My wife and I just returned from a fabulous four night stay at this wonderful lodge. Upon arrival at Hoedspruit Airport we were met by Priscilla who was to our ranger for the length of our stay. She was very courteous and professional and made us feel at home right away. Our drive to the lodge took about half and hour during which time we saw numerous wildlife.

Once at the lodge we were met with a cool towel and a drink and shown to our room which consisted of a large bedroom and a separate large bath. We were told that our first drive would be at 4:30pm and to meet at the bar for high tea which consisted of appetizers and any type of drink you would care for.

After tea we went out for our first drive along with our tracker, Kenneth which was very memorable as we spotted two male lions and a female with her pride which consisted of about 8 cubs. We also were able to see a leopard guarding its kill in a tree. That evening we also saw various giraffe, zebra, impala, kudu, warthogs, buffalo, nyala and waterbuck. We stopped while in the bush and Pricilla and Kenneth set up a table and the offered us a drink and various snacks. We returned that night and they had a boma ( barbeque) under the stars during which time the staff performed traditional African songs and dances. The food provided was very good and plentiful.

The next morning we received a wake up call at 5:00am and we met in the dinning area where coffee, tea, fruit and a light breakfast was provided. At 6:00am we went out again on safari. That morning we were fortunate again to have another leopard walk out of the bush in front of our vehicle. We again saw lions, giraffes, dazzle of zebras, Rhino, elephants, water buffalo, African buffalo along with many of the animals listed above and then some so in the first two drives we had seen the BIG FIVE. Over the course of our remaining time we had the opportunity to see Hippos, crocodiles, Jackals, mongoose and many of the other animals listed above.

I must say that our ranger, Priscilla and our tracker were great and we were thankful that we had such compassionate professionals as they got us up close to the animals but respected their place. They met and exceeded our expectations.

I would be remiss if I did not mention our waitress, Precious who could never do enough for us and was concerned that we could not eat at all the meals provided as it was just too much. The bartender, Respect and his waiter friend, Sam were great and we enjoyed speaking with them. All of the staff we encountered were very nice.

Also of note one of the days we were there was my wife birthday and they surprised her with a cake and also performed a song ands dance routine in her honor and ended with them all singing happy birthday to my wife which made her day very special.

In closing I would recommend Kapama to anyone as it is truly a great experience.

Kapama SC is a lovely base for game drives on the eastern cape. Its main gate is conveniently located just across from Hoedspruit Airport. A ranger met us at the airport and whisked us to KSC (25 minute drive in a safari jeep). Game drives occur at 630 am and again at 4 pm. Snacks, blankets and hot water bottles were much appreciated. Our day drives were much more successful with regard to wildlife, and our tracker and ranger were top notch. The food is EXCELLENT. They took care of me so well, making items that fit my vegetarian lifestyle. Honestly with pre morning drive snacks, morning coffee, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, evening drive drinks and snacks and dinner, you are never hungry! My husband and I stayed in villa 3, which was lovely. The mini bar was stocked, and the modern room was clean and well designed. I always appreciate chairs to relax on rather than only having a bed or desk chair for sitting. Because it was cold, we did not utilize the plunge pool, but it looked inviting. I enjoyed the impala and wart hog visitors, and the staff were ALL amazing. I DO recommend, but note these few issues: Kapama is a private reserve, so the area and animals are fenced, albeit in a vast area. That felt a little bit like cheating, and I did not realize this as my travel agent booked it. The villa's shower is all glass and windows without a door/curtain on the outside or inside. While probably only visible to wildlife, it made me uncomfortable. The shower floor is very slick, without any sort of mat. The room has one door that separates the bed/sitting area from half of the bathroom, but then the same wall is open and without door/partition on the other end, making most of the bathroom exposed and, frankly, cold. Finally, there is a lot of down time in the afternoon with nothing to do between 11 am and 3 pm. In warm weather with the pool or with kids, this might be a bonus, but as two adults who like to "do" during a holiday, we got bored. Neither of us enjoy a spa and the villas do not have tv/movies at all. There was too much time unfilled. While we did take advantage of a visit to the elephant sanctuary at additiinal cost, I wish they had offered some activities during that time such as a cooking class, wine tasting or even a bush walk.

I cannot recommend this place enough. Excellent staff , excellent food, excellent game viewing.

If visiting try and pre-book Jabu and his tracker Lot! They are an incredible duo who are not only friendly but hyper knowledgeable and get just as excited as you get when something cool has been seen! From seeing the big 5 (leopard multiple times too) we got to see an array of other animals one does not normally see from civets, honey badgers, bush babies, Veroux owls, jackal, genet amongst a host of the staples such giraffe, zebra, impala, hippo etc.. On multiple game drives we attempted to spot hyena which we didn’t but the duo always remained upbeat and never gave up as we continued with the search. They were equally as patient as we were waiting for a female giraffe to give birth to a new baby and sat watching her for an hour and were running well over our 3 hour game drive. I cannot state enough to Kapama management what gem these two are! They are a big asset!

Definitely once arriving book a bush walk where you move from becoming a spectator in a vehicle to a participant in the bush! The experience was an easy walk through the bush with our ranger Jabu and a more than capable and super knowledgeable walking guide, Chris accompanied us. We were safe, we got to exercise and we got to learn more about the reserve, it’s plants and tracking animals!

