We stayed in room 1, and the location was amazing - magnificent views and a beautiful room (though we thought the decoration was a little 'tired' and could do with a re-paint). We were warmly welcomed by the very attentive staff and showed to our...More
The Birkenhead House is an amazing Home/hotel with fantastic views. We were there for two wonderful nights during our South Africa Trip. The staff was top notch and very accommodating. Food and presentation was wonderful! I would return!
After starting our South Africa holiday at The Silo (see separate review), we were wondering how Birkenhead House would compare. The views are spectacular, but what makes this hotel special is the personal touch -- the staff knew our names and all stood to wave...More

We left a tip for the maid in each room we occupied over a 3 night stay and we tipped the drivers who took us Shark diving etc and when collected from Hermanus. We didn't tip general staff,I have never tipped hotel staff in the past only cleaner and porters,I'm now feeling quilty and wondered if we should have, but it's not something we do in the UK.The only hotel staff we tipped were at the Safari lodge we stayed at as there lifestyle was slightly different to those at the Birkenhead or the hotel in Cape Town. The Birkenhead is wonderful, enjoy!
