Service, cleanliness and rooms 5 star.great value out of season. A luxury hotel.

You can chose lisbon airport or faro air port, but a taxi is a little too expensive, maybe u ou should rent a car