The food was on top form and of good quality. The service was friendly. I would just say that management could have a (very) gentle word with the servers to maybe not rush meal services as much but other than that extremely minor issue the food and service was flawless.

The room itself was clean, comfortable and world class. The cleaning staff come in and remake beds after your afternoon nap and do a classic turndown service and refold towels etc. which was a nice touch.

I will definitely be making my way back here as soon as possible for this perfect bush getaway.

Your front office staff where booked out, should be more professional. The lady who cleaned room 113, should undergo a professional training how to be humble and friendly with people she never met. She should be properly supervised on how to clean an apartment. Please allow RSA citizens a discounted price as you now rely on them to visit KAPAMA due to the COVID international restrictions. We are always here for you and our money is just as good, however we cannot afford what Europe and America can. It is understood that you accommodate them first, we will have the left overs, but with an affordable price. If possible, please?

Loved our visit to Kapama. Beautiful grounds.......very quiet with impalas, monkeys and even saw a wart hog on the grounds. Food was delicious and also visually appealing. Stayed at Southern Camp and rooms were very clean with rustic type decor, large bathroom with modern deep soaking tub, separate glass enclosed shower and toilet closet. Game Drives were really enjoyable both, morning and evening and knowledgeable guide/tracker....saw Big 5! All staff were extremely accommodating and welcoming. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

From the time you reach Kapama southern camp to the time you leave you feel most welcome. Quick check in the lodge is nicely spread out and well appointed. The grounds well kept and the rooms nicely decorated. The game rangers are well educated and all the staff are well trained and friendly, they can sing well too. We throughly enjoyed our stay at Kapama. The food well presented and good quality with your dietary needs known to the staff they was such a pleasant experience. The chef was very concerned that our needs were met. Well worth every bit of money spent.

We (a family with two kids) spent two days at Kapama over Christmas and had our first safari experience.

The lodge is top-notch and the luxury family villa was absolutely fantastic - beautiful, very spacious and with a private pool. Our ranger was very helpful and we had the safari car just for ourselves during the whole stay with four safaris.

One area of clear improvement is special diets. My wife does not eat meat, which we had informed about already when making the reservation. The kitchen staff was however not able to properly take this into account and the meal alternatives without meat were pretty poor considering the price of the lodge and the overall standard. The restaurant staff was in general below the level of the other staff - with a little tired attitude.

The Kapama Southern camp was an extension tour offering from Odyssey. We had wanted more safari experiences and added this to our trip. WE ARE SO GLAD we did, the experience has been great. The 3 night stay included 6 safari, 3 early morning and 3 late afternoon. The ranger and tracker were very competent, knowledgeable and eased everyone’s concerns for safety. Many times we were very close to the wild animals. We saw lions, elephants, a leopard, impalas, eagles, vultures, water buffaloes, and so many more. We learned so much. The food service was excellent, the food quality was varied, seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The rooms were clean and cool. We used the spa massage services and wow it was so nice. It was a long way for us to travel here, but most definitely worth.

This is a conveniently located property in the Kapama game reserve, being just minutes from Eastgate airport in Hoedspruit. Kapama is also one of the largest reserves in the country. These Lodges tend to range from expensive to incredibly expensive. Kapama Southern Camp is mid range, but was everything we needed and wanted and more. The buildings are all in contemporary traditional style, amid virgin bush, but protected by electric fences all around, so that no dangerous animals can enter the compound, and is quite important for a sense of security, especially when we had young children with us.

Our family suite was magnificent! Absolutely enormous bedrooms with expansive bathrooms inclusive of a bath, indoor and outdoor showers. Considering that in between game drives there isn't much to do, having such a comfortable suite to spend much of the day in was fantastic. There was a private pool as well, which in the summer would have been delightful. However, in the spring, the water was still too cold for us to use it. This was a shame, because for the standard of this property, one would have expected that the trouble could be taken for the pool to be heated in the colder months.

The food on offer was terrific, with the freshest salads and fruits, home baked breads and pastries, main courses done perfectly and as much as we could eat. The drinks selection was very wide, with a very good selection of spirits and local wines included, and some outstanding wines for an additional charge. But what was included was more than adequate. The meals at the Boma were festive and atmospheric, with local specialties on offer. It was also the only times when our ranger/guide could join us for meals and we got to know him better.

Game viewing here is unlike game viewing in the vast plains of Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe or Namibia, where herds of animals like Zebra and Wilderbeest roam through. Here it is viewing animals through the bush, individuals or in small groups, sometimes at very close quarters. We managed to see 4 out of the "Big 5", missing out only the Leopard, which was not inclined to emerge at the start of the wet season. But we saw plenty of animals with the help of our ranger Joseph and keen-eyed spotter Reshine. Overall, this was a fantastic nights' stay and we would happily recommend this Lodge.

Our experience at Kapama Southern Camp was incredible! Gazide our ranger was an incredible host on our game drives. He and our awesome spotter made every game drive a great experience! Cosmo was the first person we met upon arrival and he made us feel at home immediately! Mili took great care of us during all of our meals and she also has an amazing voice! We are all vegetarians and the head chef took time every day to check to see what we would like to eat. All the meals were made just for us and to our liking!!

This is our second time within 2 years in a Kapama property and both Karula and Southern Camp are incredible. Would recommend to anyone to go visit and most certainly we will be back again!
